View Full Version : What do we need?

I think it all depends on what we do during the off-season.

Current positions we need (in order from most imporant to least important):

1-Offensive linemen: Willie's getting old, and I think we might need to get a 1st round offensive linemen that is reliable.

2-Running back: Kenny Watson may be starting next week, or at least getting a lot more playing time, once Perry's back we should be good. But if they don't do the best throughout the season, we might need to get a power back.

3-Linebackers: Our linebacker core is extremely shallow, but they continue to impress me, making good plays 99% of the time. But it's deffinitly something we should look at.

There's are the area's we should work on trying to fix, a lot of you will say TE, but I've been impressed with our TE's and honestly dont think it's a major factor as of right now.

Thoughts?

We need to draft D-fence D-fence D-fence DL-DE-LB and quit drafting QB-RB's we don't need.

Our last 2 1st round draft picks have been defense. i think o-line should be considered, and maybe a LB.

IMO, we don't need d-line.

I say go with D in the offseason. Nate Clements was going where the money was...Instead, we tagged J-Smith <.<

This year, with J-Smith most likely gone, I say go after Albert Haynesworth. Sure, he tried to kick a guys head in last year, but he plays relentless, and that's something this D needs. Rather than someone teaching them how to sing "Kumbaya", they need a player who will teach them how to tackle someone and make them not want to touch the ball.

Then, I think we need to go with a WR in something like the 3rd round. Let's say Keenan Burton who I think is oging to be a hidden gem in the 2008 draft.

1st round NEEDs to be spent on a safety to compliment Madieu as he progresses, or replace him if he continues to struggle. A few players that should get some consideration are Curtis Taylor, CRAIG STELTZ, DARIEN WILLIAMS, and Jonathon Hafney.

If they finally decide to draft a TE, Tamme should slip into the 2nd and maybe 3rd round.

I just hope they don't draft another injury-proned player at good value (see Rafael Little on the 2nd day) and essentially losing that pick forever...

1. Defensive line - they have no pass rush

2. Linebacker - a replacement for Landon Johnson who leaves via free agency.

3. Offensive line - Stacy Andrews will also leave via free agency

I think our d-line has played pretty well. Except for the Browns game.

Is it possible to draft at defensive coordinator?

"With the 18th pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, The Cincinnati Bengals select Bud Foster, Defensive Coordinator, Virginia Tech."

hehehe,
In all seriousness, it usually too early for me to comment on these things, but we have needed to draft a top of the DE or DT for awhile now.

i think our first round pick should be a DE...i think smith is gone after this year....after that 2 and 3 linebackers....4th maybe a wide reciever or a catching tight end....5 and up fill out the D and hope maybe 1 or 2 stick (DT, safties, cbs)

We don't need a safety at all.

Justin Smith is leaving after this year and out D-Line can't get any pressure on the QB at all leaving our DBs out to dry covering guys for much longer than they're supposed to.

I agree. I'm also going with the look, get the best player out of those 3 positions when we get our 1st round pick.

Looks like we might have a high 1st round pick this year if things don't turn around.

Eric, do you think it's possible they tagged J-Smith because they plan on having Pollack back for next season in his place?

Just something to wonder...

I hope so... but I really don't think J. Smith is the answer tagged or not. I would love to see Pollack come back in whatever capacity but especially as a pass rusher. Can you imagine Pollack and Brooks rushing from the line on passing downs?

I don't know why everyone hates Justin Smith. I mean he's not the best, but he could be far worse. I think the D-line in general needs to step it up.

I love J-Smith...But 8M+ could be put to better use...

See Adalius Thomas or Nate Clements

Everyone loves J. Smith because he's a "hard worker" and a "team-player" neither of which mean much to almost every LT in the league...

I really believe we should go after DE in round 1 also since Smith won't be around. We should also think about going after Albert Hanynswerth. Then back to the offensive line since Willie is getting older and who knows how long Levi's knee will hold up.

I could see us possibly going DB.

I could see Madieu asking too much, and the Bengals not having enough faith in Marvin or Duke to fullfill that role.

LB- If O'dell can come back, and Dhani Jones plays solid, you know what Landon Johnson can do so we need to sign him long term, LB is shallow and weak, This has to be the number 1 priority.

D-Line- You can get steals in this draft on D-Line. This is the most depthed position.

I read a mock draft that the guy said we will take RAY RICE, RB out of RUTGERS.

ha, thats like saying we are going to get DeShaun Jackson, Andre Woodson or Darren McFadden!

I personally say if Jake Long is somehow available, we take him in a heart second.

Games are won and lost in the trenches. The Bengals are 1-3. OL and DL seem like obvious choices IMO.

I think we should go DT in 1st - DE in 2nd - LB in 3rd and then what ever.

Sounds like a plan. Although i think that y'all should go for BPA at a position of need in the 1st (OL, DL, LB) LBs often have a lot of sleeper picks falling to 4th and 5th round so hopefully y'all can pick up one of those and solidify the trenches with your first 3 picks.

If Pollack is back and playing next year (presumably at DE and Justin Smith is gone):

1st: LB
2nd: DT
3rd: OL (unless we resign Stacey Andrews)
3rd if we resign Andrews: DE or LB

If Pollack doesn't come back(and Smith is gone):
1st: DE
2nd: LB
3rd: DT
4th: OL

Ruki Motomiya

1 - LB, unless there is a major D-Liner on the board
2 - DT/DE, unless we took one in the first, in which LB
3 - O-Line. For protection
4 - TE/WR, for either an actual PASS CATCHING Tight End or a Third Option
5 - BPA
6 - BPA
7 - BPA

I think we need to focus on our D Line. I don't think they're equiped to stop the run or rush the passer. If you beef up the line, it eases the burden on the LBs and DBs as well.

I would invest heavily on the D Line early. In the middle rounds, I'd look for some developmental offensive lineman and some of those LB-DE tweeners who can get to the QB.

Our TE's *****, we need a passing catching te. Look at the bears after last year draft. we need a te like that. first rd pick is a te rest of is defense maybe a OL. If mervin would get off his ***** and go for free agents and stop rolling the dice on the draft. We wouldn't be in this hole we have dug our self into.
