Captain Obvious

I haven't been to Pittsburgh since 1997, but it must of changed a lotsince then, because it wasn't this bad, or this guy is really lying. I can't say, since I haven't been there in 10 years. This was not from me though Steelers fans.
You gotta love some Pittsburghers, they really are so naive..For Christ's sake, the gangs are calling the city "clipsburgh"...The city is on pace to break the murder record..The tax base for the city is practically non-existent.They want to further tax suburbanites to offset the declining tax revenues...The suburbs are filled with people who moved out of the city because they saw the problems...Listen to the Republican mayoral candidate, he is a realist and recognizes there is a major gang problem that is going unchecked. Pittsburgh is a "backwater" town. It will never be what it once was, and I am not talking about the steel and coal industries. People always love to mention these industries. The recent rapid decline relates directly to the rise in unchecked gang activity. It has been going on for 15 years. The city is practically a ghost town if there is nothing going on at Heinz Hall , Benedum or the stadiums. The city spent itself into fiscal troubles by giving in to threats from the sports teams while the neighborhoods were left to rot. Take a tour of the lovely Mexican War streets and see the number of renovated homes that have to have iron bars on the windows and doors because of the gang and drug element living around them. I had a friend who would not listen to me (I was born and raised on the northside),he and his wife bought and renovated one of these historic homes and moved out after a year because of the drug dealing and nightly activity. They were buffaloed into believing the area was going to be a nice place to raise a family. At one time the downtown area was a thriving shopping mecca with dept stores, medium and small shops. Sadly most of these are gone. Wondering why? High theft, safety and strolling gang kids. What about the story of the kid who was shot in broad daylight across from Macy's or the one shot 15 times in Perry hilltop or the numerous other shootings occurring every day. Talk to the merchants who left, the cops on the street, serve on a jury, talk to people who have lived and experienced the decay firsthand for 30-40 years. The former mayor recognized this and wanted to clean the city up before his untimely passing. The current mayor is more interested in golfing with sports figures and jetting around the country for interviews trying to parlay his office into a celebrity role. Yes Pittsburgh was once a shining beacon of real neighborhoods and safety. Those days are long gone. Those who believe otherwise are fooling themselves or choose to ignore it. Nowadays there is a code of silence in the neighborhoods , where the gang vermin are protected. Here is just one last example. I served on a jury in a case where an individual(19 yrs old)shot another point blank 7 times in a neighborhood, in front of 30 plus people. One witness came forward. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to consider the death penalty. We were forced to hand down a life sentence. Now this gang vermin is draining tax dollars from a society he chose to repudiate. Then we had the academy award performance of his mother and relatives crying hysterically saying he is really a good boy. A good boy? I think not. A good person knows the difference between right and wrong. A good person does not pick up a gun and shoot someone 7 times. Liveable city..give me a break..Keep looking through the rose colored glasses, until you or a member of your family becomes a victim..
Oh by the way, in a recent study Pittsburgh ranked 36th out of 40 major cities for projected job growth.
If you are planning on visiting Clipsburgh, I suggest you visit the following tourist attractions: Northside, Hill District, Homewood_Brushton, E Liberty, Larimer, Oakland just to name a few...Make sure you bring a bullet proof vest. Don't forget to play a game of gang jeopardy with the following categories:
1) Shooting in broad daylight on a crowded downtown street for $100
2) Carjacked and beaten for $200
3) Carjacked and assaulted for $300
4) Robbed at the atm and beaten for $500
5) How many bullets can you pump into a human being for $1000
After playing gang jeopardy, stroll on over to the courthouse for an episode of the daily soap "My son the killer, he's really a good boy"
