Doesn't look like there are any "breathers" in there. Last season we all thought that it was an easy schedule, well this one looks like " leave it all on the field, every game, from week 1 to week 16". This season will separate the boys from the men.

The "Stains" had a great year in 2007. We didnt. Why should we get a MN game ? Lets see if the Brownies can pull off another good season. With the acquisitions they made so far, it sure is possible. The Bengals once again have something to prove. This is the toughest schedule they have had since Marvy took over.

I thought just maybe, just maybe because Carson Palmer is one of the elite QBs and then we have some Pro bowl recievers.
THATS BS NOT ONE PRIME TIME GAME!
Do you think that Chad saying he might sit or just maybe all the bad press the Bengals get have anything to do with not getting a prime time game.

Tough schedule.
No primetime games , no surprise. <_<
The NFC East and AFC South are going to be tough this year.
I hope we can make it to the BYE with at least 4-5 wins.
Speaking of, the only thing I like about this schedule right now is the Week 8 BYE.
I think we could benefit from it and hope it helps this team.
I didnt like the early BYE last season; I think it was Week 5. <_<

Ive just seen a quick interview with Marvin Lewis saying how he prefers sunday 1pm games so he has his wish!!!!
I dont see any reason why we cant be 3-1 after 4 games IF we play to our full potential.
I think we'll be somewhere between 8-8 and 10-6 which MAY be enough to win the division.

no its not.. people always complain about them putting cr@p games on tv...Im sure a lot of nfl fans think we arent a good game to watch right now.. we have to win games to get on primetime tv. We arent national media powerhouse and we looked terrible and were boring to watch a majority of the time last season.. At least this season our guys can stick to a normal schedule all season and maybe hit a stride and stay in it..

Does it really matter if they get a Prime Time game?? I don't really care if they do or not, it doesn't make or break their season, and there's flex weeks where they can move any game to anytime later in the year and if anything I like the 14 games at 1pm better because much like 2005 the Bengals made their run that year by being off the tv radar where nobody saw them coming, every year a team gets a schedule full of 1pm games and shows up out of nowhere like last year (Cleveland anyone?)

@ Balt. W - - 24 - 17

@ NYG W - - 28 - 14 Upset over defending champs in their building
vs. CLE W - - 31 - 28
@ DAL L - - 17 - 31
@ NYJ W - - 21 - 17 (2-0 in Giants Stadium)
vs. PIT L - - 21 - 28
vs. JAX L - - 10 - 24
@ HOU W - - 35 - 24 (stop the losing streak at 2)
vs. PHI W - - 28 - 20
@ PIT L - - 10 - 24
vs. BAL W - - 17 - 10 (sweep the ratbirds again)
@ IND L - - 28 - 42 (Much closer game than the score indicates)
vs. WSH L - - 20 - 24

Agreed. The primetime games are nice for the city and for the recognition but other than that a lot of the players dislike the change in the routine and the short weeks before the next game. How do we end up with playing Dallas, Indy, and NY Giants as away games and yet Cleveland pulled those three teams in as home games? How do they base the decisions on who plays where? Last year we played KC and Seattle away, and those two teams are the toughest when you play them in their own stadium? Especially Seattle, did anyone know that last year Seattle Seahawks broke the record for least penalized football team in a football season in the history of the NFL. Also that stadium last year was notorious for one of the most penalized opposing teams, interesting stuff! Regardless it seems sometimes home teams usually get the benefit of the doubt, unless the hometeam is the Bengals. Dallas is a horrible place to play, just ask the Greenbay Packers who can't seem to win there ever. Its a tough enough schedule but how about they spread the toughest opponents and their home away games around the afc north a little better.

As others have said, we didn't deserve a Monday or Sunday night game.

My thoughts exactly. Cleveland has been getting bye with playing the teams with really good home records and bad away records at home. Not to mention Cleveland was still alive late in the year because they played the easier games early. Cincy was the complete opposite.
Last year the Bengals were pretty beat up from playing the tough part of their schedule a the beginning. The schedules for the division are pretty tough but I'd put the Bengals as having a harder schedule than the Brownies only because the locations of the toughest games. I haven't had a chance to check the Steelers or Ravens games yet.
The Bengals sometimes find ways to lose games on their own, and sometimes very creatively I may add, so they don't need any extra help when they are in Dallas, NY, or Indy.

