Hey everyone even though this is not my first time making a mock draft it is the first time I am posting one here. Last year I correctly picked Leon Hall, however it went a bit downhill from there (I believe Indy got 2 of my second day picks for us). Anyway tell me what you all think so far.
R1: Sedrick Ellis DT USC - We're not gonna get Dorsey unless by some miracle of the gods and I don't think McFadden will be here for this pick, if he is jump all over that. Anyway I'd like to go with a DE here but I think that anyone here would be a bit of a reach.
R2: Derrick Harvey DE FL- Here is my DE pick, I'm not sure if this is too much of a reach or not, but if it is, let's just say this is a trade-up from trading Deltha (which I believe we will do I'm not sure about his value though).
R3: J Lehman LB Illinois- Yes I understand that I may be taking him a bit high, but I love this guys drive and he was able to hold his own against USC. Unfortunately he's one of those players that may fall or rise unexpectedly so I'm just going to be safe and pick him here.
R3b: Jacob Tamme TE UK- This is the compensatory pick for Steinbach, I'm not sure how many we'll get since the entire league only gets 32 so I'm just going to be conservative and assume we get 2 picks this one and another in the seventh. Anyway we have needed a TE for so long and with the way our defense is hurting I don't think we'll go for the "top prospects" but Tamme just might fly under the radar for most teams, and I'll be glad to take him here.
R4: Wesley Woodyard LB UK- What? Two Kentucky players back to back? I know, I know madness right? Well I chose him because Woodyard is a great prospect that can fill in the LB/SS "tweener" roll and we know how much Marvin loves tweeners. Besides a player like him I think can dominate on special teams and we all know the guy can tackle.
R5: Haruki Nakamura S Cincinnati- No surprisingly this is blatant homerism on my behalf. I truly believe that Nakamura could be the Bengal's version of Troy Polamalu, this guy flies all over the field and seems to always be around the ball. Plus I think he can be an Adrian Wilson style of safety that can not only get a pick but FORCE a fumble.
R6: Jordon Dizon LB Colorado- This guy is a bit undersized but I don't expect much from him in our later picks, basically he's here to take the reigns from Caleb Miller in my opinion. I hope he can prove me wrong but this will help shore our LB corps and provide some depth.
R7: Adam Spieker C Mizzou- Hey if the guy can protect Heisman Candidate Chase Daniel then why not Carson Palmer, I don't think he'll be as touted a prospect because of Mizzou's surprising fall from grace versus Oklahoma, and this could help us out.
R7b: Kerry Brown OG Appalachian State- Okay you got me I couldn't think of anyone to take, so I just picked a random guard from a small time school. However this "small time school" is coming off of it's 3rd straight 1-AA Championship and a strong season started with a defeat of perennial powerhouse Michigan. I envision a player like him riding the practice squad pine but who knows, maybe there will be room for him on this team.
I also envision a few changes occuring in Cincinnati to help build this team, mostly by subtraction. I see us losing Deltha, Madieu, Justin Smith, Thornton, Chris Perry AND Rudi. To replace this talent with not only the draft I see us signing 3 free agents who I would place as Terrell Suggs (He just lost his HC and DC and is on an aging defense with one of the worst offenses in the league, if we can convince him he's our "missing piece" he'd be a great player and could even allow us to switch to a 3-4 if we so choose), also to add some experience to the secondary, I'd like to add either David Macklin or Hank Poteat to our Cornerbacks, and finally to try and sign Mewelde Moore from Minnesota as one of our running backs to provide solid depth to one of our most underachieving units.
Well guys does this look like a good offseason?

I like it alot I do have a problem with drafting 3 Lb's though I just do not see the need since we should have plenty depending who gets resigned. I also see us drafting a WR or CB to be a return specialist hopefully wiht a 7th round pick but maybe earlier.

Overall I like it. You have the homer picks in there just like I think we need to get. I think adding some local players with ties to the city could inject our players with some dedication to the Bengals. You dont have any Buckeyes which I dont like but thats OK.
I am not completely sold on Tamme, I dont know if he is big enough to play TE in the NFL.
Switch the Tamme pick with Owen Schmitt FB WVU and I would love it.
Harvey would be a steal in the second and would be a no brainer if he were there.
I think the 5th rd is a bit high for Nakamura we should be able to get him in the 6th or 7th. He is supposed to be undersized and a bit slow.
I dont know much about Jordon Dizon. And just because of that I would rather take Anthony Hoke DE from UC. He is undersized for a DE but would be a great pass rushing LB. He has 12 sacks and 15.5 TFL's. he is 6' 1" 235 and runs as low as a 4.5. I think he would be a great pick.
I have a mock draft thats called the Homer Mock. You should check it out you mite like it.

