9. Cincinnati (7-9)
The Pick: Kenny Phillips, FS, Miami*
The buzz: The Bengals defense gives up too many big passes, and Marvin Lewis needs a playmaker at free safety.
Obviously they forgot to watch our last string of games where the rookies got the start. I know these things are just for fun for the most part. But FS? You have got to be kidding me. I also forgot about the Pats having a 7th overall 1st round pick, I really wish they would have gotten that one docked from them..The idea of them picking up Gholston makes me sick.
Besides that if Rivers is available by pick 9 and the other diamonds are gone I see us snatching him up.

Yeah, pretty crazy. However, don't put too much stock into these quite yet. You never know guys....as stupid as I think it is, the Combine is asolutley KEY. Some guys could very well fall right into our laps. (cough..cough...Ellis..cough...cough)

That would really, really hurt!! He's a pretty big dude! At least he won't have to fall that far to land in our laps... it might not break anything. Just a couple bruises y'know.:what:

That mock draft is exactly what I am afraid might happen - all of the top d linemen gone by pick 8.
I am hoping some of the offensive guys shoot up the board after the combine.

If Ellis or Dorsey is not there at 9,,we gotta go rivers.
Ndukwe and White will be staples in this d for years to come.

I just dont see why we should go LB.... Now if Landon and Dhani both bolt and Odell doesnt return then yah we should grab a LB if the big 4 lineman are gone, but if all or even 2 of those players come back i dont see hy people are so strung on taking a LB at 9 as opposed to trading down and taking a PHilip merling, calias campbell or derrick harvey

The top four (Long, Gholsten, Ellis, Dorsey) will all be gone by #9. But don't panic. I guarantee that there will be at least 9 VERY good players coming out of college this year. Someone will shoot up the boards at the combine. If it is a D-lineman or a big LB then we take him. If it is any other position then we try to trade down.
BTW Phillips didn't play up to his hype this year. I don't think he is even a top 20 pick anymore.

There's so many mock drafts it's not worth paying attention to just one of them, look at several or all of them, tally up who they've all got the Bengals taking and you'll get a pretty good consensus out of that instead of looking at just one with something we don't like

I'm not sure I'm going to pay attention to this one when they have the Jaguars picking Andre Woodson. Why would the Jags want to draft Woodson? They have Garrard and Quinn Grey played well as the backup. If you draft Woodson, you aren't looking for a backup, you are looking for someone to be your star QB. That's not what the Jags need. That pick makes no sense IMHO.

Me too.
Me three. I'm hoping some of those WR's and QB's kick butt in the combine and individual workouts.

I've literally seen 100's of mocks and about three of have us taking phillips (I assume all of those have us losing williams and not trusting white to start, can't blame them he really only played in two games) I have even seen one with us taking an OT, so don't take these things to heart right now.
As of right now I see us grabbing Derrick Harvey over Keith Rivers. I am assuming Ellis and Gholston aren't there and we re-sign Landon and Dhani.
I would be happy with a Derrick Harvey, Trevor Laws draft. Then again I really wouldn't care who we drafted in the 2nd round if we got Ellis.

I'm not going to rule out Phillips because we are the Bengals, but we have some things to look at. Our afety spot isn't as peachy as some people make it sound like. Yes Ndukwe and White played really well, but both really showed up against some bad O's. White didn't play that well for a lot of the beginning of the season and didn't show up till the end. Both are good against the run, but they still have a lot to learn about pass coverage.
We also have to hope that DJax is cut. He's still got the MVP ego so he won't take to riding the pine quietly. Madieu needs to be re-signed, if the price is right, because I believe the combo of him and Ndukwe and rotating White in would be extremely effective. We've got a lot of safeties so it's going to be a big competition in camp.
Also, you've got to look at the mock. They're not going to factor in trade downs. If all the defensive studs are gone at 9, then we're going to trade down. Hopefully McFadden falls to us because then we either take him or hopefully trade down with Dallas for their two 1st rounders and also get Barber. I love mocks, but they're all just speculation at this point, nothing else is factored in, we've yet to see the combine and free agency affect it.

Well White and Chinedum were both rookies, not really any different than what would happen if they took Phillips, even Leon Hall endured growing pains, especially the Week 2 Cleveland game with how the Browns went right after him on 4 of their touchdowns. Sure it was frustrating to watch but I couldn't get mad at it because Hall was only learning at the time and that's all he could do with his experience and Cleveland deserves credit for exposing Hall like they did that game
For how the season finished and how Chinedum and White played, they deserve to enter training camp as starters in the secondary, the Bengals could just sign a journeyman to be the nickelback with those 2 playing, because I wouldn't want to waste a Day 1 pick on an unnecessary need, they should stick to the trenches for those day 1 picks because they lost a lot of battles there this year plus I don't think Justin Smith is coming back unless he takes a significant pay cut which nobody does unless you sign with New England

exactly, i see madieu as one of the most important players to get resigned this offseason. i see a lot of potential in white as many others do, but getting rid of madieu would be a mistake. i want to see how he looks under a new coordinator and new scheme, with a (hopefully) greatly improved front 7

What would his asking price be??

White has done nothing in this leauge to prove that he can start in the nfl espically over Madieu Williams.
I wouldn't be surprised if Leodis McKelvin makes it past the Patriots if they can't resign Asante Samuel. I would like us to look at Derrick Harvey at 9 if we can't get one of the top 4 defensive lineman

I don't know who to take if the our top four guys are gone.I know that it won't be Kenny Phillps.

I could see a Derrick Harvey pick in the 1st, maybe him and Trevor Laws in the 2nd. I would be happy with that.

I wouldn't mind Trevor Laws in the 2nd round, but i would rather take Cambell in the 1st if the top defenders are gone just not at #9 we would have to trade down.