No one in our division has a schedule that is out of the top ten. Each of us should be scrapping for wins. If the Bengals hold their own and let everyone else mess up. Things could be good for us. I take this as a great challenge for us. We'll see what the Browns where all about last year and also see what the Steelers are about with their 2nd year coach. Plus, how much do you think the Ravens can possibly bounce back with their new coach. This will be a year where the Bengals could really show what kind of team they are.

Well the schedule is pretty much determined a couple years ahead of time when it comes to what divisions you play against
But Still
WOW
Look for NE to be one of the top teams in the regular season again...
it may come back to bite them hard in the playoffs when they run into the high caliber teams though
not as long as they're at home, with that schedule that doesn't appear to be a problem unless San Diego can overtake them with their 2nd easiest shcedule, but when New England isn't in the Northeast, that's where they're vulnerable
Bengals73

Their games are divisional, those are long standing rivalries where it was more of a tradition thing that got them those games
And not to mention they have the Ultimate playmaker.. Devin Hester...

I don't think we're that small of market, heck there's only 32 teams.Winning changes everything.
I've seen some really bad Monday night games in years past but really none from the Bengals.
The worse and I mean the worse prime time game I saw the Bengals in were against the Falcons on a Sunday night 4 or 5 years ago.
They were horrible, do you remember that game?
Yes I do....
Nonetheless, they're very much "small market". The Bengals are simply not a big enough draw to warrant many prime time games. They would have to maintain a much more consistent track record of success to get the benefit of the doubt after a season like the one they had last year.

16 games with teams carrying in a combined .547 winning percentage from 2007, PBS is host to four playoff teams.
Five of the seven foes won at least 10 games last year and four made the playoffs. Dallas won the NFC East at 13-3 while the runner-up Giants went 10-6 before winning the Super Bowl. And both are on the road.
Only two teams show up at PBS off a losing season, but the 5-11 Ravens don't come until Nov. 30 and the 4-12 Chiefs don't arrive until the regular-season finale Dec. 28.
We open with a AFCN opponent on the road in BAL; come back home for a young playoff team in TEN; Then go play the defending SB champs @ thier place where we have never beaten them; Back home to play a 10 win CLE team; Then its on the road to play another playoff team in DAL; Staying on the road Wk 6, back to the Meadowlands, some 27 years after Cincinnati's AFC champs logged the franchise's only Meadowlands victory over the Jets in 1981; Then its back to PBS to face the AFCN champs in PIT.
We get PIT twice in 1 month and a day, Oct. 19 & Nov. 20.
Finally a week of much needed rest with the BYE in Week 8.
The schedule starts back up with a home game against another playoff team in JAX.
Then its @ HOU, PHI, @ PIT, BAL, @ IND, WSH, @ CLE and finish the season in PBS vs KC.
We have to get off to a good start and roll into the BYE with 4-5 wins IMO.
4 of the first 6 teams made the playoffs including the SB champs; I see alot of teams that like to run the ball this year.

Forget skating into the playoffs. I want to see our Bengals do good against last year's playoff teams. I want to see us finish these games strong and win the mahority of them. This way that when we get to the playoffs, then we're more confident about winning it all. Who Dey!

What I have never understood is, why don't they let each team host 1 primetime game every season? There are 16 Sunday night games and 16 Monday night games. It would sound logical to me that each team gets to host one of those. If they want DAL or NE on in primetime 5 times a year, fine, give them 4 road games to go with the 1 they host.

I'm fine with the schedule, I have us going 9-7. With our schedule and the others i the division I don't really see how we won't be the front runner for the AFC-N title. I mean sure Browns get Dallas at home but what people is forgetting the Browns wanted Dallas at home at the end of the season not when its 80 degrees out.
Besides that, not having a Monday or Sunday night game lets our players rest up unlike last season where we had 3 prime time games and played tough physical teams and then had a short week.
I can't complain and I won't our tough games usually follow an easier game. Worst case scenario 8-8.

