I have to wonder what happened. My and my buddies were watching the Vengeance PPV last night, and we wondered what had happened when Johnny Nitro took his place in the ECW championship match.

Yeah I know I read that last night because I was hoping for Benoit to win the title and it said Nitro won it and I was confused.
It said his WHOLE family was dead, so that makes me think either murder or natural gas that killed them.
Sad day, this is worse than the Eddie death.

Unfortunately,it doesn't look like this is an "angle." I was holding out hope that this was a "swerve" after the horrible reaction to the "Vince is dead" plotline. However, from the show being canceled tonight,to Vince's appearence,to ESPN reporting on it,it looks like he and his family are really gone. The ESPN story says that the police are investigating this as a homicide, but why would anyone do this unless it was a robbery gone wrong or something?

that's because when it was Gurerro it was thought to be a heart condition that developed due to steroid abuse. Benoit died with his wife and child in their own home, hence no reason for the media to leach off of it.
He was truly one of the greats. I will miss him greatly.

The updated ESPN story says that they think it's a murder-suicide. They suspect he killed his wife and son over the weekend, then himself on Monday. It's a very sad situation.

Benoit worked out for a while at the Gold's Gym in Erlanger when I was going there. He was always quiet and by all accounts a private guy. This is surreal to be sure, especially since I used to see him quite a bit.

well in Other Sports thread it said that his wife killed their son sufficating him with a garbage bag and she called Chris and told him to go home and he was so outraged he killed strangling her with a cord, then when we realized what he did he hung himself.

I have fallen out of the WWE community over the last few years. But Benoit was always one of my favorites. Simply because he had actual wrestling skill, not the standard fake stuff. Glad to see he finally got the recognition he deserved, and its sad to see him go.

Benoit, to my knowledge, was never a steroid user though. In fact, when Eddie (Gurerro) was on it, Benoit was one of the ones telling him to get off of it. I can buy a drug influence, but I'm not sure steroids will be it. Again, I just hope it isn't true.

Guys who are in that business as long as Benoit and sustain the inevitable injuiries are often on some type of pain medication. Their travel schedules, from what people I've known in the business have told me, are very taxing on a person with a family. I'd say it's more likely fatigue and family issues than drugs. It may be a scripted form of entertainment, but the lifestyle is a very demanding one.

I have read some stories saying that his wife had asked for a divorce a while back but ended up staying with Benoit and that she had called the police before on him for abuse so who knows chris might have killed his family but in any case this is sad.

I know this. However, again, to my knowledge, Chris has always been one of those guys that absolutely refused to take shortcuts.
The media said there was some history of spousal abuse shortly following his wife's filing for divorce in 2003. Again, I'm hesitant to believe anything that isn't concrete in my face evidence. Even though the world of wrestling is taxing, but of all the people to lose it like this, Chris is at the very bottom of my list.
I'm still in shock and am praying that it is not true.

Personally,I've always suspected Benoit was a 'roider. He was always too lean and carrying too much muscle mass on his small frame since his days in WCW. Also, many close friends he had in WWE was named in the recent investigation into that HGH lab that including the Steeler's "Dr. Feelgood." Eddie Guerrerro was named, along with Edge and Rey Mesterio Jr. Benoit's cut better than any of those three.
http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/benoitpressrelease
It's hard to tell what happened, though. Even from the testimonials from the other wrestlers in his "tribute" show last night,he came accross as somewhat of a control freak, from making his son wear a suit to every event,to making another wrestler do 1000 squats for insulting Shawn Michaels. That's not "normal" behavior in my book. Maybe he had some psychological problems caused by the 'roids. Who knows at this point? However, whatever the reasons,my stance is this,Benoit was a great wrestler, but a piece of shxt as a human being for what he did to his wife and child. I hope he never makes the Hall of Fame, now.

Actually, it is not uncommon for wreslters to take matters like that internally. I remember a guy being tied to a chair and chopped repeatedly by Umaga in an effort to show him some respect. In that business if you don't have respect for someone, you might take liberties with them inside the ring, which means you could legitimately hurt or cripple someone. Respect is a very important thing in the wrestling business, so I actually didn't see anything out of the norm in that case.

