Has anyone heard anything about this? If players are getting suspended for DUI's and such you would think a coordinated assault on another player in a Casino that resulted in a robbery would warrant a suspension. I hope Levi sues him.

He deserves at least an 8 game suspension if not more. He deliberately tried to inflict harm on someone, and did it in a cowardly fashion by using a bunch of his thug friends. Levi and his lawyer have the video tape so if they decide to sue Joey he won't have a leg to stand on. I hope he sues and gets big money out of him. The NFL should be obligated to suspend Joey, after all they started this whole personal conduct policy, now its time to follow through.

Do you want 8 games because of the crime itself or because it was a crime against a member of the Bengals? Or maybe because it was a crime against a member of the Bengals by an ex-Steeler?
8 games is just delusional. People hear about this tougher personal conduct policy and everyone just assumes 8 and 16 game suspensions are just going to be flooding out from the commissioner's office.

I hate to see Jones sue Porter. People these days are sue happy. However Porter needs to be suspended. Porter having his friends grab Jones definatly shows that the attack was planned out well in advance. The league needs to set an example. The last thing the league needs is players taking frustrations on the field out on other players off the field.

No I want it because he was involved in a premeditated group assault against another NFL player that also invovled Grand Larceny. He is also a repeat violent offender who has assaulted other NFL players in the past. He needs at least 4 games.

I think 2 games for hitting another player in public and 2 more games for the premeditated bit (due to getting more thugs). That makes 4 games total, with one being the game against the Bengals. That's in mho.

Offically I don't believe Porter is a repeat offender. In terms of the NFL Conduct Policy that is. It's difficult to say whether the commish will use the dog incident Porter had in the past as one incident but I don't believe Porter was ever charged criminally in that incident.
If anything Porter will probably get 2 games. I don't see the commish doing any more than that...

I don't think it really matters if he is or isn't a repeat offender. What matters is that he committed this act under the current player conduct policy. It seems to me that if Goodell is serious about making a change in player conduct, he cannot just graze passed Joey Porter. This is not only a fight off field for which the police responded, but it was an attack on a fellow player for a rival team. That to me is just as outrageous as anything else that people have been suspended for.
Oh and, no it's not just because it's a person from my team. You simply cannot have NFL players taking on the field matters off the field like thugs. That is a horrible precedent in any league.

I had actually forgotten about the dog incident. I was talking about the incident where he started a fistfight during the warm-ups at a game. To me that shows a pattern of violent behavior outside the acceptable in-game limits(tackling,stiff-arms,etc) towards other NFL players. That cannot be tolerated. period. It's bad for the game.
Besides according to the new commish its a conduct policy not an arrest policy so there doesnt have to be arrests just conduct thats detrimental to the league.

This has been debated multiple times already in the Smack Forum. Under the new policy Goddell has to right to suspend/fine players without a conviction IF they are a repeat offender BUT only after the player has been charged with a crime. Goodell can not just suspend players. Porter isn't a repeat offender so Goodell couldn't do anything without a conviction (Or plea).
Now that Porter has pleded he can be suspended by Goodell. But since this is offically Porters first offense, he's not going to get a lengthly suspension. Yes, fighting a player is wrong but so is waving a gun around in public or physically assaulting a female, which Henry and Pacman were accused of...
Here is a link to what Goodell can do discipline wise under the new policy:

What do henry and Pacman have to do with this?
I dont want to rehash an old debate if its already been discussed but i have to disagree you. According to the conduct policy if the activity is violent it doesnt have to be criminal in order to be a violation. The link you posted only shows the recent modifications to the policy tht doesnt mean the old policy is nullified. I agree that porter probably wont get more than 2 games but I think he should get at least 4.
As far as not being a repeat offender he was charged with three crimes in the dog incident so he is indeed a repeat offender. Three incidents in less than three years = repeat offender.
Offense 1: Persons Engaged in Violent Activity in the Workplace
Less than an hour before Sunday's game, Browns running back William Green (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5902) and Steelers linebacker Joey Porter (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4723) squared off and wildly swung at each other near midfield.Porter landed one of his blows to Green's face, bloodying his lower lip.
Offense 2: Persons Charged With Criminal Activity
Porter was cited for harboring dangerous dogs, failure to confine the dogs, and failure to have the dogs licensed.
Offense 3: Persons Convicted of Criminal Activity
The incident in question conecerning Levi Jones

I've read the NFLPA Conduct Policy before and I have still yet to see when it states the Commissioner can suspend a player for ANY conduct detrimental to the NFL. I only posted the link to the changes because that is what you brought up.
A lot of people (Myself included before) have a misconception of the New policy that it gives free reign to the Commissioner do to whatever he feels is right but it doesn't. It gave him a lot more power against repeat offenders but that's it. That is why I brought up Henry and Pacman.
Porters dog incident didn't count as an arrest (http://www.signonsandiego.com/more/nflarrests/index.html).
Although you do bring a up a good point about the fight that Porter got into. If that counts as his first offense then Goodell can be harsher in his punishment of Porter...

Porters dog incident didn't count as an arrest (http://www.signonsandiego.com/more/nflarrests/index.html).
So this is Porters first offense. Eitherway I guess we'll see whose right when the Commissioner does suspend Porter. Anything else is just speculation...
He cant suspend for any conduct detrimental but violent or criminal conduct he can.
There doesnt have to be an arrest for criminal activity to have occurred. The dogs killing the horse is considers a second degree misdemeanor. So that dog incident should be considered his first criminal offense.
but regardless of that debate you're right we have to wait and see what the commisioner does. I have a feeling that the suspension (if any) will be more along the lines of what you are suggesting . Especially after reading this in peter kings column:
8. I think it's going to be interesting to see how far Levi Jones pushes his dissatisfaction with getting roughed up by Joey Porter's buddies in Las Vegas. If he had let it die, or settled with Porter quietly, I bet the NFL would have called it a no-harm, no-foul incident. But with the possibility of a civil suit here, the NFL may have no choice but to suspend Porter for a game or two. With a tough opening slate (at Washington, Dallas, at the Jets), and Miami's offense behind the 8-ball with its quarterback dilemma, the Dolphins will need Porter to get off to a strong September start.

Yes, Goodell can suspend Porter for any length of time he wants to. But let's be realistic anything more than 4 games will be appealed by the NFLPA and unlike Pacman, Porter would stand a good chance of winning the appeal if he was suspended for 8 games or more.
That is why I kept harping on the repeat offender issue.
Hopefully Levi does bring up the civil suit against Porter. Porter shouldn't be able to just slide with a one game suspension for this one. Maybe Goodell's punishment is what Levi is waiting on to decide whether or not to sue Porter...

I agree with you i doubt there will even be a four game suspension. You are probably right about levi waiting. He doesnt seem like the type that would sue for the sake of sueing but if he doesnt feel he gets justice from the commish he might. I was actually kinda suprised by Peter Kings comments.
I mean how he can say the nfl would have called it "a no-harm, no-foul incident" and use the phrase "his dissatisfaction with getting roughed up by Joey Porter's buddies" is beyond me. The way he downplays the incident and porters involvement is hard for me to understand.

On NFL live today, John Clayton was asked what is on Goodell's docket now that Tank Johnson has been dealt with. His response was that Goodell really only has AJ Nicholson left to deal with. He'll monitor the Michael Vick situation, but can't and won't do anything until the investigation is concluded. There was NO mention of Joey Porter whatsoever. I hope Clayton just forgot about it, but something tells me Porter will skate.