Actually the Bengals have faced a schedule like ths not too long ago, in 2006 the Bengals had the toughest sked in the NFL with the Giants but by the numbers it's tougher this year by a game
2006 - 139-117 .543 T1st in NFL
2008 - 140-116 .547 T7th in NFL
What bites is that I'm all the way north, and every year I hope for some night games for a chance to watch from home. I still manage to watch every game, but I go over by brother in law's house cause he has sunday ticket. Asside the thursday night game, I guess I wont be watching from home.

And id rather win 10 games and sneak up on people watching on Sunday Ticket then having the announcers talk about our "off field troubles' in front of all North America.. If we are good enough then we will win our fair share.. you dont know who the good teams are yet.. like it was said earlier this thread.. we lost to the frikken 49ers!! so does it really matter who we play??

Some comments of interest regarding our division by ESPN's Matt Mosley
Cincinnati: How ironic? The Bengals play eight teams ranked in the top 10 in overall defense from last season, during a year they cut receiver Chris Henry and when Chad Johnson is trying to get out of town. An opening game Sept. 7 in Baltimore could be dangerous during the debut of Ravens head coach John Harbaugh.
Cleveland: Eight of Cleveland's games are against teams that made the postseason in 2007. The pressure will be on Derek Anderson, who needs to play well against the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers in the first two weeks to avoid any potential quarterback controversy involving Brady Quinn.
Pittsburgh: The Steelers have the toughest strength of schedule in the NFL, with opponents combining for a .598 winning percentage. Pittsburgh's most high-profile games include the New York Giants (Oct. 26), San Diego (Nov. 16), New England (Nov. 30) and the Dallas Cowboys (Dec. 7).
Baltimore: The Ravens have the league's fifth-toughest schedule despite their 5-11 finish last season. The month of December will be brutal as the team faces the Washington Redskins (Dec. 7), Pittsburgh Steelers (Dec. 14), Dallas Cowboys (Dec. 20) and Jacksonville Jaguars (Dec. 28).

Well there's a benefit to the Bengals, the Giants visit Cleveland and Pittsburgh, I'd rather play them 3-5 at home than 11-1 on the road

I like the schedual, i think if we can do alright early that we will have a good shot of making the playoffs. i do not like that we play the Jets the week after their buy week and we play the steelers after their buy week. they have an extra week to plan, prepair, and rest. We do play the jags after our buy week though and they will have played (and beat) the stains the week before.

I hope so because I live in Petersburg VA. Plus the only tough games on the schedule are Indy,Cowboys,Jags, and a split with *****burgh if not sweep. Ravens and Stains dont stand a chance Cle. was lucky to win the first meeting last year.

I just scanned thru all the teams schedules and the Bengals and Lions lead the NFL with 14 1pm games, the Lions would probably have more if they didnt play 12:30 on Thanksgiving, same with the Chiefs if they didn't play in the West

That's London England. ... :)
The Bills also have a preseason game vs the steelers in T.O this year
sorry I should have been more specific
so that makes 2, or maybe 1 and 1/2 considering preseason isnt much of a big deal
But still its nice to to have to drive accross the border to see some quality football.

also an interesting pattern in the schedule, the Bengals play back to back weeks at home and away only once this year, or technically not at all at home since there's a bye week sandwiched in between them, it's home or away literally every other week

Sun, Oct 12 @ NY Jets 1:00 PM

What's scary is that game 1 is almost a must win for the Bengals this season....because there are not many (any) opportunities to make up for a bad loss. I love the fact that we open with a winnable game (I'm sure Ravens fans feel the same way). Oh well, I've got four more months of playing out different scenarios in my head.

Two games are being played behind an igloo? :p
Actually they will be playing on skates and instead of field goals being kicked, field goals will have to be done using the method of SLAP SHOT!
We will have seals balancing footballs on their noses instead of cheerleaders,
Instead of selling hot dogs and sausages we sell Mooseburgers and Goose meat on a stick
and all through the crowd you will hear
What was that call all ABOOT EH??
LOL
Not necessarily, Sabres owner Tom Golisano is interested in buying the team and even their former QB Jim Kelly has a group ready to buy them so they can keep the team in Buffalo, I could see Golisano still doing the Toronto thing for preseason for marketing seeing how he put the Sabres in his hometown of Rochester for a game in his first year as owner
This is more of an issue for Rodger Goodell than the ownership of the Bills Franchise. Rosell had the merger, Taligbue had Labor peace and made the NFL what it is today . Rogers two main focusus will be Player conduct and International revenue; thats why were playing games in London in back to back seasons.

