Wow a UK fan in September! What the **** is the world coming to, not only do I have to hear them in the winter now I have to hear them in the fall. Enjoy you success right now but do not start knocking the Buckeyes and the Big Ten, you have no grounds and will not have anything until you prove something. You have been at the bottom of your conference for the last (lets just say 20+ years). Until you win your conference or a national championship then you can come out and talk smack.
Go Buckeyes
2007 "The Reload"
And yes I know the SEC is better than the Big Ten right now, but give it time and the Big Ten will catch up and pass them. If all it takes for the Buckeyes to get embarrassed by UF to change their offense to speed not power I will take it.

That's part of being overrated.
Who did they play in those bowls? I'm not sure and it is a serious question.

Exactly, the SEC gets automatic bids to the biggest bowls that aren't the top 4. And, typically, they play in at least two of the top 4 bowls.
UK beat Clemson
Florida killed OSU
LSU tore ND and Brady Quinn apart
Arkansas features the best RB and best #2
South Carolina has Steve Spurrier meaning they could win any week.
I contend that if they go to a playoff format, the "Final Four", every year, would be SEC, and, at least twice a decade, the championship game would have two SEC teams going against one another.
On the other hand...The Big Ten has OSU, that "unbeatable" team last year that only lost because of the "long layoff" (which means they got more rest than Florida...) and Michigan, who not only got beat up and torn apart by USC, but then suffered a loss to...
...APPALACHIAN STATE!
Big Ten:
Penn State - overrated (year in and year out)
Michigan - overrated
OSU - overrated (actually good last season)
Nebraska - overrated (year in and year out)
Come on. You can't contend with the SEC, and you Big Ten fans better thank your lucky stars the BCS is still in play...otherwise you'd actually have to play SEC teams to get your hands on a national title...

Yes, that was a questionable call in the '02 Fiesta Bowl, but don't try to feed me poo like OSU still didn't have to win that game. If Miami had taken care of business and stopped Krenzel on that 4th and 16 on the preceeding set of downs, then the ref wouldn't have been an issue.
How can the Big Ten be overrated this year when every commentator is saying how far down the Big Ten is this year. And yes I agree the Big Ten's had better years, don't think for a second I'm trying to say the Big Ten's better than the SEC. But there are 6 teams in the Big Ten I'd still pick over UK: OSU, Wis, Penn St., MSU, Purdue, Mich (Okay so the last 3 may be a reach :homer: ) And... the fact that all the Big Ten-SEC bowls are played in the SEC's back yard may be a factor, lets play a bowl game in Chicago and see how your SEC boys adjust to a totally different climate. :smirk:
If you honestly think UK will be ranked come the end of the season then you are seriously kidding yourself. Just wait till they meet PSU in the Outback Bowl and get sent home with an L.

PSU? Please. And, yes, I KNOW UK will be ranked at the end of the season, because I don't see them losing more than 4 games, and at 8-4 in the SEC, that's easily top 25. I see them going 9-3, which will mean they will be close to a top ten.
Penn St better than UK? PSU better than UK? PURDUE BETTER THAN UK??? Michigan better than UK???? Now, I'll give you Ohio State (for now) and will say Wisconsin is at the same level as UK (for now), but beating Arkansas AT ARKANSAS (against the best player in the nation) and beating Louisville, who despite recent woes is still a pretty good team in most people's estimation already gievs UK two more real wins than OSU has.
Oh, and did I mention that Michigan lost to App State and then took an Oregon beatdown the next week. And then Penn State (ANOTHER BIG TEN TEAM) forgot they were playing those same Wolverines.
How can the Big Ten be overrated? Because they are considered one of the top-tier conferences in all of college football.

