The beginning of greatness, this Friday.

Ladies, Gentlemen and everyone and everything in between...Homer Bailey is set to start Friday's game in Cincinnati.

All I can say is...It's about time.

I think this is a pretty stupid move on the Reds' part, financially speaking. They are playing Cleveland (in-state rivals and a good team); it is a Friday night; it is Bronson Arroyo hat night. All threee of these would guarnatee a large crowd. Why would you waste a guaranteed sellout on that night, instead of using him on a Monday or Tuesday when the crowd would be much smaller?
As a (bandwagon) fan, I like it. (I don't follow baseball unless the Reds are doing well. I enjoy gonig to the games for the atmosphere, but am not a fan enough to watch an entire game on TV).
Basically, it's good for fans, but bad for Castellini's bottom line.

I don't think this is a good idea either...... But not for the same reason you think...... Homer Bailey may get 20 wins........ But that won't be enough to get us into playoffs....... We need another starter, a long relief pitcher and a closer.....

That makes no sense.

Who would you bring up from AAA to be a reliever. We already have 3 rookies in the 'pen. And Bailey is one of the three you've listed.

We DON'T need a long reliever. We have 2 (Saarloos and Santos).

And of course he won't get us into the playoffs. He pitches once every 5 days.

As for teh Friday night thing, it's to give Belisle an extra day off after a long outing in the Denver air, the initial move was to make Bailey the starter on Saturday. I think this is good because he still gets a day of extra rest and will go again in the middle of the week next week. Sure they'll still sell out, but he had no other choice than to start him Friday or Saturday, and they wanted to give Belisle an extra day. Now it'll go from a 25-30K affair to a sell out...Or real darn close.

My cousin scored tickets for this and we are sitting out in the right field four rows from the ground.
Homer Bailey is a great pitcher, he is going to be a bright star in our rotation for a long time.
The problem is with our rotation is...
Aaron Harrang- Right Handed
Bronson Arroyo- Right Handed
Kyle Lohse- Right Handed
Matt Belisle- Right Handed
Homer Bailey- Right Handed

Wait...
Right Handed all 5 of our pitchers?
When most teams actually have, I dunno 2 left handed starters?

Give me skill over a "conventional rotation" any day of the week. It's the same reason I don't mind 4 left-handed batters. Dunn can hit homers regardless, Griffey and Hamilton are jsut skilled hitters, and Hatte just sprays liners into the outfield.

Of course I'd prefer the proper mix, but it's not a big deal when you have Arroyo's breaking pitch (whenever he decides to fix it), Harang's consistency and wanting to go 9 innings every time he starts. Combine that with the skill of Bailey and the way Belisle looks to be a #2 on any rotation and that's 4 great righties for many, many years. Give me that over what they've had from 2002-2006 ANY day of the week.
