Thank you for finally proving you have absolutely no scientific knowledge whatsoever. No where in that video (you'd probably know that if you watched it) did she say anything about Global Warming. The destruction of the ozone isn't caused by greenhouse gases, it's caused by CFC's. A substance which has now been phased out due to proven scientific research showing their harmful effects on the environment.

And are you really mocking the belief that CFC's are harmful? An idea that has near universal support by the entire scientific community, world governments, and even some of the most conservative minds in America? Nevermind that though, after all you and President Bush are the leading experts on the environment. <_<

Maybe that 13 year old should teach you a few science lessons.

By the way I wasn't using that video for any agenda. I merely thought it was amazing that a young articulate child cared so much about the planet and the generation of people growing up with her. Of course leave it to you to completely distort my intentions... If anything, mocking the good intentions of children is reprehensible.

This 13 year old has more sense than 90% of the politicians in this country! It's very crazy that we got money for wars but can't feed the poor. We have a war going on right here in this country. The fight to end/help poverty, mortgage crisis, gas prices, prescription/healthcare crisis, and the war going on each and every day in the poverty stricken neighborhoods. The black and brown wars on each other and their own is simply genocide at its best. Now there's a few problems our government should be tackling instead of Iraq! Kudos for that girl she has a BIG heart!

How can you even begin to think this video is funny? Is it because she says funny things like "If you don't know how to fix something, stop breaking it"? Or perhaps because she actually points out facts, and how everyone is caring about now and not the future? This video is not in the least bit funny - I am in awe of this girl and her amazing remarks.

The problem is nothing is broken .....scientist back in the 70's said we better take care of the environment because if we didn't we were facing an ice age and when that didn't happen they went to the 'global warming'..which is not happening ...scientist can't predict what the weather will be like 15 days from now let alone 15 years from now ...and since i stopped the video at the animals maybe 'global warming ' produced this ..

I'm sorry, but there is a big difference between the work of meteorologists and the scientists who have/are researching global warming. There is a vast gulf in educational levels, their fields of study, and I'm assuming global warming researchers don't have as nice of hair as meteorologists.

This talk was about more than global warming (if it was even about that at all). It was about politicians saying one thing and doing another. It was about thinking about the future as much or more than the present. Try watching the whole thing, instead of just the first 30 seconds and picking that apart. A lot is broken - and this girl does a great job of pointing it out.

I never said it was all his fault... if you go back in my comments throughout this year, you'll see I've bashed multiple politicians including some key Democrats. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, John McCain, Nancy Pelosi, Jean Schmidt, and Donald Rumsfeld are a few key ones I've had complaints about.

I'm sure you'll understand my total contempt for President Bush, and including him in my last comment made sense since he's done absolutely nothing to address the environmental problems this planet is facing. He's relaxed environmental protections set in place by previous presidents (including his father) and much more. (I'd say something about Global Warming but if GA9 tries to pretend he's funny one more time... I'm committing suicide).

No I don't blame him for everything... but he's done enough to cover the next three Presidents. <_<

Of course she bored them to death. Do you honestly think these people care if they're doing the right thing? There's money to made in screwing over the younger generations by destroying the planet.

I'm not honestly surprised by your answer... You have nothing to lose by destroying the planet but 50-100 years from now this planet will look a whole lot different then it does now. The rainforests will be gone, the environment in ruins, and the air we breathe even more polluted than it is now. Go spray your aeresol can if you must but remember that actions have consequences... consequences that will be delivered to your children's children.

This speech was from 1992. It's too bad that many have turned a deaf ear before, since and still to this day. Just ignoring the problems that someone else will inherit is the way most governments and many citizens act.

Frankly, I doubt the word of Greenpeace. Do you have something from a source that may be a little bit less biased, or at least where show where Greenbeace is getting their info from?

And that's just 1 aspect of those end of the world disasters you mentioned. Where's anybody saying the environment will be in ruins, and the air we breathe will be even more polluted than it is now in 50-100 years?

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying we need to go out there and pollute the environment or that we shouldn't strive to be more green, but I think exaggerating claims and using scare tactics is not the way to go.

Almost 60% of the region's forests could be wiped out or severely damaged by 2030, as a result of climate change and deforestation, according to a report published today by WWF.

The "point of no return", in which extensive degradation of the rainforest occurs and conservation prospects are greatly reduced, is just 15-25 years away - much sooner than some models suggest, the report warns.

Releasing the report at the UN conference in Bali, which aims to begin negotiations on a new international climate change deal, the WWF called for a strategy to reduce emissions from forests and stop deforestation.

