I cant even believe im about to say this, because I know alot of fans on here will rip me apart, but honestly if the bengals have another season with 7 wins or less, and the entire coaching staff (besides zimmer) isnt replaced, I will cease to be a fan of this team. The bengals refuse to do anything to further better themselves, and are ******* away a great oppritunity to be a playoff contender with a great franchise quarterback, and the clock looks like it has ticked away with the apparent departure of TJ and chad. Quite frankly im sick of the apparent lack of desire to win. I remember phil savage, when I lived in cleveland, once said "Its not like theres some big conspiracy here, we're trying to put together a winning football team, we're trying to do everything we need to do to get the cleveland browns to the playoffs. Cincinnati doesnt even do that, they just tell us we have to get back to fundamentals. Well fundamentals dont win football games (alone), great coaches who think of new inventive and great ways to innovate win football games. Guys who dont complain, do their job, and buy into a system of success win football games. It all starts up front, up top. It all boils down to does this franchise show by example, excellence. And the bottom line is they dont. Kraft (patriots owner) made a huge deal about changing the way the patriots operated. From top to bottom, he expects nothing short of excellence. And he gets it, because guys who dont perform at 110% all the time, well they dont make it in new england. If the bengals fail once again, I will refuse to follow another team, atleast for a few years. Hell I might even choose one that isnt completely idiotic in the front office, or if mike brown dies or resigns I will cease my NFL-watching exile.
Here is also a list of excuses im not going to let the bengals pull on me again next year, god damnt if its broke fix it!
1.)Injuries
I dont give a **** who is injured, for how long, or why. This is such a cop-out for this team, its always blamed on injuries. 3.)Bad coaching

4.)Character issues resulting in players suspended
I dont care if we lose our running game because benson gets in trouble (although I think we're safe with him) or we lose our deep threat because henry messes up yet again, I dont care what the hell the excuse it, because im done with relying on those guys. Those are guys ya have backups for, so they are expendable and they know it. If ya cant draft guys who arent complete morons, well then thats your fault once again mike brown
5.) Lack of impact free agent(s)
Whether or not its paying a backup RE like odom starter money, getting a backup TE like utecht, or whatever the excuse. The free agent market is another area the bengals refuse to ever succeed in, and its friggin sickening. Good teams build through the draft, true, but good teams also dont refuse to EVER make a good trade, or EVER sign a free agent. The reason the patriots succeed every year is they find their voids and fill them well, and although its easier for a team with success to do that, there's still no excuse why the bengals shouldnt be able to obtain atleast 1 impact free agent on both sides of the ball.

I'll never start following another team, but I stopped caring this year. It was so much better. I didn't get mad when Larson punted the ball 15 yards, Chrissy Perry fumbled, or Chad dropped a wide open catch. I laughed instead. I only watched the games when I had nothing else to do or felt like getting in some good laughter.

I think everyone feels your pain. Like the last poster stated, I think we stopped caring if they won or lost. It didn't matter after a certain point in the season anyway. It was nice not be be screaming at the TV when they were stinking it up. But that doesn't mean I will quit being a fan. I will always be a fan and won't root for any other team. Well unless they are playing in the Super Bowl against the Steelers.

I could never blame or be angry at anyone who feels it is time to move on.
This team makes it very very hard to take seriously, after years of dissapointment i would never hold it against anyone for switching team alliances.
how can anyone blame anyone for leaving this team in their tracks.....unfortunatley it's too late for me.....i'll just pass away never seeing a SB win and leave it to my son to try and bring home a winner.

Yeah, quitting on a team just because they are bad is lame. But we have so much more than that. We have just about any legit reason you can come up with to quit. 1. Bad Ownership 2. Continuing to bring in players with "questionable personalities" 3. Takes advatage of your city 4. Stuck in the past/ Failure to moderize 5. etc.
So I wouldnt blame anyone right now. I cant quit on them, so it runs an even bigger problem for me because my fandom may just go into hibernation. That would cause me to pretty much totally ignore the NFL, which would really stink.

Whodey my friend this is but a theme, that we as fans go through and over time we will begin to see the genius that is Mike Brown, and we will come to the realization that running a NFL team is hard! We...must...be....patient....:vomitfest:
ugh, I can't stomach that crap no more lol.
We all feel your pain brother, and I don't blame others for moving on with their "fandom." It's tiring and just plain nerve-racking to be a Bengals fan, at least other teams can taste vitory or at least show progress being made, but every year its the same ole, same ole from this franchise. I just don't take this team serious anymore, we are a joke and always will be a joke. We are powerless as fans and what we do means very little to this team, so I don't even consider myself a "fan" more of an "observer" since at least a "fan" gets a small, tiny, molecule of respect or acknowledgement from their team they follow. So if you must go, I wish ya the best!

