Yeah, I'm just hearing about this on OTL on ESPN. The following statement is from Bears GM Jerry Angelo.
"He compromised the credibility of our organization. We made it clear to him that he had no room for error. Our goal was the help someone through a difficult period in his life, but the effort needs to come from both sides. It didnt' and we have decided to move on."
Even though he's troubled and won't get to play for a while, he'll still be picked up by someone I'm sure.

Oh and before ANYONE asks; NO WE DO NOT TAKE A LOOK AT HIM! He's a young underachieving troublemaker, just the kind of person we're trying to get rid of.

The Bears just waived Tank Johnson.
This will be the true test to see if teams can waive players for off the field conduct. I will be interested to see how it all turns out....

I guess the bears are lucky they have a clause that they can use for an easy out. Otherwise I am not sure they would be able to do this without a lawsuit. The standard rule is that a player cannot be waived for anything other than lack of performance.

I think it's ridiculous they would release him for a speeding ticket. I understand that it was "the straw that broke the camel's back", but it makes the Bears look bad that they would put up with his other offenses, but cut him for doing 40 in a 25. He should have been cut long ago!

Ridiculous how? I'm not too crazy about losing him but he's not a seven year old either. If you read the article you would realize the reasoning. The Bears were willing to work with him but it has to work both ways and he obviously couldn't take a hint. This is football, not a babysitting club.

I did read the article and if you would have read my posting you would have understood what I meant by ridiculous. The Bears put up with everything he has done, but then he gets a speeding ticket and he's out? I will repeat what I said in my original post, "He should have been cut long ago!"

now if only the Bengals would fully adopt this mentality.[I]

He said all the right things to get one last chance. In that last chance, he knowingly went 40 in a 25. I mean, there's no "oops going a little too fast there." He almost had to think that whatever he was doing was important enough to go 15 miles an hour over the speed limit in an area that is zoned for a VERY LOW speed limit. If it was residential he could have killed someone.

People go 15 over the speed limit all of the time. I know I drive over the limit without even realizing it and look down and think, oh my goodness, I need to slow down. I just don't think speeding is a deal breaker kind of thing. I think going to jail and violating probation are. The Bears sure didn't care he had problems when they used him in the Super Bowl. It's all about timing.