This, of course, is the same thing you ignored the last time you posted that verse in a global warming thread - even though this isn't a global warming thread. I'm not even saying he is lying here. This earth has been through ice ages before. All the things mentioned in the verse you mentioned have continued, even through them. Global warming can still be happening, and your verse can still hold true - they are indeed not mutually exclusive. Your continued use of that verse to disprove global warming continues to hold no ground.

Now, can we get back to the original topic of this thread or what?!?!?

Your not going to win this arguement Barry.....simply because GA9 is not even discussing the same thing. I still haven't figured out what he's trying to argue about. But the quoting of scripture sure helps to proove his point

There is an answer in the Bible for that to ..God makes things so simple but man has a tendency to really screw things up ..
Chronicles 7:14:
14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

No ****, Sherlock.

But the righteous doesn't necessarily mean Christian and doesn't necessarily mean ignorant to science.

All right Jamie, since debating with GA9 is pointless, because you get nothing but a bible lesson, instead of a intelligent, intellectual debate and/or conversation..........I have to ask....Who the heck are the guys with the flowers in your sig? I've been dying to ask for a while

For starters, it isn't just what you thought it would be. You went on for pages saying it was about Global Warming. And since it isn't, the video is not "just what you thought it to be".

Beyond that, I was unaware that the purpose of this thread was for you to attempt to prove the authenticity or relevance of the bible to this speech. No one but you has injected religion into this thread (in an extremely futile way, may I add), and no one has even claimed that this girls speech negates anything.

In the end, while I in no way mean to refute the bible in anyway, it's really easy to take the scripture you are quoting, apply it to this, and say "look, the bible predicts this!". In the end, that is simply your interpretation. I could do the same thing by finding a story about someone killing a toll booth worker on a Sunday and saying "The Lord answered to this":

Exodus 35:2
"For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.".

But in doing so, it wouldn't really be relevant, would it.

Can we, once again, get back to the subject at hand?!?!:wacko:

Actually I'm not a bitter person at all, I started making sarcastic comments when you stopped debating intelligently and just started spouting scripture. Until you stop that nonsense no one will take you sereiously. Barryllium is christian and has faith, yet he seems to bring a logical and intelligent arguement to the table. I have no problem with your faith, but trying to use it as proof when we're not even debating religion, IS idiotic, I don't understand why you do it.

I understand where you're coming from and believe me I'm not trying to use scare tactics (just something I believe in).

I'm off to work but here are some more articles on the destruction of the rainforest

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article3245635.ece

http://www.coolearth.org/306/what's-new-32/news-155/amazon-rainforest-destruction-surges-356.html

National Geographics January 2007 edition stated that at the current rate 40% of the rainforest will be gone in the next two decades. I'll try to find a link if possible.

I have to go now but I'll post some more during my break at work.
don't worry, the so called "scare tactics" don't work...they are overblown tactics that hold no water....fact is the united states has more woodlands today than they did over 100 years ago, but your greenpeace folks and others like Al Gore conviently don't talk about that among other things, they'd rather just try and scare everyone with falsehoods.

something funny about this entire thread is, the speech was made over a decade ago but you and others believed it was made this year and is new. Doesn't seem like the earth has burned up in an atomic flame like they would like you to believe it would.

I think we should take care of the enviroment better, butthe extreme leftist who try and use scare tactics without an ounce of fact to back up their claims has gotten real old and it actually does just the opposite...instead of believing we are in trouble its more like the kid who cried wolf one too many times.

This stuff goes back to the 60's my friend.....we were supposed to be all burned up because of the holes in the ozone layer etc. we were supposed to be living in a world with no natural resources left etc. seems we are doing just fine some 40 years later. so when you say in 50-100 years we will be doomed makes me laugh.

sorry, but it's just another way to cry wolf.

Even though I did know the speech was made in 1992 (it was hard to miss the huge "Rio de Janeiro 3-14 June 1992" banner behind her), that doesn't change one huge fact - things have either not changed or gotten worse since 1992 as far as the "live for now, screw the future" idea that the girl is speaking about. You can talk all you want about how people ignore some facts (like having more woodlands today than 100 years ago), or how people have been saying these things since the 60's - but that doesn't mean that simply because things aren't happening now proves we aren't headed in that direction. While the speech spoke of things like holes in the ozone layer (caused by CFC's, something that has been taken care of) and whatnot, her focus was that governments around the world are so concerned with now that they forget about the future - something that can be seen with America's ridiculous demand on oil, how far we continue to be behind the world with mileage standards, how we spend money now with complete disregard to the continued economic effects on our country, and other things of that ilk.

To say that this is just another way to cry wolf completely misses the point of the speech by pulling out specific words used.