My point is when every commentator and newspaper says the Big Ten is overrated, wouldn't that make them no longer overrated. (A little Yogism for ya )
I agree w/ you, I became quite the homer for a while there, however don't sleep on Purdue, they have an amzaing offense w/ Painter leading the way. I still don't think we've seen the last of Penn St. either, they just had an idiotic game plan going into the Michigan game. (Ya know lets play power football against the team that everyone else spreads out and tears to shreads). IMO Morelli will still be a VERY good QB before is career is over. tOSU plays in State College on a Sat. night and tOSU is horrible at PSU, especially at night  They're something like 3-5 at State College. So that will be a long night.
Anyway, back to UK, I have a confession to make, I haven't watched UK perform a single play, so my calling them overrated is just me blowing smoke out of my you know where. It just tees me off when you make a thread to point out the early success of UK and you just have to throw a Big Ten insult in the first post. If your intentions really were to give UK dap, then you wouldn't have felt the need to bash the Big Ten in your post and basically changed it from a "pat UK on the back" thread to a "Big Ten bashing" thread.

I am going to go point by point...
Wisconsin had a good win.
Penn State had a good win...Against the 7th best team in the SEC.
Auburn was only decent last year, and they still won, don't pull one of those "Well, this team that beat that team barely beat this other team in this game" BS...That's all that is.
BTW, what most OSU fans won't tell you is that they only had 9 more days of rest than Florida. That "off time" crap is just that...CRAP. The reason Ohio St. went undefeated was not because of a cupcake schedule by any stretch of the imagination, but rather not the grueling schedule of the SEC. Remember, Florida lost to Auburn who lost to LSU who lost to Florida. But all three of those teams won their respective bowls. Florida and LSU more than convincingly. As for the overrated crap. WE only say that because the bowl system really sc rews the SEC out of nat'l title opportunities many years (including almost doing it last year) and by giving us co-champs in 2003. By being in an overrated conference, you're in one of the better ones, and therefore get precedence because you dominate that conference.
See Pac-10 this season...
I do agree that LSU is the best team in the nation, but like OSU, no one talks about them because their pre-season top team still haven't lost, so sports writers and the press will not change it.
Again, your whole logic goes around "This team almost lost to that team who also beat this crap team, that took it to the wire with this team, etc. etc. etc." which leads to the "If this happened, maybe this would have led to that,e tc."
As for me bringing up OSU...
That was for ****s and giggles because I know how many fans are OSU fans on this board. The reaction was not as bad as I had initially expected, though.
Go UK!!! (3 big games coming up against South Carolina (away), LSU and Florida (road) where I see us going 1-2)
As far as not having watched a UK game, I say, take notice. They have a special team this year with one of the most under the radar WRs (Keenan Burton) and RBs (Rafael Little) as well as Heisman candidate Andre Woodson and possible 1st round TE Tamme.
And they have a beast of a LB that I'm hoping cincy takes a big look at...

I think Arkansas has a great team. 4 losses in the SEC makes for a top 25 team, IMO
See above.
I don't like Kentucky what so ever, but I don't see them losing to South Carolina tonight. From the couple games I've watched of the Gamecocks, they haven't played very well and are a bit overrated. I will say Woodson leads UK to a two touchdown win over S. Carolina.

Well we got it handed to us ...
Well we got it handed to us ...
3 fumbles and an INT. I really liked the way our D played, although the score won't reflect it, they came out and played with a lot of heart.
But the So Car D scored two TDs on two different fumbles, and an INT (a HORRIBLE throw) cost us at least a FG, a HUUUUGE overthrow to Keenan Burton cost us 7 more and a fumble on a PR cost us what, with our O, would have been all but guaranteed points.
But, if you didn't see this coming, you're a big time :homer: Not the loss, but the over-confidence and looking past South Carolina to LSU and Florida. Sure, we were heading INTO South Carolina, but their egos were at an all-time high, and they wanted to beat AP #1 and reigning national champs...

You mean the hold they called? It was at the LoS.
BTW, ALL teh calls went against us in the first half, a lot against them in the 2nd.
It's almost as good as winning a national title! Just hope LSU doesn't lose another one because they ARE the real deal.

LSU had some problems too in losing Hester very late in overtime. And I'm not really worried about the UK because there is a lot more games for them to lose in. (one more loss they are out of it NT) As far as the call it looked more like a scrimmage with both of them grabbing each other from the get go.Even after that where UK scored on a push off in the face mask to the defender (looked like a little grapple on the mask),but whatever, there is plenty of games for the UK to lose in.

haha, and many more for them to win in. Too bad they don't have any Big Ten cupcakes on those schedule left.
Oh, btw, if we're going to be nitpicky, you forgot the blatant push offs they didn't call against LSU on a couple of those downs. But, whatever, using calls as an excuse is for losers, and that's not how we do in the SEC. We just win.

