1st -- Sedrick Ellis, DT USC
The Bengals need a dominant run stopper and someone who can get to the QB from this position. With Dorsey being gone, Ellis is the next best on that board. Add the fact that Thorton may be a cap casuality and Robinson's status as a FA, and this is a need and value pick.
2nd -- Tyson Jackson, DE LSU
Justin Smith's price tag is too expensive and Jackson gives the Bengals some much needs pass rushing ability from the DE. Can play a 4-3 or 3-4.
3rd -- Darry Beckwith, LB, LSU
May opt to stay in school and if he does, will be a 1st rounder next year. Gives the team some more athletic muscle in the front 7.
3rd -- Jermichael Finley, TE Texas
After Fred Davis from USC, the fastest and best receiving TE in the draft will be a pass catching compliment to Reggie Kelly.
4th -- Alex Mack, C California
Smart, big, nasty First Team All Pac 10 will give this team some needed beef in the interior line.
5th-- Wesley Woodyard, SS, Kentucky
Was recruited to play safety in college and converted to LB. May be undersized for LB and a step slow for safety in the NFL and will drop because of this. Has a nose for the ball and will be great value at this point.
6th-- Carlton Medder, OT Florida
3 year started at RT for Florida, can play Guard and will be able to provide depth on the O-line.
7th-- Jason Rivers, WR Hawaii
Will be a special teamer and compete for a spot at WR. If a current receiver can't go for some reason, will provide good depth on the receiving core.

Would love to see it play out that way, but also like the TE out of KY

I love Jacob Tamme. The guy catches everything and is an AWESOME character guy. I just feel like we need an athletic freakish type athlete to spread the field and give our offense a different look.

Not bad, I hope Ellis is there at nine. I got my doubts.

Nice draft, I would be estatic to get this. I don't know much about later picks, but if you are describing them accurately, then they sound good to me.
One question, you say Darry Beckwith may be a potential round 1 in 09 if he doesnt declare, why do you have him in the 3rd? A potential 1st rounder would likely be a 2nd round pick this year right?

If Darry Beckwith had another season to mature a little more, I definately think he'll be a first rounder. He was kind of overlooked this year, with Dorsey, Highsmith, Zenon and the media darling Steltz.
Well, we will find out for sure... he has said he will come back for his senior season, as well as Tyson Jackson.
I will do some research and come back with an edited 7-round mock for everyone...
Stay tuned.

EDITED:
I drafted a LB in the second round and a DE in the third after finding out Tyson Jackson and Darry Beckwith are staying in school. Thoughts?

1st -- Sedrick Ellis, DT USC
The Bengals need a dominant run stopper and someone who can get to the QB from this position. With Dorsey being gone, Ellis is the next best on that board. Add the fact that Thorton may be a cap casuality and Robinson's status as a FA, and this is a need and value pick.
2nd -- Curtis Lofton, LB Oklahoma
Early entry to the draft, Lofton has emerged to become one of the greatest defenders in the country. Won the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year award with 157 tackles.
3rd -- Chris Ellis, DE Virginia Tech
You have to like the speed that comes with his size. Can play both the 4-3 and 3-4. Had six sacks in 2005 but saw that total drop to 4.5 in 2006.
3rd -- Jermichael Finley, TE Texas
After Fred Davis from USC, the fastest and best receiving TE in the draft will be a pass catching compliment to Reggie Kelly.
4th -- Alex Mack, C California

That would be a very good draft. But Chris Ellis won't last that long. He's a second round pick. Some even have him late 1.
And Sedrick might not either.

I like the defensive themes to your drafts. Based on what I have read about him I would love to have SEdrick Ellis. I also agree that if we do take any offensive position it should be o-line or TE (unless mcfadden falls to 9)
only suggestion in my book would be that I think since Whitworth is a little better suited for tackle that if we do take an o-lineman we try to get a guard - maybe someone who is in the same mold as eric steinbach

I love the first two picks, but there is no way this team will draft Finley with our TE philosophy because all I've heard is that he can't block at all. He is an extremely dangerous reciever though.
Also Ellis has had some character concerns and looks like more of a pass rush specialist.
I think Mack is a junior who didn't declare.

