http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2893597 New England Patriots (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=nwe) cornerback Asante Samuel (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6456) says he won't show up for the team's mandatory minicamp, starting Tuesday. Or training camp this summer. Or the first 10 weeks of regular season games.
"I'm not coming to camp. I'm not showing up until the 10th week [of the season]. I feel unappreciated. The way they're treating me is just wrong."
Good news for us, since we play the Patriots in week 4...

I don't think this will really happen. I think they'll get a contract worked out eventually. Players will start avoiding New England if they see that they won't shell out money towards their players.
I wonder if someone will actually trade away 2 1st round picks to get Samuel like Seattle did with Branch last year.

God i hate players like this just play with your team until your time is up.Im glad we never made a move at this moron.
I would be glad though to see him not in the game we play them against.

Not really surprised this happened. All the money they've been coughing up for big name players, someone had to get the short end of the stick.
BB wont put up with temper tantrums, though. I would expect his reaction to be, "Fine. Have a seat. And I still wont play you in week 10."

I hope he gets nothing, just shut up and play the game. He is one heck of an athlete and also a DB but there are rookies that would love to play in his place and for about 1/8 the price they pay for him.

The issue is as it always has been for the Patriots is that they won't reward their own players. Although I'm not going to shed any tears for Asante he has a legit argument.
The Patriots this offseason spent a lot of money on FA such as Adiaus Thomas but a player like Asante who played great for them last season they won't pay.
The other issue is the Franchise Tag is the worst idea the NFL came up with (In terms of contracts). As well all have seen last season with the Bengals, injuries can happen very easily. This isn't baseball or basketball the chance of getting injured in the NFL is fairly high. It's not that these players are holding out to get an extra 1 or 2 million a season, they are mainly holding out because they want a guaranteed long term contract...
