PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Steelers are close to signing Byron Leftwich to a mutli-year deal, sources told the Associated Press this evening. No roster moves have been made by the Steelers since they trimmed their roster down to ther requisite 53 players; though it is expected that they will release Brian St. Pierre to make room for the 5th year veteran.

Leftwich will be the 3rd string QB heading into the season given his late arrival, however, the same sources claim that Leftwich will be given every opportunity to be the starter next season. It seems that Tomlin is not comfortable with Ben Roethlisberger's abilities heading into this season, given his play from last year. There have even been grumblings coming out of the lockerroom that Tomlin has been actually thinking about starting Charlie Batch.

Time will tell if this is a make or break year for Roethlisberger.

I really hope no one bought that. You should learn at an early age to hover over a link before clicking it.

And the third paragraph was a dead giveaway. If you want to make something look like a news article, don't make an editorial-like statement to conclude it.

Hmm, I honestly think Tomlin is trying to motivate Ben by this. Leftwich is not a starter anywhere, he is a HUGE QB that has a wind up slower than half the MLB. There is no way in heck that Leftwich is really being looked at to start, he simply is not all that good, and he has no touch on his passes at all. As lacking as Ben is in most categories, I can at least call him an above average QB, Leftwich not so much. I think Tomlin is trying to bring out the best in Ben, would be interesting if he brought out the worst.

You obviously don't read many news articles, especially sports articles. Most news articles today ARE editorials.

Um ... no.

There are a lot of editorials out there, to be sure, but there is still a difference. Most news articles - especially those that start with the city name and purport to be from the AP - still report mainly facts and do not venture into the world of speculation.

At any rate, it was that last sentence that pretty much confirmed my suspicion that this was just the concoction of a Bengal fan strying to stir the pot a bit, so much so that I didn't even click on the link.

A victim of wishful thinking, perhaps? :smirk:

Ben's no Carson, to be sure, but I think that most of those who wear orange colored glasses are going to be unpleasantly surprised at the way Ben rebounds from his 2006 troubles.

(I was going to say "... the way Ben bounces back ..." but then I thought better of it :nervous::lol:)

To offer a friendly tip, you may want to use spellcheck next time. Locker room is two words, not one. Also, "ther requisite"? That was the giveaway for me...

That is unless you are trying to make it read like a Pittsburgher wrote the article, which in that case, nice work!

No, there is supposed to be a difference, but there rarely is anymore.

Making a typo in a post - Minimal rep cost.
Making several typos in a post - Moderate rep cost.
Making several typos in a post you were trying to pass off as a news article? Priceless.

I'll agree that sometimes it can be hard to tell the difference, but usually in those cases the author is attributed. Anonymous articles from the AP (which you were trying to emulate) are still pretty objective.

Hey, nice try - it was a worthy concept, but it suffered from poor execution. Between the obvious subjectivity and the poor spelling, the only person you owned on that attempt was yourself.

Well ... yourself and Veteran Leadership ... :rotf:

2 typos = several? You do know that typos happen all the time even in publications? It's not that uncommon to see typos in newspapers and magazines. It's even more common to see them on websites, even reputable ones.

Considering how much you're trying to smack my post, methinks you actually fell for it and are trying to make yourself feel better. We all know you're not too bright, especially considering how much you're trying to harp on my typos.

Actually, the AP is notorious for it's liberal-slant towards any articles. Ask yourself how many positive news stories about Iraq have the AP reported.

Yes.....people are no longer being killed for being Kurdish. They hold real elections now instead of the fake ones that Saddam use to hold. People no longer vanish from their homes in the middle of the night. Iraq is no longer a threat to invade Kuwait on a whim. And oh, by the way...they're free.

Not that I believe in the oil for war argument, but how much money has Mexico been making from oil? Also, let us say that hypothetically that we did go into Iraq for oil (remember, this is hypothetical), would it not make more sense to go to Iraq because we could say it is to liberate the people, and for all the other reasons that we are told we went there BamBam?

Well, you can find gasoline in a place called the "gas station". Look, I guess what irritates me is that in your vocabulary the word "liberal" is a swear word. From the looks of this board, the majority of the people who call themselves republicans, liberals, conservatives, or democrats don't know that the word "moderate" exists.