If you want to stop rooting for the bengals please do. And when we get good if we get good I will welcome any one back. It takes a true fan to demand change and success. And what are you doing to demand change and success? Maybe you can tell me where to start, because I am thinking that Mike Brown could care less about our gripes. But maybe I am wrong, I am open to suggestion because I would love to have a winning franchise as much as anyone else, but we are pretty powerless, because even people giving up their season tickets, etc... isn't going to work because there will be someone else there to buy them up whether its a fan or a broker ready to sell them to the opponents fans. It should be pretty clear that after the 20+ years of Mike Browns ownership of this franchise that he doesn't care whether we are unhappy or not.
And I am not getting pissy. If they want to leave, then leave the fanbase. Go on ahead and go. I am not going to lose any sleep over it. Thats why I said peace out, go on ahead and cheer for someone else.

How could anyone possibly speak negatively of someone who has these thoughts? Honestly, haven't we all had times where we said "I'm through with this stupid team"? Every year, it is the same old story... NOTHING ever changes with this organization. A definition of both insanity and stupidity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting to get a different outcome. And sadly, that pretty much sums up the philosophy of the Bengals. We, as fans, somehow hope that next year is going to be better. How? How is it going to get better? We didn't even fire Brat... And if ANYONE, in any industry deserves to get collecting unemployment, it is that man.

You know what I do? I have distractions to get me through the season and enjoy it in other ways. Im in a football pool at work and we play for money(not alot, just enough to make it fun and rag on the other guys) so I get to root for myself on how well I do. I also follow some teams inmy area that just make it interesting.
Ive been a Bengals fan my whole life and even if I wanted to change teams, my hearts still with them and for me Ive come to the conclusion that they will **** next year and the year after. I hope it will change and still get mad when they lose, but I also try to enjoy the sport itself and all the other great players in the league.
You should try that, it works for me. If I only watched the Bengals in the hopes they would be contenders I would have to commit myself.
Who knows maybe one day our kids kids will see them win a Super Bowl!
PS- I got my 12 year old son to become a die hard Bengals fan with me..how bad is that??? Im nervous it could be taken as child abuse and the "man" could lock me away for years!!!

I feel ya Whoydey777. Honestly i'm at that point myself. I'm giving it the offseason. If major changes aren't at least made with the roster I will become teamless, opting to just enjoy watching other teams play good football. If Guysuck and/or Andrews are resigned and still the starters while T.J. gets to walk? I'm done then and there probably. Can't do it anymore. I understand exactly what you're saying. We've so far watched over a dozen teams take steps to improve yet Brat and Giggles are still here. Heh. I know I know folks, it's "just a theme."
We arent intending to lose games, but when you take over a team that has so few pieces in place it often takes awhile to get those pieces into place" (not an exact quote, but that was the jist of it) See, the browns are by no means a role model whatsoever, but they still stressed to the public they are trying to win.
Well train your players better and you wont have half of ur god damn roster on IR. hire a new training staff mike, employ a team to work on JUST this problem alone and fix it. And god help me, if carson is out next year due to an injured elbow in his throwing arm, thats the moment I cease to be a bengals fan,
2.)Young team
A young team should be an advantage, and if you draft right you're young players make a great impact in year one. We drafted odell thurman and chris henry, and that year we went to the playoffs. granted they later had character issues, but reguardless, there's talent out there, and ya better find it mikey boy.
3.)Bad coaching
Fix a problem before it blows up in your face, not after. Well its allready blown up and he hasnt made the moves to fix it. (mike brown that is)
4.)Character issues resulting in players suspended
I feel your pain and I think I'm in a similar situation. I could never stop being a Bengals fan, but if something doesn't change soon, I can see myself lacking the desire to put the time and effort into it that I have in the past. It will be the kind of thing where on Sundays, instead of waking up and getting ready to watch the game all day and getting myself fired up, I would get up, go fly fishing all day and just check the scores to see if we won later in the eve. If we won, cool deal, if not, whatever. I feel like I'm about "another bad season with no effort in improving" away from it becoming like that........blah

Sure I'll check out some highlight reels, stop by here to see if anything has changed, and check on stats while I'm procrastinating at work (ahem). But I will not be wasting any more time, money, or energy on this team for a while.
And don't give me any of this "fair weather fan" crap. I sat around listening to the radio brodcasts of the games back in the late 80's/early 90's in college, and spent tons of time being the lone Bengal fan in out-of-town sports bars after that.
I bought the whole bill of goods when the city ponied up the cash for the new stadium, we brought in Marvin, and stopped flying 300 lbs free agents in business class, that things would change... they haven't. Instead, I've changed...