Well Goodell is also from Western New York so if there's a way the Bills can stay in Buffalo I'm sure he would support that as well, Ralph Wilson wont sell the team as long as he's alive and his family doesn't want the team when he passes on, but I hope Toronto doesn't get them, I just despise the ownership of their teams there and it would be good to see Buffalo get saved by Golisano like he did the Sabres after the Adelphia mess

Here is my early season guess:
Wins- Ravens, Ravens, Browns, Steelers, Texans,Titans, Jets, Chiefs, Redskins, and Eagles
Losses- Browns, Steelers, Cowboys, Colts, Jaguars, Giants
10-6 should get us division since Browns and Steelers have harder schedules.

What makes you think we win only 3 games? I just don't understand how you can look at the schedule be a fan of this team and say "3 games" I can swallow 6-10 or 7-9 but when you have a QB like Carson and young defensive talent and a new DC that is not a clown. how do you figure that we will be the worst team in the NFL? Personally I think we will finish anywhere between 6-10 or 10-6 this team can go either way. That is not being a homer in any sense.

It's based upon a formula that was designed in 2001 which dictated the schedules for the 2002 through 2009 seasons.
So who we play was dictated by the formula designed in 2001, with the exception of the last couple teams...based on results of previous season within the division. Regardless, does that same formula decide which teams we will play at home and which teams we will play away games against?

Exactly, as long as Palmer is the QB this team has a chance to win, what they do beyond that is up to the Defense and Zimmer's mind is what'll determine if the team can make that next step which is already an upgrade over Bresnahan

i like the set up of our schedule, even tho it will tough.
this team could easily start 4-2 with victories over Baltimore (who we've owned recently), Tennessee (no offense), Cleveland at home and the pitiful Jets.
Chalk up away game losses at New York and Dallas.
That would leave us at 4-2 going into a massive game at home against Pitt.

I kind of like flying under the radar...everyone is talking about CLE and how good they will be (similar to how they did with us in '06 and '07) but now were a middle of the pack team like we were heading into '05 when we went to the playoffs...I'm optomistic
Same here, i think it is a very good thing to have such a tough schedule early. If we
manage to start out 2-0 which is what i am figuring will happen, we would be coming
into that 3rd away game against the Giants with a lot of confidence. If we make it a
close game or even pull out a win we will be well on our way.
The away games against the Giants, Cowgirls and Colts are what will show us how good
we really are.
With a good draft focusing on the trenches on both sides of the ball and a running attack
we should give them all a run for their money and if we reach that 9-7 to 11-5 area we
should win the division going into the playoffs with momentum and with our tough sched
ready to play.

Yes. For example, next season we play at home against Chicago and Detroit while traveling to Minnesota and Green Bay. I've personally been aware of this because, ever since the formula was announced back in 2001, I've known that I wouldn't get a chance to see the Bengals in this area until 2009. It's been a long wait, but I will finally get to see them at both locations next season.
For reference, here's the 2009 formula for the Bengals....
HOME: BALT, CLEV, PITT, DEN, KC, CHI, DET, AFC South opponent
AWAY: BALT, CLEV, PITT, OAK, SD, GB, MINN, AFC East opponent
The 8-year formula guaranteed that each team will play every other team in the league at home and away (international games notwithstanding) during that time. JohnnyRoadTrip.com (http://www.johnnyroadtrip.com/schedules/nfl_future_afcn.htm) has every team's formulas for all 8 seasons.
What happens after 2009 is anybody's guess, though I would suspect they will keep the same rotation. It works pretty well with the 32-team league.

I like the formula as well, but if the league expands beyond 32 teams the symmetry behind it is going to be thrown off and it was awful when there was 31 teams, we'd have to play 10 divisional games and play only 3 teams in the NFC, I hated the unbalanced schedules
this doesnt bother me one bit. i look forward to the browns laying an egg on national tv like we have done a few times the past couple years, proving that they are a playoff contender like most teams, and not championship contenders like they believe they are.