That's wierd the guy goes all Amityville then murders his family and commits suicide after;----strange indeed.
Quote from article
Deaths Of WWE Champ Chris Benoit, Family Being Treated As Murder-Suicide
Ballard added that Benoit's wife was killed in an upstairs "familyroom," her body found bound by her hands and feet, and that there was"blood under her head." The couple's 7-year-old son was killed in hisupstairs bedroom. Both deaths were attributed to asphyxiation, according to an autopsy performed by the Georgia Bureau ofInvestigation.
Benoit hung himself using a cord from a weight set. When askedfor a possible motive for the murders, Ballard said he couldn'tspeculate on Benoit's state of mind over the weekend but added, "I'mbaffled by why anyone would kill a 7-year-old."

I can assure you with a 99.9% degree of certainty that Benoit used steroids. When you've been around fitness and bodybuilding as much as I have it's usually pretty easy to tell.
With that said, I really doubt steroids had anything to do with this tragedy. Now if Benoit was using antidepressants, then it would be easier to make a connection. Antidepressants have been linked to school shootings and suicides (and dementia, and diabetes...) for years, and it wouldn't surprise me at all if information comes out that Benoit was prescribed one of these drugs...

News Conference:
- Lt. Pope: WWE called police officials at 2:30PM on Monday over concern for Benoit’s well being. Police found all three bodies in the home. “Double Homicide Suicide” is the official ruling.
- It appears Benoit killed his wife on Friday, his son shortly after, and likely hanged himself either late Saturday night or early Sunday.
- No suicide note was left behind.
- Asphyxiation is the official ruling for Benoit’s wife and son deaths.
- Benoit was previously arrested for a DUI.
- A lot of prescription medication was found in the home, legal prescriptions.
- Police found anabolic steroids in the home.
- No comment from police regarding a possible motivation.
- He killed himself several hours, but no more than a day, after killing son Daniel.
- Police is unaware of prior domestic violence.
- District Attorney Scott Ballard stated that a Bible was placed near each murder victim.
- Benoit bond Nancy’s hands and feet and she was wrapped in a towel. Blood was found near Nancy’s body.
- In 2003, a temporary restraining order was sought but later dropped.
- Benoit made no attempt to hide the bodies.
- The DA himself has not heard from WWE.
- Daniel was found in an upstairs bedroom. Benoit’s wife was also found in an upstairs family room, and Benoit hung himself in the weight room in the basement.
- The toxicology reports are still pending. It will probably take more than two weeks for the reports to be finished.
- Benoit apparently called WWE stating that Daniel was coughing up blood, thus likely the “personal reasons” for missing weekend house shows.
I have lost every ounce of respect I have ever had for the guy, I cant even watch anything with him on it. I just threw away his Hard Knocks DVD.

I don't discount your expertise Joe, but seeing what had happened to his best friend as a result of drugs and steroids, I find it difficult to believe that he would walk into that nest too.
I agree wholeheartedly with the anti-depressant comment though, I too am curious to find out about that with the toxicology reports.

He was probably on the juice long before everything with Eddie went down. Then, just like anything, once you start, you can't stop. Benoit was ripped for his size back in the WCW days, when Eddie was still pretty tiny. It wouldn't surprise me if Benoit had gotten Eddie started on them, sadly.
I can't really even give him much credit for his moral fiber, either. I mean,he took the easy way out and killed himself instead of taking responsibility for his horrific actions.

That story states posession, not usage. It's not uncommon for a person to buy something and not use it, letting their cooler head prevail. As for the prescription steroids, those could be left over from his neck surgery, in which he was prescribed steroids to aid in the healing process.

There is a chance that his son might have had Fragile X Syndrome. This is a condition which causes mental retardation because of the inability of the body to produce protein for growth. Could this have been why he was giving him HGH?

