You still have the same problem as us and that is,"you don't know what kind of team you have until you play the Patriots"because the Bears owned them just as badly last year.Granted the field was a piece of crap mud bowl with turf flying everywhere, but still it's the NFC.
Saints- NFC (blows monkeys balls defense)
Titians- Do they have a offense now? Or do they even have a defense without Pac man?
Houston- Should be a NFC team
Denver - Finally you might get a game
TB- Another monkey humper NFC team
Jax- Hey the finally have a QB that do well (Garrad)
Car- A some what better NFC team
NE- Here's where is it gets interesting
SD- LT wants his rings since he broke the td record
KC- Downward spiral for them
ATL- another monkey humper defense
Jag- see previous jag's statement
Bal- could be a interesting game or snooze fest
Oak- probably run all over them
Hou- joke
Ten- joke
Man I certainly hope the JAGS finally wake up and give some competition in the division because it's starting to look like the NFC NORTH.

I think we know the Colts have a pretty good team. (This franchise has only missed the playoffs twice in ten years!) To be blunt...I think we have a great team. Every team has questions....I think you can make that statement about all 32 teams.
Patriots....what is there Offense going to be like, is there D too old?
Ravens.....can they score points with McGhee?
Chargers....how is this team going to be with the coaching staff?
I would say you don't know what kind of team you have until week 10 anyway, so nothing you say is really earth shattering.
Yes...It will be interesting to see how the Rookie LT for the Colts plays when he goes against better talent. However, you know the Colts Offense will be one of tops in the league.....nothing new there. What it is news is the Colts D! They did not give up a touchdown to one of the most dangerous Offenses in the league! They have new guys starting that hit like a truck, tackle well, and blazing fast! They look to be playing at the same level they played through the playoffs. If they stay healthy and this continues, it's going to be a 3 horse race....Indy, NE, and SD!

Let me know when the Colts actually hold a team worthwhile that's not a lame NFC team. (New England) If they can hold a team like New England to 10 points then I'll be impressed, but that won't happen.
Do the math, the Saints got their typical averaged run yards per game of 110 yards (106 yards tonight) with tonights passing of 187 yards (averaged 289 yards per game). According to the average yards given up by passing The Colts are slipping a bit from that 169 yards allowed per game.
As for the knowing what kind of team the Bengals will be I will know for certain when they play the Patriots. Even the Seahawks game should show me what they have really because Shaun Alexander is going to run hard this year.

Agreed. I think the Colts D was nothing but impressive. For some people, it's never enough. They'll always find ONE petty imperfection in the game and exploit it. Let's face it, if the Bengals D held the Saints to 10 points we'd all be singing a much different tune. The offense shook off some rust at first and then was very impressive.
I'm glad to see Brees look so bad. Carson plays the Ravens defense and has 10x better games than this. EAT CROW PETER KING!

Seems to me that the Saints approached this game on offense the way the Bengals approached the Colts game last season on defense: play to the strength of the Colts.
The Bengals sat back defensively, not allowing Manning and the receivers to beat them deep. Of course, that doesn't do much good against a QB like Manning when you're not pressuring him, so they completely picked apart the D.
The Saints resigned themselves to short passes and waited for the big play to come from their running game. They have excellent runners, but they're not going to break a big run every game, especially when playing against a fast defense that is not getting pushed away from the line of scrimmage.
You've got to play to your own strengths against the Colts. It's difficult enough to beat them that way, but at least you would stand a better chance.

They looked real good.
But i just am not sold on the Saints like all the media jokes are. They are in the NFC and they got their butts kicked by AFC teams last year. Reggie Bush looks the same as he did last year and that is nothing special. He had more hype than mike vick comming into the league and I just don't see it. I saw him struggle when running the ball just like he did last year.
The Colts are too good of a team to lose to the Saints and should coast thru the reg season again this year.

