I found this quote interesting:
"Goodell has the power to hand out suspensions, but teams can cut a player for conduct that reflects adversely on the club."
Didn't know the CBA was changed...

I didn't either, but it makes sense. If Goodell is going to hold the clubs responsible when players do stupid things that run them afoul of the law, it makes sense that he'd give them more leeway to deal with said problems before he has too.

It does makes sense, but I don't see the NFLPA signing off on this. Granted the players did say they wanted to clean up the game, but when it comes to losing their job over getting caught with weed, I think the players won't be behind that 100%.
Something tells me the newspaper got this one wrong. Especially since their is some talks about AJ Nicholson filing a grievance with the NFLPA about his release...

i agree its Bs that teams cant cut aplayer for bad behavior..i mean if i do something at work like come in with pot or drunk, there is no way my the united steel workers union i work for can save my job.it ashame the comissioner and union have all the power and the teams dont.i know you say we shouldnt draft these players but when you give up on these young kids its not really trying to help them either.in my opinion chris henry in all rights should have been gone from the nfl,and im a huge fan of his becasue he possibly has the talent to be one of the best recievers in this league.it should be up to marvin and staff to cut those guys because of their behavior not let the union decide how they get cut.

Thank the Lord, our team's owner wasn't stupid enough to vote in favor of the last CBA just because of the potential of 1 cap-less season.

How is this smack?
Well as you know out siders can not use the other message boards and over the past 2 years many posters have sent non-smack type of posts. And after awhile many begin to have some common ground about ProFootball besides who their favorite team maybe. Some begin to feel a part of this board even if their most favorite team is not the Bengals. I found the article interesting for both Bengal and other team fans who post on here. So I thought I would share it. If you didn't like it or find it a waste of your time O K......Some seem to have found some value in it.

The danger Philhos, is that 1 season can easily lead to 2, then 3 and then 4, and before you know it - you're looking at the problem that baseball has - smaller market teams losing players to the larger market teams. Franchises like the Cowboys would simply be able to put together an all star team with depth at every position.
Remember when Dieon Sanders got paid 36 million prior to the salary cap? How many teams - without a salary cap - can afford to do that? Just the big ones....Dallas, Washington, etc.
You'd see FA's in smaller markets snatched up because they couldn't keep up the Jerry Jones. If Chad or Carson got offered 3 times the amount of money they were making now - even 5 times, do you think they'd say no? I don't. They'd be in Dallas next season. We'd lose Troy Polamalu, too. It would happen all over the NFL.Shaun Merriman would be gone from San Diego, Champ Bailey would vanish from Denver, Reggie Bush from New Orleans, etc.
The owners decided to give in a little to the NFLPA in order to avoid standing on the edge of a very slippery slope.
