In a gutsy draft day trade, we could trade our 1st and 5th to Atlanta for 2 of their 2nds and their 3rd rounder. This would leave us with 3 second rounders and 3 third rounders. This would benefit us because it allows us an extra pick in a draft deep in our positions of need. Atlanta would be able to use our first to pick up a replacement for DeAngelo Hall as the top five CB's will all be taken in the first round. Here me out before you get antsy about no 1st round pick!

Our draft could go something like this:

2a. Dre Moore DT/Maryland (Penetrating 4-3 DT or 3-4 end)
2b. Curtis Lofton ILB/Oklahoma ( the best ILB in the draft)
2c. Devin Thomas WR/Michigan St. (competes for 3rd WR and insurance for Chad)
3a. Ahtyba Rubin DT/Iowa St. (Must have DT to occupy blockers;potential 3-4 NT)
3b. Marcus Howard DE/OLB/Georgia (Tweener with great upside and sackability)
3comp. Jason Jones DE/Eastern Michigan (DE depth, sackability, and 3-4 potential)
4. Dexter Jackson WR/KR App. St. (The returner we've needed)
6a. Chad Rhinehart OT/OG/ Northern Iowa (Great size and versatility for depth)
6comp. Justin Parmele RB/Toledo (A pounder with good speed to replace Rudi)
7comp. Jake Ikegwuono CB/Wisconsin (first round potential if not injured) or Jason Shirley DT/ (sub 5 sec 40 at 327 to play NT or DT)

This draft would give us tremendous depth and skill at DL, LB, RB, WR, OL as well as add a KR and potential strong nickel CB for when Deltha leaves or a big upside at the DT/NT. It would also make the 3-4 an immediate possibility without sacraficing depth at 4-3)

Bring on the feedback!

Your heart is in the right place, but I have two qualms with this idea:

1) Atlanta would be leary about paying two top ten pick salaries to rookies; I think almost anyone would, and

2) Atlanta has many holes to fill, so many that I doubt they want to give up the meat of their draft to snag one guy they have to pay a ton to.

So nice idea in theory, not so good on practicality or realism. Wish it were otherwise, because that could be a good draft for the Bengals.

I know it's not too realistic. It's not too realistic that the Bengals make a draft day trade period! It was just a fun hypothetical to get people interested. It seems like staying put and having a good draft doesn't get much feedback or enthusiasm around here. People love the idea of a trade and new possibilities.

Yea I see where your coming from, of course the chances are virtually nil but its something cool to throw out there and talk about. That being said I like your choices for DT, however I think your on shaky ground with the two DEs. As West Texas Bengals Fan pointed out in a earlier post we'll only keep 5, and we already have 4 for sure, 5 if Pollack comes back. So if you're projecting taking two you're assuming your 3rd round comp should beat Rucker out for his job if Pollack doesn't return, and if he does your other 3rd rounder will beat him out as well. Honestly I'm not sold on taking 1 DE let alone 2. Another thing is I'm all for replacing Rudi but we need to do it with no lower than a 2nd rounder, we'd have to be pretty lucky for anyone lower than that to turn out to be a reliable franchise back of the future, so if we're going to take one in the 6th I'd rather not bother at all and gamble next year when we should have another 10 picks. Now as to that CB, 1st round talent but got injured eh? Sounds intriguing what kind of injury? Could he be the same after he recovers? I usually hate gambling on injured players but its the 7th round so why not?

Interesting points, but I think Pollack won't be back. He'd be crazy to risk it. Howard would probably be considered a LB with his 4.4 speed. Jones would occupy the 5th spot.

I'm going to give you a simple answer. It won't happen. It's a nice idea, but the Falcons particularly have far too many holes to package three picks to us. The Falcons must address QB, OT (one or two), CB/S, DT, and MLB in the first few rounds preferably. Their board is set up so that they may inject youth into their team and aid the rebuilding stage, I highly doubt they trade up that far if even at all.

Don't forget about Chris Houston, last year's 2nd Rounder. They also have David Irons and Von Hutchins. Point being, they don't need to overly exert themselves to pick up a CB, they should be fine taking one in Rounds 2 or 3.

Wow...that draft...I might cry if that happens...seriously...an ILB and WR in the second!? Followed by another WR for returning!? Positions wise other than those, it's fine, but giving up on a chance to get a top D-linmen?

I dont think you'll regret choosing Dre Moore.

Dre Moore and Ahtyba Rubin aren't top D-linemen? Also our linebacker situation, especially in the middle, has been a question mark since Odell was suspended. We don't have a decent return man or slot receiver to go over the middle. These picks could give us both as well as insurance for the future.
