In the Senate?

In the House?

Senate:

Jim Inhofe (R-OK) is definitely one of the worst.

House:

Jean Schmidt (R-OH) is my least favorite...

but I'd say the worst is a tie between James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) who's an absolute fascist, and William Jefferson (D-LA) who should've been kicked out of Congress years ago.

I dont know about Jefferson, but I totally agree with you on Sensenbrenner.

Really? Jefferson's home was raided and they found thousands of dollars of cash from bribes... in his freezer. Although that might also indicate he's a total badass.

I meant I didnt know who he was, not that I didnt think he wasn't bad. But now that you tell me what he did, then I agree.

It's amazing how he nearly gets indicted and yet the people of his district choose to reelect him.

I've never been a big fan of the Boehner. I don't care for Senator Byrd either. I read somewhere that Byrd was the worst in terms of pork barrel spending as well. Jesse Helms is long gone, but he was a real turd.

I don't live in her district, but I'm a huge fan of Schmidt. She stands up for what she believes and isn't afraid to go against the "majority opinion" if she doesn't believe it is right. Sure, some of her specific decisions aren't ones that I agree with, but I feel that if more politicians acted the way she does (less worried about money or being popular among the lobbyists) we'd be in better shape.

Just my $.02 worth.

Byrd from W.Va? I just heard he went into the hospital. I pray for his health.

That being said, he obviously isn't in a condition to be a good politician at this stage in the game. Re-electing an individual because of their history and name are something we need to leave up to the Brits:shock:

Senate: Mitch McConnell (R - KY)

House: Jean Schmidt (R - OH)

Worthy candidates for the title(s). As Eleden's post hints, there are (sadly) many other worthy candidates.

A few years ago, I would have said Chris Chocola (R - IN), but he's no longer in office. He's the definition of working for the lobbyists and lying to the people - every commercial he ever ran for re-election stated his position in direct opposition to his voting record.

Now, though, I'll definitely jump on board with Sensenbrenner and Jefferson. And, I'll add Daniel Akaka (D - HI), Wayne Allard (R - CO), and Jim Bunning (R - KY). A few years ago TIme magazine ranked them in the 5 worst senators ever.

My least favorite Senator would have to be Mitch McConnell (R-KY). His vehement opposition to the McCain-Feingold Bill (Campaign Finance Reform) and some of his hypocrisy in relation to the power of the President between someone of his own party (Bush) and someone from the other party (Clinton) astounds me (I know I'm naive to still be astounded by partisanship from any member of either party).

Robert Byrd - former Klansman, current nutcase.
Ted Kennedy - allowed a woman to die of drowning in his car

Both are pretty bad policy-wise too.

To be fair, I think Robert Byrd has always been a nutcase, not just currently ;)

Second the motion for Bunning being one of worst ever - strangely he was beloved throughout the Commonwealth. Why? Not for a damn thing he ever did for his constituents. He was beloved because he pitched for the Cincinnati Reds. What a country!

Actually up until a few years ago Byrd was giving some of the better speeches on the House floor. Now the chamber empties every time he speaks per a Washington page because it is just comical when he takes the microphone. People leave because they don't want to be disrespectful but it is just too hard not to laugh at him. He is the poster child for term limits, a position formerly held by Strom Thurmond who went out in much the same way Byrd is - drooling on himself and rambling incoherently. It is really sad that they are allowed to embarrass themselves and the political process in that way. I think old people are great and deserve to treated with dignity, but part of that is not letting them humiliate themselves in public - isn't it? Where are their friends and families? I guess they outlived them all but there really should be an intervention for Mr. Byrd.

There have been serious rumors that he's senile/mentally unstable. He's fairly gaffe-prone and consistently wins narrow reelection campaigns. Hopefully he'll retire soon...

Yeah, Bunning's a joke. I remember in his last campaign it was said that he..... errr..... wasn't exactly all there due to advancing age. I agree that he makes it in b/c of his sports background.

It seems to me like the only thing Schmidt can do is stick her foot in her mouth and embarrass the people of my district.

First she gets booed by Congress:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8FZ_nxmf0Y (It doesn't look like she's sticking to her guns when she apologizes later on)

Then she plagiarized work written by another Congresswoman:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/09/07/gop-rep-schmidt-caught-pl_n_63484.html

While running for office she also lied about the number of degrees she had from University of Cincinnati.

I wouldn't call her the worst Congressman/woman... but she's definitely my least favorite. I don't take kindly to consistent liars.

On a brighter note... SNL's parody of her was absolutely hilarious.

Robert Byrd HAS to be the worst Senator currently. Hands down. The guy squeels he's written so much pork into law. Ever been through West VA? Everything is named after this guy. It's sickening. I think his middle name is "pork barrel".

On the house side, man... where to begin? I could name 10 that are top candidates there. I personally can't stand the ones who vote for every spending bill. Then to compound it all with corruption is just ugly.

My favorites are the ones who claim to be "budget hawks" yet vote for giving billions of dollars to the quagmire in Iraq.

Better yet, the Democrats who claimed they'd do something in Iraq... and then did absolutely nothing.

That's par for the course in Louisiana. Seriously,it's the most politically corrupt state in the US. Another one of their Congressmen commandeered a Coast Guard chopper to get personal effects out of his home while the Katrina rescues were going on. Louisiana Democrats are the worst of the worst.

Louisiana Republicans aren't much better. Senator David Vitter was caught "purchasing" a prostitute.

Both parties are absolutely corrupt in that state.

Wow there are so many corrupt ones even after the corruption flush of the Abramoff scnadal...

The all time worst and biggest hypocrite is probably Senator Larry Craig (R-ID)

House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) is also pretty bad

There are tons of corrupt ones (including Jefferson - that idiot who they set up and he took the bait) but most of the corrupt ones are republican. Corruption is pretty much a republican modus operandi. Maybe McCain will change that, but he is kind of old. I don't know if he will change the republican party or the republican party will hide behind him.

LOL and the people keep re-electing them even after they are caught red handed. It's like Mayor Marion Berry. WHY would you vote for that guy? Are people really that blind?

I'm with you on Barry. I have no idea why that guy is back on the city council. I run into people every once in a while who think he has been the best mayor in recent d.c. history. In his defense, d.c. hasn't had the best string of mayors. Fenty looks like he has the chance to be decent, I guess we'll see.

I'm not qualified to speak about American politicians, but my least favourite Member of the British Parliament is George Galloway MP, quite simply because he's off his ****ing rocker...