We arent intending to lose games, but when you take over a team that has so few pieces in place it often takes awhile to get those pieces into place" (not an exact quote, but that was the jist of it) See, the browns are by no means a role model whatsoever, but they still stressed to the public they are trying to win.
Sorry to hear you will be leaving Bengal fandom after this year, better luck with your next team<_<

Wow, you read my mind. I intended to start this very thread as i logged on today. If I don't see signs of change with this organization starting from the day after the super bowl and going thru 2009 then i don't think i will be able to support my Bengals anymore. It just seems like ramming my head into the wall season after season. for the past 2 years i haven't even had my usual "just wait till next year" mentality. It sad really becasue i never thought i would feel this way.
I doubt i will support any other team like i did this one though, and no way on Gods green earth could i root for the :Toilet: or the :pittpuke:.

I hear you loud and clear. I'll never stop pulling for them, but thanks to the nice weather here at the beach, I got more yard work done on Sundays this year than ever before.

A man, you must not be a "TRUE" fan. A "TRUE" fan would let m.b. slap their momma in the face. You must not, really like the Bengals. Your a bandwagon, you should start rooting for the next team that's really ,really, really good. I hope you quit liking the Bengals and then they win the next 10 superbowls.:sarcasm:

Why does everyone feel the need to post about wanting to switch teams? It always generates the same BS thread:
1) I'm sick of rooting for the Bengals, I'm switching
2) Yeah, we feel your pain, Mike Brown *****.
3) Even so, I'm not switching teams.
4) Let's question "real fanhood."
I guess this thread is even worse cause its about someone THINKING about leaving. What? Are we supposed to try and convince you to stay?
Can these people grow a pair and just switch teams and leave the other one? If we wanted to hear how bad Mike Brown and the team are, we can either listen to the voices in our heads (common knowledge) or read any of the other threads that actually have to do with our team.

Maybe you haven't been a fan for 30 years and find it hard to leave like so many of us have....
My thoughts right now are that we've all been scammed. This is an NFL team in name only. We have an owner who has completely cheated our city and has managed to get some moron to sign a contract that basically gives the city nothing while Mike Brown takes everything. We lose year after year after year, with only one winning season since Brown took over the team. We sit helplessly by as Mike Brown does nothing to make the team any better. Some really good players have come here and had their careers ruined by inept management, poor facilities, and poor coaching. Mike Brown is the only winner here. He lines his pockets while we sit and watch losing seasons go by. Our city has to lay off policemen because they can't afford to pay them, but Mike Brown doesn't have to pay anything to use the stadium. It's a complete scam.

1.)Injuries
I agree with you in that it's the coaching staff's job to have competent backups. Lewis's chosen backups on opening day were poor players. The best replacements we had last year were signed after training camp. This team needs a staff (scouts) who can properly assess second tier, or role players.
2.)Young team
Unfortunately, this team is getting younger each year. But it's definitely not an excuse.
3.)Bad coaching
Every year, bad coaching is waved off as "poor execution." Well, who's job exactly is it to make sure the team executes properly? Yeah, that'd be the coaches...
4.)Character issues resulting in players suspended
The problem here is the media. They beat that drum incessantly. But the reality is, as we all know, that character issues really only affected a couple of players. Injuries had ten times as more impact on Cincy performance.
I quote you in full because you are 100% correct.
Mike Brown refuses to spend money. That's because he's running a family business, not trying to win a championship.
I would have gladly given two first rounders for Haynesworth to play next to Odom on our line. (Just look at Cincy's 1st round success. They're 50-50 at best, and who could improve the team more?) But that's just one possibility. We all have ideas that would help. Problem is, as you point out, Mikey simply refuses to add value that way. And thus, Cincy's always second to teams who do.

As fans, the only thing we can do is stop going to games and continue to boycott bengal merchandise. sales of merchandise are WAY down this year, costing the team close to $40M in lost sales in the last calendar year compared to the year before. as far as visiting teams buying up all the PBS tickets, that would only be a serious problem for teams that are geographically close in proximity, namely cleveland, pittsburgh, indy, and tennessee; consistently 2 home games per year.
we as fans should abandon this organization the same way we have cheered for them for the last 18 horrible seasons--together. they obviously dont give two ****s about a single one of us, all they see is a big dollar sign with every ticket that is scanned at the gates. even you bengal vigilantes that come to the defense of this sorry team and this sorry owner every time a post like this goes up--do yourself a favor and join us. your loyalty at this point just looks foolish.

I am with ya Joe. I could never blame anyone for leaving "The Jungle" either but I am way to far gone to even think about following another team. I am desitned to die a Bengal fan even though it means I may never see a Lombardi Trophy in Cincinnati.
