View Full Version : Why the anger?

In today's society there seems to be a growing and disturbing trend that I notice almost everywhere I go...people are extremely angry.
I once read a statistic that estimated 7 out of 10 people you encounter today are angry about something. That doesn't surprise me. Just walk down the street and you'll probably cross paths with someone who has a look on their face that begs for a confrontation.
Personally, I like to be friendly. It's just the way I am. I like to say "hi" to people I don't know, I like to smile at people, I like to help other people out whenever I can...yet it seems a growing trend in America is to ignore your fellow citizen, wear a chip on your shoulder, and turn the other cheek when others are in need of assistance. People today seem to have built a "wall" around themselves. They walk around as if no one deserves their attention, and are quick to confront and threaten others in petty situations that require no such action.
Did you ever notice how everyone that drives faster than you is a maniac and everyone that drives slower than you is a moron? Or at least this seems to be the perception of the average American.
My question is why? Why do you think people are so angry? Have you built a "wall" around yourself and is this how you walk around on a daily basis (be honest)? What has caused this growing trend in our society?

Well, I used to be one of the friendliest people that I know, but then I went through a tough breakup!!! I was in a bad mood for a little while, and I miss being soooooo friendly! I have off days and good days....I don't know what it is!
I'm trying to not be such a D!CK, but it's hard...I don't know what happened....hormones raging i guess....HAHAHA....that's what my dad would say, but I really don't know...(I've said that like 10 times now)...
I think tommorow, I will be a good person...I'm normally a lot nicer when I DON'T get sleep, so....looks like I'm not going to sleep til about 3 tonight!!!

Are you judging me? That makes me so ANGRY!!! [:@] You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!

When I go out to run in the park, often times people will look away if I make eye contact. I don't know why. I suspect that there is a personal space issue. It's not necessarily that they are angry, but perhaps that "wall" is there for their own comfort. They can avoid nervousness by avoiding any contact at all. Maybe that can be traced back to when your mother told you not to talk to strangers. Of course, this is just speculation.

Or maybe you and Shannie are just hording all of the cheer. [:P][:D]

inflation and gas prices, hip hop generation of thugs and tough guys(what a joke), global warming, and war, and just the stress of dealing with all the people on a daily basis that snow ball the feelings....just a hunch. I try to be social and freindly by choice because I have noticed this more and more the older I get. We become the mask we wear the most...who said that? try to appear and carry yourselves in a more positive manner and maybe you will get their eventually.

Overwork. Pure and simple. Fact is, most people hate their jobs; and this hacks them off. Then they take it out on society.

Normally I'm a pretty easygoing and friendly person also. I do find, however, that when I'm not feeling well, exceptionally tired, or under the weather...that I am grouchy as all get out. And let's not EVEN talk about the miserable effects that PMS has...ugg! To the guys out there that think women are justing using PMS as an excuse to be bi*tchy, well all I can say is this: You spend three or four days straight bleeding like a stuck pig and see how you feel. It's painful and draining and your hormones really do get imbalanced sometimes. <<stepping off soapbox now>> LOL!!!! (and no, it isn't my time of the month, hahahaha!)
I think that many people tend to neglect themselves and their health. They don't feel good, therefore they can't be cheery and happy all the time.
Just my two cents. [;)]

I like a lot of rap, but I have to admit that hip hop has a lot to do with it. It seems I always get dirty looks from people (the vast majority being white kids) with rap thumping out of their system rolling down the street. It's evolved into a culture of all bragging and substance few and far between. Another reason, probably bigger is the political climate. I'm as guilty of this(probably moreso) as anyone. Nothing gets people hotter than someone with a different viewpoint getting loud about it. People by nature look for someone to blame for why things aren't the way they think they should be and they go from there. I hate to admit it, but Beaker definitely has that right about society in general. The right blames sexual debauchery, secularism, pacifism. The left blames greed, religious dogma, unwillingness to accept change. I'm watching Michelle Malkin right now. Man, there's no one on TV that could look more p.o.ed than her.

Gas prices at 3.34 a gallon costing 36 or more bucks per fill up for a 4 cylinder car makes me very angry because it cuts into the beer budget.

I do think that its the "wall" people have. For instance, have you ever seen someone you know out in public and you recognise them before they recognise you? Do you notice that sudden change in expression they go through once they realize the wacko approaching them is a friend? The wall is a defense mechanism most people use so they are not vulnerable physically or (more importantly) emotionally.

We project an image that, for the most part, is a total fabrication of their true self

Ever read Ishmael By Daniel Quinn? You might find your answer there. At least, you'll find a great theory as to the reason for the anger. I'll simplify it in case you don't get a chace to read it. People are living a way of life that we were not meant to.

I read that and saw the movie Instinct which was based on the book. Interesting take on things. I liked the book, movie was just okay.