Excuses ---- you already tried the injury excuse earlier for not dominating the lead to prevent a triple overtime in the first place. And yeah don't you just wish you had a cupcake schedule to benefit the season? The next four games should be pretty good games though for the Bucks. Penn,Illini's, Michigan St, Michigan.

Naw, I like playing this schedule. The cupcakes were no fun to watch early on (which is why I didn't watch them ) and these tough ones are cool. The Buckeyes do have a tough slate up ahead and if they win out, they deserve to play for the national title. But, I still think an 8 or 16 team playoff system is needed in college football.
As for the injury excuse, I was just saying that they could do it without one of their better stars on offense. If he was in there, this team would be beyond scary. ;)
My prediction from a month ago still stands. The only team to run the table MIGHT be Hawaii.

It's just not realistic to force more games unless they do away with the old Bowl system (big money for colleges) for sole purpose of a mythological trophy. Seriously what is there like 128 college teams in a football playoff system? And somehow you want to put it into November madness deal-----it's just not realistic because it would be too brutal to play that fast without recouping days. These are not professional career athletes yet and it is not feasible to expect more than one intense(brutality) game a year. Oh I forgot we still have to play Wisconsin this year.

Here's how I figure it, cut 2 games off hte season, that puts you at 10, maybe 11 games, and an 8-game playoff system means 3 extra games (same as current sked w/BCS games) and a 12- or 16- means 4 on byes and playing a max of 4 games or playing 4 games to win, one more than what you'd see here.
I, personally, think the NCAA tourney is grueling, but the athletes live for that time of year.

I would have to use the winners of the major bowls (Rose,Sugar,Orange,Fiesta) for one last game, but then again you more controversy, however, that would mean separate Nationals titles for different divisions to make fair;also creates more polls. I call it the bonus game since everyone of those teams get a consolation prize of college bowl trophies if they lose.I don't even understand the meaning of having the old bowls anyway since it's all focused towards the National title one game.

I say, keep the bowls, but give them title of the final few games in a playoff system. When it gets to four teams, you give them the bottom pair for that year, and then the 3rd place and championship game is the other bowl. But, this will never get resolved if you and I agree or don't, lol.

True, but I still have to go with the basic requirement for a National title game team of winning their conference to qualify. Cough, Oklahoma, cough, hosed at least two teams for that one in the last 6 to 8 years. If we could get one more team in our conference we could have a title game instead of co-co deal, but I know it would end up with OSU playing Michigan back to back in most cases.

Pardon the interruption, but I have a question:
If UK beat the #1 ranked team (LSU), then why isn't UK now #1? I realize that's not how it works, but it certainly doesn't seem fair.
I've always been a very big fan of UK's athletics and I am very excited about their football season so far. I just don't think it's fair that other teams get to be bumped up in rank due to UK's success. Then again, nobody really asked for my opinion....

UK is not #1 for the same reason Stanford isn't #1.
You can't knock off the best team in the nation and be bumped up that high. They did leap frog many teams. LSU, So-Car and UK could all end up with just one loss, and UK would automatically be the odd team out of the SEC title game. But, if just two of those do run the rest of the proverbial table, than the winner of the SEC title game will get a shot at the nat'l title.

And, unlike OSU, they play in a real conference.
Despite our differences in loyalties, I'm glad to see that there is at least ONE person on this board that realizes that the Buckeyes are undefeated only because they play in the Big 10. Is there a more weak big-time conference in college football? Maybe the ACC, but I still think the Big 10 is the softest of the BCS conferences. I just don't understand why they can't just admit the facts.
I remember after last year when my Gators absolutely beat down the Buckeyes in the desert, some Buckeye fans had the audacity to say that the real national championship game was when Ohio State beat out an equally overrated Michigan team. Can you say delusional? In college football, there are always two things that are constantly over-hyped: Notre Dame and the Big 10.