You guys looked really good last night. I don't think Manning should have been on the field for that last TD...you already had a huge lead with only a few minutes to go and felt that was opening him up to risk of injury when you didn't have to - but he looked like, well, Peyton Manning. Fabulous.
The team you have problems with is a team you won't meet until the post season - Pittsburgh. Teams that sit back and let Manning pick them apart have trouble with you. They're afraid of your offense - we're not.
Still trying to figure out how one of your Dlineman stuck his finger in Bree's eye and didn't get a flag. I was under the impression that ANY time you hit a QB in the head - even if it's both incidental and accidental - it's a flag for 'roughing'. And since the Dlineman in question took the contact lens out of Bree's eye - at the very least he should have been flagged for a 5 yard face mask.
You do have a weakness, however. You're not that deep at the RB postition. You almost lost your starter on the 2nd play of the game. If he goes down injured, you could be in trouble.

09-07-2007, 11:24 AM
The game was sort of a tale of two halves. The Saints hung in there for the 1st half, but then the Colts came out and monkey-stomped them the entire second half. However, the Saints were so ridiculously conservative,it was frankly sad. David is a complete JOKE. They just kept throwing at him the entire game. You'd think the Saints would've adjusted and given him some help at least in the 2nd half.
The Colts definately look like a contender, however, they also look a little thin. If Addai or Clark go down,I think their offense is in real trouble.

Remember that time when the Steelers were playing the Oilers and one of the Oilers grabbed Mike Tomczak's face mask while he was on the ground and ripped back and forth violently? There was no flag, no nothing.. they played it over and over in the replay and the refs were completely oblivious.

Non-calls like that happen. There were also some obvious Holding penalties on the Saints against Freeney that the refs ignored as well. So it goes both ways.
Although the inconsistencies in the way the refs call holding penalties, I guess there is no obvious holding penalty anymore...

Gost....couple quick points if I may
1. By the letter of a the law, yes it should have been personal foul...you can't hit the QB in the head. That's what the rule book says.....
2. I agree with you, the ref missed it.....however, in the grand scheme of things it would have made no difference.
3. I appreciate you jumping in there and pointing this out to us. People, if you ever need an expert in illegal or dirty defensive line play that also specialize in questionable hits and season ending injuries, see Ghostwriter. As a Steeler fan, he has an unbelievable resume!

I'm not saying that the call would have made a difference. It wouldn't have. I was just pointing out that it was never called....
And since YOU brought up calls from 2005....
How about the only call that was so aweful that it is - to date - the ONLY call where the NFL had to issue an apology for...
I'm sure you remember it.....Troy Polamalu intercepted your boy in the playoff game in your house, it was ruled a pick on the field..and then Pete Morelli reversed it after taking 6 minutes under the hood (was only suppose to have 90 seconds) and you guys went on to get the TD and 2 point conversion.
You were given an 8 point gift from Morelli.
If not for that call....it's 21-10, and we have the ball on the 50 yard line.
How about that, Dr. H? The ONLY call the NFL has ever had to apoligize for was in YOUR house and helped YOUR team when they were suppose to be the team of the year.

My favorite part of the game is when David forced the fumble, ran it back for a TD, then did the ever-popular (and extremely unoriginal) "shhhh" pose to the crowd...you know the one, where the player is telling the crowd to be quiet. He then proceeded to give up a second and third TD later in the game.
If you truly want to quiet the crowd, you're either going to have to stop the opponent from scoring TDs or get one of your own for every one you give up. In hockey terms, Jason David was a -2 last night. Not good.

If the Colts had come out on opening night, with all the emotion of hanging their banner, and laid an egg against an inferior NFC team that would have surprised me. The Saints game plan was horrific, did they ever see how the Colts can be manhandled a-la the Chargers and Steelers games of '05?
The Saints aren't a very good football team, especially on defense. Their horrible pass D against the Colts sick passing O is a recipe for a snoozer of a game, kudo's to the brilliant schedule maker for that one.
Manhandling a team you should have manhandled doesn't deserve any special kudo's or "atta boys".

Good analysis. I hope we learned our lesson.
The teams that are - let's just say it - afraid of the Colts offense get picked apart. Teams that go after Peyton....get him out of the pocket (where his effectiveness drops to 33%), hit the WR's (throws off the timing) and disguise their blitzes and coverages until the last second before the snap, do well.
If you look at the teams that beat the Colts (Chargers, Steelers, Jags) they have attacking defenses and great running games. Keep Manning on the bench where he can't hurt you.

If you really felt that way, it seems that your time would be better spent on one of those message boards.
