before he is offered a job at a major football program? See, the problem with middle range programs like cincinnati(in football) is that once a coach brings a team to respectability, he usually leaves for bigger and greener pastures. It happens time and time again with stepping stone programs such as UC. (see Xavier in basketball)

Maybe the reason for their success this year is because of the attitude dantonio brought in his years here. Who knows, but it appears so far that kelly knows what he is doing and I hope it continues. I just hope he isnt so successful that he is offered a big time job and decides to bolt after only a year or two.

Cincinnati is in a BCS conference now. It will soon be about the money if BK can keep them ranked.

BCS conference and top 25....what else do you need (besides maybe a national title...coming soon if kelly will stick around:excited:)...

There are alot of schools in a BCS conference that are never in the hunt for a national title i.e. minnesota, baylor, north carolina etc. Being in a major conference now will certainly help, however it doesnt guarantee long term success. And it doesnt guarantee a coach will stick around either(see mark dantonio).

Dont get me wrong, I hope kelly brings this program to a consistent national power.

He has made it very clear that he wants to stay here and build the program. He would only consider leaving for ND, Michigan, and OSU.

eh, well given the way ND is currently playing, I'd say ND could be looking for a new coach fairly soon. And Michigan too, if Carr doesnt turn around his record against OSU and in bowl games. Personally, if he leaves for a school between ND or michigan, I'd prefer ND...cause I like Carr right where he is lol.

Cincy could compete with OSU for ohio prospects pretty darn soon...IMO

and considering the talent that comes out of greater cincinnati high school football and how close UC is to elder/moeller/St.X...

In my experience, whenever a coach says he wants to stick around, it usually means he is leaving on the next train to a bigger opportunity. Mark dantonio said he didnt want to go anywhere a couple months before he left for michigan state. Nick saban said he wasnt interested in the alabama job, a few weeks later he is the head coach at alabama. Just to name a couple

Anyways I just read today that brian kelly would be a possible candidate to replace lloyd carr at michigan. And we know notre dame is awful, so they could be looking for a coach soon too. Lets face it, UC is what it is. A stepping stone program!

Mark Dantonio built this team for sure, Kelly does a good job of coaching it and building upon it. I think he'll be here a while because UC's future in football looks bright, and with that I think the ability to pay him more looks bright also.

Brian Kelly isn't going anywhere until he wins UC a Big East Championship, and if he does then great!! He can leave, because when he does he will have left the program at a much better state than before and then we could hire another great coach to come in!

UC is not a stepping stone program. That offends me as a life long die hard Bearcat fan. They haven't always had a great college football team, in fact rarely, but ask any big school that comes in to play them regardless of their record if they take them lightly in football or basketball for that matter. Look what they did to Wisconsin a few years back, almost beat Ohio State the year they won the championship(wish they would have because OSU and the Big Ten have too big of egos), and they knocked off Rutgers last year, and who knows what they'll do this year. Regardless of records, you know if your playing that team with Cincinnati across their chest, your going home hurting, whether it be as losers or winners, in basketball or football. Alot of schools will agree, that UC is the most physical team they will face in either sport if their on their schedule. Notice I didn't say best, but most physical. And why would Kelley leave UC to coach at a stepping stone program like Michigan, in the Big Ten? Big Ten is overrated and growing weaker every year. I can't wait until the lesser known schools close the gap even more and consitently beat them. I wish UC had the chance to show Dantonio what he left.

Not trying to offend anyone. Im just calling it as I have seen it over the years. And Im not talking about the cinci basketball team. I was only referring to the cinci football team when i called it a stepping stone program. I hope that image changes soon

I am a fan of the kent state basketball team and even though they have played extremely well over the last 10 years or so, we have seen coaches leave to go to better opportunities(gary waters to coach in the big east and stan heath to go to arkansas) just when things were getting interesting with the team. Its frustrating as a fan to see coaches leave once they start turing things around. Thats my whole point. And Xavier fans must pull their hair out to see all the good coaches come and go on a regular basis. These types of schools have a hard time competing with the big time schools for coaches.

I know this may upset some of the buckeye fans out there, but I was screaming my arse off watching the bearcats almost upset them in 2002. That game was incredible and it bothered me the entire year that they didnt pull it out. Especially after watching the bucks pull out nail biter victory after nail biter victory the rest of the year.

And Bludd, I hope youre right about the big ten being overrated because I am not a fan of that conference at all. I tend to think it has slipped quite a bit in the last few years.

In terms of FOOTBALL, I have to agree with btb on this one. No disrespect to UC. I root for them and actually all of the Ohio schools when they are playing out of state teams. However, in football, UC is a stepping stone school. I mean seriously, Dantonio hasnt even been gone a full year yet from moving on to a bigger program. Sure UC has played some big programs tough but if BK really builds something special there, the big programs will take notice. As soon as one of them comes knocking (from any of the traditional big conferences) with all of the tradition & big $$, he will be gone!

Looks like Brian Kelly is in Cincinnati for the long haul... unless he decides to pull a Nick Saban.

Well, I hope he is but isnt what he says in the article what coaches are supposed to say? Especially with his 16 years or however many it is of coaching in Michigan, I have a hard time believing he would say no to scUM if they canned Lloyd & came knocking.
