Lets say the trade to the Redskins actually happens with Chad. We get their 1st and 3rd. The only free agent we sign from another team is Bobby McCray.
We make the move I have been blabbing about with Detroit and Carolina. Give Detroit the 9th overall pick and move back to 15 and get Shaun Rogers. Then trade the 15 to Carolina for Kris Jenkins. We should then end up with the 21st pick our 2nd and then 3 3rds (ours, the Redskins, and a comp for Steiny).
1st Phillip Merling
2nd Malcolm Kelly, Limas Sweed, or James Hardy one of the big name WR will fall.
3rd Martin Rucker, Jermichael Finley, Brad Cottam, or John Carolson. We should be able to get a well rounded TE in the 3rd.
3rd Mike McGlynn versatile O-linemen who is a LS/T/G (Center maybe)
3rd Owen Schmitt
4th Shawn Crable. J Leman, or Ben Moffit. Best LB prospect available.
5th Jack Ikegwuonu 1st rd talent who will likely miss his first year due to injury, well worth the risk of a 5th rd pick.
6th and beyond- best player available. I would be happy with just those 7 picks, but we have a few more picks we could take risks with.
-Bam we added 3 new threats on O even though we lost our #1 weapon. Impact of Chad lose should dramatically decline. The 2 new DE's Merling and McCray should offset the probable loss of Justin due to decreased cap room from the Chad deal.
-4 new bodies on the D-line and only 1 is a rookie so we should see instant improvement.
-McGlynn steps in with the mold of flexible O-linemen that the team likes especially if Andrews leaves. Possibly saving us a roster spot with his LS skills.
-We add a short yardage power back enabling us to let Rudi (and probably Jeremi since Schmitt is a FB) go and give more carries to our explosive backs 3D, Watson, Irons, and maybe Perry. That would allow us to keep Kelly and Coates since we could get special teams play from 3D, Watson, Coates and probably the rookie TE.
-If Holt and Tab dont return we should be able to add a return man later in the draft. But I would like to see those two back.
I am not too concerned with our LB situation. That is why I waited until the 4th rd to pick one. I think we have some great potential coming back to the team and we could end up being overloaded at that position if Thurman, Pollack, Dhani, Jeanty, and Landon all make it back. Brooks, Henderson, and Schlegel should all be able to contribute and if we went into the season with those 8 I would have no complaints.
The DT rotation with Peko, Rogers, and Jenkins would be sweet. We could bring Myers back to finish off the rotation or add the next Peko/Toeiana in later rds. Geathers, Rucker, McCray, and Merling would be one heck of a DE group and once again I would have no complaints.
The triple H receiving corps with Housh, Henry, and Hardy would be a match up nightmare for opposing secondaries, plus we would have a new pass catching TE eating up the middle when those three were drawing all the coverage. I would almost say ensure we get one of the top WR in the first but I think a WR is more likely to fall to the 2nd than a stud DE.
While I am against trading Chad and letting Justin walk, I could definitely see our team being better if the offseason played out like this. A lot better.
