Cats vs. Dogs.
For me, cats. The are lower maintenance and far more independent. They surprise you everyday with how more audacious and cheeky they get. Plus they provide great companionship when they come sit with you whilst you are doing stuff.

I love both deeply. But I must say that I do prefer cats for many of the same reasons as you.

I have both so this is a tough argument for me but I would have to go with dogs. Sometimes when you need that companionship, the cat is off doing it's own thing and I can always count on my dog to be right there by my side. He is loyal and loving to no end. As a small child (2 years old) I had my dog at the time save my life so maybe I am a bit partial. Plus I hate furballs!!!!!! [:D]

Silly Brit, there's no "u" in color... [;)]
At this time, I'm a cat person only because I live in an apartment. If I had a yard, then I'd have dogs.

Well since I have both I figure I can speak on this subject. Dogs. Plain and simple. Cats poop in a box inside my house that I have to clean. Yuck, gross, disgusting, vile. Dogs poop in the yard, so all I have to do is just let my husband chop it up with the mower, LMAO! [:P]

Right on, think about that for a second...if you own a cat you keep a box of sh!# in your house. What a weird thing to collect. I like when you bring your little 3 year old over to someone's house who has a cat ( but you don't) and your 3 year old picks one up out of the box. Then you have to explain to them that those aren't granola bars.

Yeah, I love cats, but I really love dogs. So I have to say dogs will be my choice.

Dogs all the way. Cats walk in the litter box and walk over your kitchen counters and table. I hate them. My wife has two but they dont come around when I am there. And I tell my dog to get the kitty.

Unless its a particularly unfit cat; I'd doubt your dog would have much of a chance. Any adult cat could probably have a dog in a fight just because they're wonderfully vicious.

I am not saying it to hurt the cats, all though I can do without them. The dog just wants to play, he isnt a mean dog. They run under the table and the dog just barks and the cats hiss. Until the wife catches me and gets on my a** about it. But when she is not home!!!!!!

I love 'em both but I'm going with cats just because they don't smell as bad as some dogs do. Also you don't have to be constantly getting up to let them outside to go.

Unless it is a rediculous little dog like all those Celebrities carry with them I doubt it. Most dogs woudl have no trouble with a cat...

That's why you have them neutered/spayed so they don't do that sort of thing.

Had a cat that was neutered and he still sprayed. That cat went for a ride and didnt come back.

That's unusual. Usually it's the males that spray and neutering fixes it so they no longer feel compelled to mark their territory.
Sorry that the cat was being destructive. I'm not sure that I could have done what you did.

I'm allergic to cats, so dogs get my vote. Sometimes I think my border collie is smarter than most people. I named him Carson, so he was destined to be a great decision maker. Wish he'd calm down, though. I wouldn't trade my reptiles for anything, though. Low maintenace and fun to watch. I don't so much view them as pets, though as they are still wild to some extent.