They scheduled a lot of unusual matchups for Monday Night but I like the 1pm games for 14 weeks, nobody will pay attention to the Bengals and every year a team with a schedule like this shows up out of nowhere (Cleveland last year)
here's some of the strange monday nighters
Sept 22 - Jets @ Chargers (4-12 team vs an 11-5 team??)
Sept 29 - Ravens @ Steelers (blowout on MNF last year)
Nov 10 - 49ers @ Cardinals (3rd time in 4 years on primetime?)
Nov 17 - Browns @ Bills (Browns make sense but the 7-9 Bills??)
Dec 1 - Jaguars @ Texans (Jaguars in a divisional game sure, but the Texans??)
Dec 8 - Bucs @ Panthers (I don't know how these 2 had a MNF game 2 years ago but there's a lot better than this)

Man after seeing this shedule i am not going to be able to see any games while sitting at home.Couldn't we have gotten at least 1 sunday or monday night game. For me living in Springfield IL this really ticks me off.Now i have to go to sports bars to see the games, and i hate doing that because they never have the sound of the Bengals up it's always the crappy Bears or Rams.
Buck up there big bot
Put on the gear and go to the bar.....

I just realized that I've got a shot at seeing a game. Seattle plays in the morning on Oct. 5th and Washington always seems to carry the Cowboys games when Seattle isn't on.

Freakin' brutle! If we win the division - no excuse for not winning the superbowl!!!!
For everyone upset over no primetime games...let's just hope we get the job done and get some flex games later in the season. Week 14 @ Colts and Week 16 @ Browns could very well get picked up. Colts are always good and the Week 16 game vs. Browns could easily have playoff implications.

I'd think the same thing for the Browns, but then I look at their schedule and see the even bigger game they have the following week at Pittsburgh to end the season and teams can only be flexed twice in flex weeks and the Browns will probably have 1 used up by then

It is a brutal schedule which means there's going to be some bumps and bruises, and yet, we still have our usual training staff. All we can do is pray that the injury bug has finally died in Cincy and/or our training staff reads a medical book.

Im scared of that thought........:nervous:.............:tiger:...... .......
I see 8-wins as best case scenario, and 6 or 7 the likely total. Gotta leave my pom-poms at home and be realistic. I'm guessing after a few beers on opening day my prediction will be more like 10 or 11 wins.

You can't blame the NFL if they're considering the past two seasons, plus the loss of Henry- I'm guessing they're not realizing he wouldn't be on the field much anyways since we're going back to the two-wide main base set.
I'm also guessing that they're not considering Odom and Geathers pass rushing, along with Odell and Brooks back, plus throw in Zimmer calling aggressive defenses.
We'll get a few Sunday Nighters late in the season when they realize how amazing we are.

How the Bengals go 11-5:
Sweep the Ratbirds and the Stains - defeat the Ratbirds twice, just like last year (Ravens 1-5 in Division) and improve slightly vs. the Stains (away loss last year was by 6 pts. in a very winnable game)
Split w/Pit. - the norm for us lately, minus last year
Win our home games vs. NFC East - don't know where either team is at right now: Redskins had a rollercoaster season last year (5-3 at one point, then 4 straight Ls, then 4 straight Ws, then crushed by 21 by Seahawks in Wild Card) and the Eagles will most likely be very tough but definitely realistic to get the W at home.
Beat Titans again - 35-6 last season, home game again this year.
Beat the Jets (4-12) on the road and Texans on the road - If the Texans' QB/RB combo of Sage Rosenfels and Ron Dayne can beat us, all is lost.
Finish season with W versus Chiefs (4-12) at PBS.
Our 5 Ls would be @ G-men, Cowgirls, Stealers, Dolts and a home loss versus Jaxoffville. Plausible 11-5 season with some :homer: thrown in.

