We've all seen some amazing singers perform the Anthem at football games (Roseanne included)

After watching a special on previous Superbowls this afternoon I noticed just how good, and how bad, some of these people are. So my question to you is, what performer has sang the National Anthem the best at the Superbowl?

Here are a few links:

Whitney Houston:

Beyonce:

Mariah Carey:

Jordin Sparks:

Carrie Underwood:

Roseanne:

I'm sure very few of you care :smirk: but Whitney Houston is by far the best of the group with Roseanne coming in a close second

EDIT: Since I left Beyonce out of the poll, count Other as her.

Im sorry, but Aretha Franklin does the National Anthem the best. So I chose other for her, not Beyonce.

I get chills everytime I hear Whitney Houston sing it. She put that baby to bed, Jordan Sparks is a close second, followed by Carey.

I agree. It's annoying when morons suggest that she lip synched the entire thing.... obviously they've never heard talent before.

With Japanese announcers! It's so obvious that he's using an auto-tuner for his voice... but who cares it's Billy Joel!

No Josh Groban? Didn't he sing it a few years back? Maybe that was the half-time show.

Whitney houston's was the best....especially when it occured, right after we went into Iraq and all, was very emotional. The only problem with it though, if anyone remembers, was she actually lipsynced it, she previously recorded it and lip synced, i think she had a sore throat or something and they were concerned with her singing it live or something like that.

I looked for it but can not find it, the best ever as far as I am concerned was done by Martina Mcbride.

I prefer an instrumental rendition of the anthem (it's a better poem than it is a song, very few people can sing it well). I've seen some pretyy good ones done on piano, trumpet, sax... I just saw Jeffrey Osborne do it in person in Portland... not too bad.

Kathy Lee Gifford. She performed it in the Super Bowl where 'Frisco beat up San Diego.

Brought me to tears.

That is actually not accurate Joe....She did sing that live....
I guess this will be one of those things we will never know the full truth about. She did admit to recording it for the super bowl because of her health at the time...she says she decided not to use the recording after it came out that she was accused of lip syncing, but that is one of those things we may never know the full truth about.

either way i still voted that one the best performance because she did do an awesome job, to me it didn't matter if it was lip synced or not, it was still her rendition and her singing and it was awesome

Very true. The only thing I know was definitely lip-synched was Alicia Keys during the Superbowl pre-game. She's an amazing singer but that was obviously a recording.

Well we can definitely agree that she absolutely revolutionized the song....it was amazing!!!! Lip synced or not she is IMO the greatest female vocalist of all tme....

Whitney's was definitly the best no matter if it was lipsynced or not it was still her singing it one way or the other.

No lip sync, no 3 hour rendition, just the song.
And yes he hits the notes at the end

I am not sure what the best rendition of the national anthem is. As a red blooded American every time I hear it I get cold chills…you know “the home of the brave” and all. I am sure the most UNPATRIOTIC display belongs to the Steelers organization. As we all know the Steelers brass decided to skip the national anthem before the Monday night Dolphins-Steelers game this year.

There is no other known instance of the anthem being skipped before a major American pro sports league game of recent vintage! The decision to bypass the anthem was unpatriotic, but was even more disgraceful due to the fact American soldiers were actively fighting in Iraq.

Whitney Houston - hands down. Gives me chills listening to it.

After re-listening ot them all I put hem in this order.

Whitney
Carrie - I liked her doing it without extra music.
Beyonce
Jordin
Mariah - I didn't like the liberties she took, but it was pure Mariah

To be fair, it wasn't the Steelers who made the decision.

"Due to the severe inclement weather conditions that caused a delay in last night's game in Pittsburgh, a decision was made by NFL representatives at the game to shorten pregame warm-ups and other activities and kick off as quickly as possible for the benefit of the in-stadium fans and the teams," NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Tuesday. "This resulted in the teams not being introduced and the national anthem not being performed on the field. This action was taken solely due to the severe weather and the condition of the field."

So, it's more like another reason Goodell should be fire. ;)

If she lip sync'd it - it was dern impressive lip syncing on live TV. I can't see a flaw in it if it's sync'd.

I heard Paula abdul was supposed to preform at the SB and she had to do a tapin gof it because she was too nervous.......apparently she didn't take enough performance enhancing drugs, although she probably takes everything else.
