where the term "mistake by the lake" comes from? I am obviously not in or from Ohio so I have never really known why Cleveland is called that. I probably should know seeing as how it is my duty to despise the Browns. Although, since I have been a Bengals fan since, well you know, I grew up here in Anchorage and never really paid attention to rivalries until I was about 18 ('98). So in all honesty, I don't despise the Browns. I have really only recently had my despise of certain teams take form, except for the 49ers. I hate them. The Steelers are number two (goes without saying) and the Browns aren't really that big of a rival for me personally, undoubtedly because I didn't grow up in Ohio. I was just wondering how deep the hatred for the Browns is with those of you who grew up in Ohio and where does the term "mistake by the lake" come from? Thanks for your input and I look forward to reading your answers.

Cleveland borders Lake Erie, hence the "by the lake" reference. The rest is pretty self explanitory.

Cleveland has the Cuyahoga River that runs through it and at one time it caught on fire. As a city they almost went bankrupt. They are the losingist sports city in the country and Cleveland is one of the nastiest cities to be in in the country. As said Cleveland is on Lake Erie hence the Mistake on the Lake. And as a added bonus they get upset about that moniker so we use it.

Not to mention the foul stench of that place!! It kinda reminds me of wet dog, mixed with a high-school locker room, a touch of *****, and baby throw up! [+o(]
I'd rather smell my uncle's week old colostamy bag and Ben-Gay 24 hours a day than spend an hour in Cleveland.[;)][W][:'(] Makes my eyes water just thinking about it... if you'll excuse me, I've gotta go vomit. If I'm not back in 20 minutes... just wait longer.