Updated Mock Draft 2-1-08
:tiger:
1st -- Sedrick Ellis, DT USC
The Bengals need a dominant run stopper and someone who can get to the QB from this position. With Dorsey being gone, Ellis is the next best on that board. Add the fact that Thorton may be a cap casuality and Robinson's status as a FA, and this is a need and value pick.
I DO believe he will be there. In any other draft, probably not, but those drafting in front of us don't have huge needs at DT, AND there is a DT slightly ahead of Ellis on the board.
If teams do NOT trade up, I still think we land the big man.
2nd -- Lawrence Jackson, DE USC
I had Curtis Lofton here before, but his stock has slipped and I believe we can get great value with Jackson here.
3a -- Curtis Lofton, ILB, Oklahoma
Early entry to the draft, Lofton has emerged to become one of the greatest defenders in the country. Won the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year award with 157 tackles.
Staying with this pick even with the talk that Odell and David may be back.
3b -- Steve Justice, C Wake Forest
Had us taking Chris Ellis here. Although he is moving down the board and I think he will slip to the third, getting Jackson earlier takes us out of contention for Ellis. Character issues had us borderline on him, despite his talent anyway.
We need a franchise C and Eric got pushed around too much last year. Alex is not the answer at C either.
4th -- Wesley Woodyard, SS, Kentucky
Was recruited to play safety in college and converted to LB. May be undersized for LB and a step slow for safety in the NFL and will drop because of this. Has a nose for the ball and will be great value at this point.
Had us picking him in the 5th, but with Mike Singletary going ga-ga for him at the senior bowl, he has moved up the boards. Great addition as depth for the Will and ST.
Formally had us picking C, Alex Mack, who is returning to school. Justice will take care of our need at C
5th --- Jermichael Finley, TE Texas
After Fred Davis from USC, the fastest and best receiving TE in the draft will be a pass catching compliment to Reggie Kelly.
Especially with our WR corp in flux, we need a pass catching compliment to Kelly. I love Coates, but compared to him, Finley is a burner. Stock is dropping and will slip to a second day pick
6 --- Jack Williams, CB Kent St
Saw him play firsthand against Kentucky this year and was an absolute stud. Shut down Keenan Burton and Steve Johnson, at times. Suffered from Champ Bailey Syndrome (QB will not throw his way) so his stats suffered. A steal here and great depth his Madieu is not resigned.
7a-- Carlton Medder, OT Florida
3 year started at RT for Florida, can play Guard and will be able to provide depth on the O-line.
7b-- Jason Rivers, WR Hawaii
Will be a special teamer and compete for a spot at WR. If a current receiver can't go for some reason, will provide good depth on the receiving core.

I like this draft a lot, but I think we're in more need of a good OLB in the third such as Erin Henderson or Shawn Crable. See my draft from today.

I like you new draft. The UK fan in me would rather see us pick up Tamme instead of Woodyard. I agree that Ellis has a decent chance of being there because not many teams ahead of us really need a DT. My only worry is if the Raiders trade back to the 8 spot.

I think they will both be there. Woodyard is surprising coaches with his ability to play OLB as opposed to SS.
I think you have to take Lofton if he's there. If he's not, then maybe look at Erin Henderson or Shawn Crable. But Woodyard would be a great OLB too.

I think if D Mac is there, there's no way Davis could not grab him.
I like Tamme too, and thought about taking him, but I didn't want people to think I was a total UK homer.
(But I am!)

I am not sold on that DE out of LSU in the second. We have to pick up the corner from Wisconsin who was injured if he is there in the 7th. I heard he might be. That would be a steal since he had first round talent before getting hurt.
1st- Sed Ellis
2nd-lawernce jackson
3rd- shawn crable
3rd- Jacob Tamme
4th-Alex Mack
5th- Wesley Woodward
6th- Best offensive lineman that is not a center
7th- Jason Rivers
7th - Jack Igaienee(sp) corner from Wisconsin

Dude, you gotta do your own work. Alex Mack, who I had in my original drafts, decided not to come out. Original ideas please, not just regurgated information.

I would say if we could get someone maybe like Johnny Dingle or Matt Forte in the 4th round, that would be great IMHO.