I thought just maybe, just maybe because Carson Palmer is one of the elite QBs and then we have some Pro bowl recievers.
THATS BS NOT ONE PRIME TIME GAME!
Do you think that Chad saying he might sit or just maybe all the bad press the Bengals get have anything to do with not getting a prime time game.
no, i think it's simply because we stink, simple as that.
you got to win games to earn prime time games, plus we do have one prime time game on thursday night

Brutal schedule - yes, but it is up to us to inflict the same brutality to the opponents. If we can play like this is our last chance at the Super Bowl, it will be the other teams that look at their schedule and think "we are playing the Bengals, thius is going to be brutal".
It is too early to say "6-10, maybe 7-9 if we are lucky". I am glad that the season is decided by what is happening on the field and not by what the experts and ESPN, etc, say and not by "which team signed the most and most expensive players".Why give up before the first game has been played? Why roll over and play dead? Last year was last year, let's move on and make them fear the Bengals.
I am optimistic (like every year), because of the new DC and LB coaches, because the injury bug will get tired and move on and hit other teams, because Marvin will instill a sense of urgency into this team (after a more lenient first 2 seasons and a so-so "tough coach" approach after that).
Brutal schedule - yeah - bring it on and lets see what they've got and what we've got.
Hear The Tiger Roar!!!

To all those complaining about playing the NYG in the Meadowlands:
The Giants won, what, 11 in a row on the road last year, only losing the first game? They were (IIRC) 3-5 at home! Would you rather play them on the road, where they nearly went undefeated, or at home, where they didn't even break .500?

You kidding? I live in CT. I get to go to TWO Bengals games this year (Jets and Giants)!
Thats just good stuff for me.

Schedules are so overrated, you never know what teams in the NFL are going to be from year to year. No excuses, play your schedule, beat the opponent. An injury here and there can make a nasty schedule end up being average at best.
No excuses, it is what it is, now win 10 of those games and win the Division.
Remember as bad as ours seems, I would not want to play Cleveland's or Pittsburgh's either, it is all equal right now:thumbsup:
There was a team last year that had several prime time games, they had all the media saying how great they were.....that team ended up 7-9 and all but 2 1:00 games this year, and I love it:thumbsup:
Thank God someone else said it. I say this every time someone starts a thread about strength of schedule. We have NO IDEA how tough this schedule will be until January 09. Every one of these teams could turn out to be cupcakes just on injuries alone. Granted, based on LAST year, it looks tough, but we won't knowanything until the season is over.

Excellent point.

You gotta love T.J.'s attitude in the schedule release article. That is great. Now if we can get the rest of the team to get that swagger. Those quotes got me pumped!!!!! And is it me or did he pretty much say the browns are overrated????? Thats awesome.

I'm at a sports bar all day with Sunday Ticket for about the same hours are you, 5 games at once where I'm at, I don't know how I lived without it
What's funny is that the Browns got 5 prime time games, and the Super Bowl champs only 4...... go figure!
WOW!!!
Looking at the schedule, look who has the easiest schedule.... The Pats!!!! like they need any help.

The Bengals will most likely be televised in just one or possibly three games here (VA).....
@and vs Balt.
and vs. WSH
You might not even get the Baltimore games... my father in law lives in VA and all he ever gets is Redskins coverage. He's a Ravens fan (I forgive him because I love the guy), so he's always lamenting the lack of a rooting interest on Sundays.
Two things of note on the schedule: One is that the Pats got the easiest schedule... I understand the formula, but think the results are ridiculous. The other is that the Stealers* got the hardest... I cringe at that because you know their loser fans are going to be leaning on that crutch all season.

If Balt. and Wsh. play at the same time, then I only get the Skins game, but whenever one has a 1:00 start and the other has a 4:00 start I always get the Ravens game (well pretty much). So it all depends on timing I guess.

Yes, in 2001, when this year's opponents and locations were determined, the schedule maker knew the Cowboys, Giants and Colts would be tremendous powerhouses 7 years later despite them being 5-11, 7-9 and 6-10 respectively back then. The NFL is clearly using revolutionary WABAC machine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayback_Machine) technology to hold the Bengals down.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you, VCU. I live near Baltimore so I'll get both of those games and we usually get the Redskins games on Fox... so there's at least three I can count on with some certainty.

WEEK 3
Best: Cincinnati Bengals at New York Giants. Yeah, yeah, I saw the Dallas-Green Bay game that’s scheduled for prime time. That one is interesting, but I’m fascinated by the possibilities here with Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson playing on the big stage in New York, assuming he’s still with the Bengals at this point. Johnson could put on a show to be remembered for years to come, especially if he’s still angry at the Bengals. Also, having Johnson and pre-eminent trash talking cornerback Sam Madison of the Giants miked up could be awesome.
