WoW
I must say, as of late I'm leaning more and more towards Ron Paul. Obama putting Clinton on the ticket as VP will definately turn me away from him and McCain just isn't Republican enough for my liking.
How can we get more people interested inRon Paul so that a vote for him means something. Last thing I want to do is give a vote to Obama/Clinton by not voting for McCain. What to do what to do?

Not sure if you understood me....The Ron Paul part was not wishing he were on the Obama ticket. I believe he is still campaigning to be ont he ballot as a 3rd party candidate.

See, I actually like this quote. To me, it says we are going to make a great country even better. I have an awesome marriage, and my wife and I are always trying to change it for the better. Both ideas work for me.

Though that is probably what he meant, the wording isn't supporting it IMHO. I hear what you are saying, but if I were to make that statement I would use "improve" or "progress" instead of "change".
IE:
"My wife and I are very happy in our marriage but we are constantly trying to improve our relationship."

I see your point, but with the word "change" being a big part of his campaign and ideals, I think that is the reason for using the word. While I don't disagree with your alternate word choices, the word change is a neutral word, meaning "to make different in some particular". Sadly, the word "change" has been given a bad connotation due to people's fear of change, something that is fed by the government and media.

Right, and Like i said, in first reading I knew what he meant....but I also saw it humorous knowing how it sounds.

I am with Barry on this one. The president has the lowest appoval rating of all time. I think we all want some changes.

While I do not agree with a good handful of things over the past 8 years, I also see that congress has a lot more power than the president in my opinion and they sure as heck aren't making much positive progress. Given the field of McCain and Obama, I'd personally take W. Bush for another 4 years. Just my opinion though....and I can definately understand, just not agree with, those who hate him as much as many on these boards do.

A change in president means more than one position changing, though. You get a new V.P., new cabinet members, etc. With all the things that have gone on the past 8 years, I'm all for fresh blood. To me, even with good presidents, more than 2 terms could lead to more and more misuse of power (a reason I'm for term limits in the house and senate, as well). In the end, while I think congress does have a lot of power, it's a mistake to dismiss the equal power the executive branch holds.

To expand on your point a bit. Obama to me holds the best chance of changing the dynamics in D.C. Simply by appointing new cabinet members and new heads of various government organizations. The reason I say this is if you look at the other two candidates (I'll still consider Hillary for the time being):
Clinton: Although she is a Democrat, we will probably get a lot of the same people from her husband's administration. She owes favors to too many of the same people Bill did.
McCain: He is considered to be the "great Neocon hope" by certain people. Because of this, I see him having a similar administration to Bush and similar philosophies (such as the expansive definition of the powers of the Executive Branch).
Obama on the other hand has had to go against a lot of the old stock of the Democratic Party. So, in my opinion, he would be able to infuse the Executive Branch with a slightly different philosophy and new blood.
Maybe I should look for a new job in January and try to hitch myself to the Obama Administration.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think that Ron Paul is running as a third party candidate...yet. I think that he is still a nominee in the Republican primaries, despite the fact that McCain is the presumptive nominee.
If he does run third party, I think that Paul will be hurt by some of the other big name third party candidates who are out there. Bob Barr has a chance to take a lot of the libertarian leaning Republicans and Ralph Nader will scoop up some of the left. And Barr has a chance of being the "Ralph Nader" of 2008 because of those on the right who do not find themselves in agreement with a lot of McCain's social policies.
Does anyone know why Paul didn't run for the Libertarian ticket?

It is a bogus (http://urbanlegends.about.com/b/2008/03/11/quoth-obama.htm) quote. Apparently lying about Obama (http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/50lies.asp) is all in vogue in certain circles right now.

zotquix is right, all the outlandish criticisms about Obama are desperate attempts by the dirty Republicans to undermine his campaign. And furthermore, they are unwarranted. Nothing anyone says about Obama that is critical of him, is taken in the proper context. That's what I believe:thumbsup:

I would just as easily take issue with someone saying "Well McCain endorses eating babies," and then sending photoshopped pictures of McCain with a forkful of baby to a million people.
My point is, its a lie and its the sort of lie people should've seen through. I mean...my god, who believes anything they get in a chain email? :dunce:

I did not know it was bogus, but it certainly sounds like something a political candidate would say and not think of the context of the word "change" (instead of "improve" as a prior poster posted). The same thing could be said of George W. as we have a lot more "sound bites" and mispronunciations and contextual words out of place. People love this kind of stuff. It's shallow and easy to pick on... and in this case easy to dupe people (including myself... I didn't check on the validity of this quote).
We need to stop this incessant picking of people apart and look at the real workings of our political machines. Who cares if someone mispronounces nuclear? Even if Obama did say this, it's humorous, but there was no intended malice. People need to get over these petty issues of all the candidates, and stop holding them to a level of perfection which none of us have attained.