Well guys does this look like a good offseason?
Well at least you did a mock, and Im not going to bash you for it (I find that completely unfair considering you actually did a 7 round mock) but I do indeed have some problems with it.
I do believe that Derrick Harvey is a 15th thorugh 25th best prospect in the draft today. I think with him declaring today makes him a middle to late 1st round pick. I do believe that there is a 0% chance that this kid drops into the 2nd Round.
Nakamura is too small, so I think he is in the range of 7th Round to Free Agency right now. I just think his size will turn a lot of scouts and teams away. Also with the big group of Safeties we have now (with signings of Turnbull and Hebert, along with Kilmer, Jackson, White, and Duke Nukem) I dunno if we would draft another Safety now.
I do not think we would draft 3 LB's in this years draft, 2 is reasonable, and I would be very excited with Lehman and Woodyard in our LB core, but the kid from Colorado, if we did draft Lehman and Woodyard, we would not even look at him.
I also think we traded away our 2nd 7th round pick to the St. Louis Rams, for Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Good find on a division 2 O-Lineman, good call.
Hopefully I get to read more from you, because its good to see people put in effort to the mock drafts.

not too bad, but there is no way Tamme will make it out of the 2nd round
also if we draft that many defensive players then you can look forward to another year of non existent offense
we've ignored it too long, we really need a center in the worst way

Joe, look at Cody Wallace, try to find information on him, I would for you, but right now Im too lazy and too much in a rush.
Cody Wallace is the best Center in my view coming into this draft.

I like it alot I do have a problem with drafting 3 Lb's though I just do not see the need since we should have plenty depending who gets resigned.
Well Woodyard is pegged to be more a safety than a linebacker, he can just play linebacker in a pinch if we need him to, something that this year has shown is important.

Well I don't have any Buckeye's because I think most of them will be just out of reach for us or not available.
I wouldn't mind having Owen Schmitt but I'd really like the Bengals to commit to a TE sometime soon. (Hows Schmitt's catching ability, we all know he can run, maybe he could play a Cooley-esque H-Back.)
Thanks about Harvey I didn't know where he would fit into, basically I think the second pick should be a DE that is no more than 6 or 7 spots projected behind us, it shouldn't be a reach, if that's the case draft the best player there, if we're going to reach just start Frostee Rucker.
I went fifth with Nakamura because I really want him in stripes, just think of him as this years Jeff Rowe but ya know useful. Jordon Dizon from what I understand is J Lehman kinda player, a lot of heart a lot of talent, but just the wrong kind of size, I wouldn't have any problem with Hoke (maybe we should just take UC's entire line) I mean those guys there can play.
I'll check out your Homer mock NATI BENGALS, mine would be all UC defensive players . :tiger:
Nakamura is too small, so I think he is in the range of 7th Round to Free Agency right now. I just think his size will turn a lot of scouts and teams away. Well just because we signed some of our guys off the practice squad doesn't mean we won't draft any safeties, I mean what do we get to start camp with 75 players? We could easily get some "extraneous" players and have them compete for their jobs, if they don't make it, then they don't make it and we still keep the better player. I would love it if we could get Nakamura in the 7th, then we'd have another Ndukwe on the roster.
As to the Fitzpatrick draft pick, I think we could get a 7th rounder for Rudi ;)
Thanks for the compliment, I dunno I love mock drafts because you can almost see the team improving before your eyes, you only see the good in players and not the bad, it is the ultimate homerism experience. B)
also if we draft that many defensive players then you can look forward to another year of non existent offense
we've ignored it too long, we really need a center in the worst way
I know we need a center but looking at FA and then looking at the draft we have much worse needs right now, I think that even though our offense can't be ignored just looking at our roster you can see that the only spots that need improvement are TE, and C, possibly RB if you don't like gambling on Watson carrying the load, or Dede's limited amount of snaps and Kenny not being there for the year. We're practically stacked at WR and hopefully this year we get an extension on TJ with all of the cap drain we'll have by dropping our overpaid D-line.
Irregardless the only way I'd want us to draft a RB is McFadden which the pundits say will not be there at 9th (hopefully we get another Adrian Peterson scenario). The only TE's I'd want before the 3rd are late first rounders we won't get and this crop of Center's doesn't look too great from where we're drafting. That leaves us with a defense heavy draft, which isn't a bad thing since next year we'll have the option to go offense heavy and when all the contracts line up we won't have a terrible "offense learning curve gap".

I don't think Harvey will last that long, but that is a draft I could live with. (Note, I am not saying Harvey is good enough to go much higher than that, I just think he will.)

Great Call on Nakamura, I haven't even seen much of him on draft sites yet. I don't know if we'll try anything as high as round 5 on him though. I would like to see him maybe in the 7th. I think he will be a great special teams player.
Harvey won't make it to the second round - what about Dingle from WVU? After his performance against Oklahoma which he showed great athleticism and determination I think he woudl be great for the D-Line. He could bulk up and play DT or play DE and afford to lose a few poiunds. Or he would help with the adjustment to the 3-4 if that's the way it goes.
I'm sorry but I don't like either of your LB picks. If we are going to get one, I would look for another undersized DE and move him to LB. Pollack is gone and although Jeanty had a decent first year here, he didn't show much this season. I'm ready for an upgrade. I haven't done much looking yet, but there's bound to be someone.
