LSU imo.

I think Judge is thinking of Glenn Dorsey a DT this guy is supposed to be the cream of the crop this year out of the DTs.

Calais Campbell the junior defensive end from Miami should be the first DE taken if he turns pro early.

You can see from my user name that I'm biased, but Sedrick Ellis out of USC was first team All American last year. USC gets a lot of press for their offensive backfield, but their linebacker corps and D-line should be a force this season too. Sedrick Ellis is a lot like Dorsey of LSU. I think they're both in the 6'2, 285 lbs range.

The two linebackers to watch from USC, who are in the same class as Little Animal (Laurenitis) from OSU, are Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing. See this month's college football preview edition of SI or watch the Youtube hit of Maualuga on UCLA's QB last year.

I'm watching college Defensive Ends more this year than linebackers. I really don't think we'll re-sign Justin and his shoes will take a very high DE draft pick to fill. I know Frostee is a USC guy, but until he stays healthy for a decent stretch, I'm not comfortable with Justin leaving. Ditto for Jonathan Fanene. I'll be checking out the play of every big name DE throughout the college season. I could even envision the Bengals trading up since they're going to be rich in 2008 picks. I'm probably putting the cart way in front of the horse, but I doubt we'll back-to-back franchise Justin and he's going to command a fortune.

The guys I would like to see the Bengals draft, that might still be available when they pick are:

Chris Long DE Virginia
Frank Okam DT Texas
Xavier Adibi LB VT
Dan Connor OLB PSU
Phillip Wheeler OLB GaT

Ideally all, I would take all of them. Realistically, we need to get a pass rushing D-end and a couple of linebackers who KNOW WHAT THE HECK THEY ARE DOING! I think we hit gold with our saftey and corner picks this year, so how about investing in another WR or a pass catching tightend. Mabey Davis or Choffman could be avaliable. Or we could pick up some more O-linemen.

Thanks for the list of prospect West Tex. I'm going to use this list as a guide for watching college games, especially the DE's, LB's, and WR's. (Glad to see so many USC names) Whether or not we go after a 1st day offensive lineman depends on Stacy Andrews and Scott Kooistra. Andrews is a free agent next year and, if the Bengals stay true to form, they'll sign him to an extended contract if he looks sollid in the first 6 games or so. Kooistra's development will also dictate the need for a 1st day OL.

I always liked Howie Long. Smart dude who played with passion. I hope his kid does well at Virginia even though they choked on their first game.

So much for the Virginia Tech defense. I kept an eye on the two linebackers who have gotten so much attention, Vince Hall and Xavier Adibi. That game was boys versus men.
If you want to see how players will do as rookies in the NFL, watch them play against LSU this year. What a team they've got, on both sides of the ball. I don't think their new QB is as good as Jamarcus was, but they made VA Tech look sick. The current LSU team might set a new record for 1st round picks. Glenn Dorsey for sure at DT. Two very good and experienced corners in Chevis Jackson and Jonathan Xenon. One of their safeties (Craig Seltz or Seitz or something like that) has got 4 INT's already. The other safety #27 was crushing people. I'm a USC fan, but I'd have a hard time calling LSU the number two team right now.

Jasper Brinkley, South Carolina, ILB, 6-2, 257, 4.65

This guy is a stud and he is putting up big numbers. Since we will be drafting late second round this is my pick.

You must not look at much SEC games. You are missing a lot of SEC players. Especially at LB and P. How do you have a list without Jasper Brinkley and Ryan Succop of SC?

How High will Jake Long be on the board? I think he could anchor if he learned from Big Willie before he retires. Thoughts?

Most of the experts think Jake Long will be a Top 5 pick. Top 10 at worst.

You know the season isn't off to a great start when I'm going to the draft section of the message board in September...

After watching Justin get manhandled in Seattle, taking a DE in the first round is rapidly moving from a possibility to an absolute necessity.

With regard to the earlier posts about Chris Long (Howie's son), he's one of the top DE's in the NCAA in sacks right now. Unless the Bengals have a horrible season, or are willing to trade way up in the draft, he'll be tough to get.

Jasper Brinkley (LB, South Car) got hurt in the LSU game. I think it was a pulled groin or the like. He'd fit right in here.

There were several good DEs available in this past draft with several of them going in the 2nd Round. We desperately need another guy who can put fast pressure on the QB on a regular basis. Did you happen to see Jamal Anderson manhandle Kooistra in pre-season? That's the kind of attitude that will take our D over the threshhold. Justin is a great competitor, but he just doens't have that kind of size or speed. It kills me thinking that he's getting $8.5 million this year.

I'd like to see either a good pass rusher, maybe a speed guy or a hard hitting ILB who can cover and lay down a hit.