I wasn't saying that the Big Ten is weak every year, but the fact is that they are having a down year.
Congratulations are in order for Florida. The key to stopping Florida is limiting TeBow.
Easier said than done.
However, I did not like that they continued to run plays with regulation ending. Just get in the victory formation and kneel. No such thing as style points anymore.
I will say this, LSU, UF & UK look like three of the nation's absolute best, and it's a shame that only one, if any, can play for a national title.

I think that Urban was concerned with UK getting the ball back with even 10 seconds, given the way that UK moved the ball down the field. I would have to agree that LSU, UK, and UF are absolutely among the best. Just another reason for a playoff. Much love to the Cats for playing a hard fought game. I really don't care if you are hands down the two best teams in the nation (I think that only the 2005 Young v. USC battle was true to how it should have went down) you need to prove it a few weeks in a row in a playoff system. This BCS thing just ISN'T working. And it's bound to happen again this year, especially if Hawaii runs the table, cuz they aren't going to play for the nat'l title. Imagine them winning every game including their bowl game. Totally agree. How can you determine who the absolute best team in the nation is without a playoff? Simply put, you can't. I say take the top 10 teams in the country and have a playoff. Give the 1 and 2 teams a first round bye. Then the Hawaii's and Boise State's of the college football world could at least have a shot.

OK, can I say OSU is better than those teams no, can I say those teams are better than OSU, again no. Who's to say they can't go play in the BCS title game and beat any of those teams you mention. Also many of those teams you mentioned lost to teams much leser than many teams in the "down" Big Ten:
OU lost to Colorado
So-Car. lost against Vandy
USC lost against Stanford
Cal lost against Oregon State and UCLA
UK lost against So-Car. who lost against Vandy
LSU lost against UK who lost against So. Car. who lost against VANDY
UF lost against Auburn who lost against Miss. State
Now I know my: "team a lost against team b who lost against team c" is a bunch of mularkey, however the point I'm making is many of these so called great teams lost games they absolutely should have won, most especially OU, So Car., USC, and Cal. Who are you to say OSU can't beat any of these teams or deserve a shot at the NC less than these teams. (Assuming they win out) Its very possible OSU could lose one of their final four games, and then yes I would agree with you, but if they do in fact go undefeated, then they absolutely deserve a shot at the title.

Come down, Jessie, I didn't say they didn't deserve to play for the NC game, I just said that more than two teams should

Sorry to all UK fans: I've been fighting posting this, but I just couldn't help myself.
UK 14 - Miss. State 31
As I said earlier in this thread, get ready to face the Nittany Lions or Badgers in the Outback Bowl. Hopefully we will get to find out just how "overrated" the Big 10 is. :hmm:

All that does is show that the SEC is miles ahead of the Big 11. Outside of Ohio State and Mike Hart the Big 11 is pretty weak. I'll even say that the ACC is better than the Big 11.

You have to admit, he's pretty darn right...
PSU has looked atrocious so far in most game, Michigan lost to frickin' App St. I will excuse the loss to Oregon because Oregon has a great team, maybe the most underrated in the NCAA. But, OSU has looked liked they belong in the NC game...for now.
Outside of those three, you almost never have any good teams playing in the Big Ten.
As far as the SEC...UK beat LSU, USC beat UK, UF beat USC & UK, LSU beat UF, Ole Miss almsot beat UF and whipped UK, Auburn should have beaten BOTH LSU & UF, UT beat UF...
Any week, any SEC team can lose to another one. It's a gauntlet by far.

You want to see something interesting:
Here's the Big Ten-SEC records in head to head bowl games in the last five years:
The Big Ten 8 wins
The SEC 6 wins
....Wait a sec, isn't the Big Ten the consistently most overrated conference in football, what does that make the annually proclaimed best conference in football the SEC

I'm an ACC fan (UNC specifically, which is why i love your sig) My question to you is who was facing who in those head to head games.

SEC > Big Ten...ESPECIALLY this season. You can not deny that with a straight face.

I know what you said, but I thought it was convenient you started at 02, as opposed to '01 when the SEC swept the Big ten...Interesting, eh?
Either way, past has past, we now live in the present. And, I do believe, that the ACC was the power conference from 2001 to a few years before that...Right?

Well of course I did, from '02 supports my argument, plus it was a nice even 5 years. Again though, lets wait and see what happens this bowl season, whatever happens it'll be fun.
