Well after watching Benny's first three yard duck flop interception in the Eagles pre-season game, does it stand to reason to have a Ben versus Charlie thread? I mean after all Batch did read the passing game pretty well with some zip to the receiver for a TD. Personally I think he does look a little better and comfortable like he was made for it;well Batch of course. And from what I saw Benny looked like he was looking for a Chrysler New Yorker to come out of nowhere. LOL (sarcasm)

Charlie looks very sharp. In some ways he is far ahead of Ben in the QB position. But, that stands to reason considering how much more NFL experience Charlie has. The INT was a poor decision, not just pulling the ball down and taking the sack, but if Ben's arm doesn't get hit as he throws that's a completion and a likely 5-7 yard gain. Ben's ability to feast on the broken play sometimes leads him to try and make something out of a play that should just die a peaceful death.

I paid close attention to Ben last night....it seems he went back to his 2004-05 way of playing. Out of all his passes he only completed 3 passes where he actually threw down field over 7 yards.....it seemed he lived off his dump pass and screens again.

The few times he threw down field he didn't look that great, could of had 3 more int's.

So he is throwing more....but not downfield. He needs to stick with the dink and dunk passes.....his accuracy downfield didn't look that great.

I think it will come with time. I paid close attention too, and some of those misses were more on the account of his recievers than his accuracy. He even said that they left many things off the table as far as passing. Despite his int and a few errant throws, I thought he looked pretty good. He definitely seemed calmer and more secure. And he DID pass for 240+ yards in the first half. I'm not too worried.

he did pass for 240 yards.....with 95% of his passes being screen and dump passes for a yard where the RB got 20 yards after the catch.

Like i said, he just didn't look real good when throwing down field. He should have a big year living off the dump pass...the problem being, just like last season, when your team has to throw down field can he get it done? Didn't look like it yesterday...but it's way too early still to know for sure.....he just looked like the same qb he was last year and that wasn't good

I went to NFL.coom to look at the play by play
Ben went 13-25...out of those 13 completions only 2 were not short passes, he was 2-4 for any pass actually thrown over 10 yards which means he threw 21 passes 5 yards or under and out of all those short passes he only completed 50% of them. He should however do great against the bengals because we love to play off the recievers about 10 yards before the snap....he should be able to live off the dink passes all game long against us.....which i'm not happy about.....have i said yet how much i dislike our d-coordinator?

And as we all know.. screen passes don't count. Unless Palmer throws them.

Well, for Palmer, a pass 20 yards downfield is the equivalent of a screen pass for most other QBs. :p

Do we throw screens?

I will say this, at least Ben can complete screen passes. I remember Kordell and even Maddox seemed to have trouble completing screen plays.

Oh, and Ben drools, Carson Rules.:excited:

Ok I'll use the NE game this year for Benny's true measure as a QB since it was 14th ranked on passing Defense and should be better this year.

So if he puts up stats like this below then he should be good enough to be a qb for the Steelers.

32 att 18 comp 217 yards 1td (.6 actually) 1int (averaged out season on defense allowed for last year)

Now does this sound like a fair measure for Benny or do I have to use the Ravens?

I really fail to see how your response is related in any way to my post.

Palmer is one of the best quarterbacks. I think he's better than Tom Brady, and if the Bengals had the defense the Patriots do, the Carson would have like 2 Superbowl rings by now. However, until the Bengals get a good defense I think they'll be like the Colts. Getting beat in the playoffs every year, but making it 1 year, when their defense forgot to wake up during the playoffs. Someday he might be better than Payton Manning. We'll have to wait and see how well he performs over the next 5 seasons or so. He'll never be a Dan Marino though. Dan is one of those once in a lifetime quarterbacks that I was always mad that the Steelers never got. With him, we could won 7 or 8 ,pre Superbowls.

Please bare in mind that the Patriots have no WR...there best one was Deion Branch who has disappeared since leaving. Now they do have some WR so we shall see..

It isn't like Brady used to have one of the best receiving corps in football for several years or anything.......
