The fate of Barry Bonds (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=3918)' record-breaking home-run ball is now in the public's hands after its buyer announced Monday he was taking votes on whether to give the ball to the Hall of Fame, brand it with an asterisk or blast it into space.

Fashion designer Mark Ecko revealed himself as Saturday's winning bidder in the online auction for the ball that Bonds hit last month to break Hank Aaron's all-time home-run record of 755. The final selling price for No. 756 was $752,467, well above most predictions.

Ecko had not even taken possession of the ball before posting a Web Site that lets visitors vote on which of the three outcomes they think the ball most deserves.
He said he plans to announce the final tally after voting ends Sept. 25.

I find it hard to believe that it would somehow actually wind up in orbit. Someone would wind up snagging that thing. Definitely burn the asterisk into it then have some contract written with Cooperstown that if they do want to display it, the mark must be clearly visible.

I thought about that if they did decide to send it into orbit.
You know someone would try to locate the ball.
But I just dont see how w/o money and technology.

I'm all for the asterisk and displaying it in the HOF.
Nice play Mark Ecko

Another way to put it in him. . . . . .

I wonder if they can liquidate the ball and inject it into him using his own tools ?

I just meant that since he suggested something about sending it up in a shuttle, I'm sure that Ecko himself wouldn't be on the ship unless he pulls a Lance Bass. So figured one of the people responsible for getting rid of that thing would just hang on to it.

Its all good , just saying IF they did put into orbit , someone would have to have some Money to locate it.
And your probaly right , people are greedy.

I read where Bonds said about Ecko, "He's stupid. He's an idiot." If Bonds called me names like that, I'd probably cry my eyes out for a week.

Yeah , I read that story.

I bet Ecko wants to put that * asterik * on there no matter what the voting turns out to be now.