I hear what you're saying, but you really are sticking up for the guy. I can see your point, but I have my doubts that he bought steroids but then decided not to use them. You could be right, but it seems as though you're sticking up for the guy or you don't want to believe it. I hope you're right though.
I just heard a little while ago on 700WLW that his kid had needle marks on his arm. I ain't gonna lie, I bought some weed one time, and it got all dried up and I never smoked it. HAHA. But, my case is a RARE case.
I can't believe he killed his little kid. If he was mentally stable enough to call the Wrestling people to tell them A LIE that he couldn't attend the weekend events because his son was coughing up blood, then to me this shows that he KNEW what he was doing. Instead, he had actually killed his son. I have no sympathy for the guy. May his wife and son rest in peace. May his family get through this ordeal.

i believe steroids had something to do with it...simply put, roid rage.......i'm just waiting for the headline that reads "Entire Pittsburgh Steelers found dead after killing spree"
It is a known fact that many many professional wrestlers use steroids and HGH as part of their everyday workouts. It also is sad when you realize that in the last 10-20 years over 65 pro wrestlers have died before the age of 45. I heard it on MSNBC last night when they were interviewing the president of the american wrestling association or something like that....he was a former pro wrestler.

Apparently,Benoit's wife was pushing for him to spend more time at home to help take care of their mentally ******** son,Daniel. This might have been why he killed his son when he snapped. In his delusional mind,he may have seen him as standing in the way of his career or something. It sort of makes sense. His wife is telling him she needs him at home more, but WWE was planning on making him the ECW champion and making him the cornerstone of that show. His physician also admits that he prescribed Benoit testosterone due to steroid abuse. Benoit's name has also apparently popped up in investigations into companies selling steroids online.

There is a theory that since his wife was killed first, and his son hours later, that Benoit realized he was going to jail and knew people would be reluctant to take care of a special needs child, so he killed him. It is not a justification, but it is a plausible scenario.
Personally, I'm still hoping for one of those instances where he wasn't in his right mind for whatever reason. It will still be hard to get past it, but at least I would be able to say "that's not the chris benoit I knew"
Also, the following article states that the needle marks were for a legitimate medical treatment, so at least we know he wasn't just doing this.

Did you all hear the latest in the Benoit murder?
Apparently someone went on Wikipedia and edited Benoit's entry and stated the reason he missed the match Sunday night was due to the death of his wife nancy........the intriguing thing about this is that the entry was made 14 hours before the bodies were discovered.
It's still on wikipedia.....the ip address came from a computer in stamford Ct. where the headquarters of WWE are located.

ok. Now that IS very interesting. WWE helping cover up murder/ death? hmmm. I guess it's not illegal to fail to fail to report a death right away; considering if you don't know its murder. However, its definitely strange that the effort to edit a wiki article took precident over an official release.
hmmm, i doubt cover up. Probably just a strange coincidence, but definitely interesting.
It was probably he called them, said he couldn't come. Told them she died. No one questioned it, and decided to give him some time. Listed the absence as personal reasons for the time being at the PPV, but edited that article. Then later they found out about the murder.

Why is this thread still here...a thread about a murder that not only took his wife's life but also his child's and then sat around with their corpses for a day or so until he offed himself.....
This is as much attention as I give him....
Kind of like mourning Kurt Cobain if ya ask me (now don't go getting your panties in a bunch) I know the life of a rockstar must be tough...the onkly way out must be to kill yourself and abandon your wife!! Classy!!
at least give us this....
It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than all the stupid Paris Hilton garbage on the news.
Yeah, very true, but at least she is better looking and we all KNOW what she does in front of a nightvision equipped camera!! [;)]

hahah, Exactly. Well the best part about that is you don't have to listen to her talk. I swear people get dumber by listening to her.

I'm more of a Nikki Hilton man, myself. A lot cuter,a lot less trashy, and lot less baggage IMO. Besides,I KNOW Paris is borderline ********,but the jury's still out on Nikki.

Paris is a rare breed of women..one one hand she is ignorant and make you want to vomit in your mouth but on the other hand...she IS sleazy and easy...all my favorite z's!!
I like Nikki as well but I just think I would have a better chance of making an "internet movie" with Paris than her sister!
