Israel stunned the world by launching a pre-emptive strike on the airforces of Egypt, Syria and Jordan. Israeli air strikes caught most of the Arab planes on the ground (which required some planning!) and gave way to the Six Day war.
I don't know if anyone else here is a history buff but it's pretty amazing to read about what the IDF accomplished against the military forces of their three larger enemy neighbors in a matter of six days.
The only down side for Israel was that afterwards they were looked upon by many as a bully. I can't agree with this reasoning but that's a different story.

I was just finishing 5th grade. Nasser was the pre-eminent Arab of his day and he bit on the Soviet's Breznev's false information that the Israeli's had amased some troops on the Syrian border so Egypt sent a mssive force into the Sinai. They also closed the Straits of Tiran which was vital to Israel as a nation and we agreed to defend their rights to the passage.
It has been debated that President Johnson did not give the green light as we were embroiled in an abyss in Southeast Asia but it wasn't red either. The Israeli's Yitzak Rabin had a great strategy and Israel launched an air attack against Egypt's airbases and basically took out their airforce while they were on the ground. Without air superiority the Egyptian ground forces were going to fight a losing battle. On the second day they took out Jordan's airforce and the third Syria's. If I remember right the Israeli's killed 25 to every 1 casualty they suffered.
A great victory for a tiny nation with their backs against the wall and their right to exist on the table.
