Yeah, but you're one of the few around here that will freely admit it these days.
I agree, if they take Penn St away from you, it puts you up against a wall again. You'd have to run the table and hope for some help to win the Big Ten.

So that loss (or potential loss) may not hurt too bad...:nervous: I hope

Yeah, but it still gives you a big ten loss, so anyone running the table would knock you out of contention.
Realistically the only way you for you guys to keep Carr is to win the Big Ten outright.

I had already heard rumors (before the season) that Carr was planning on retireing after the season anyway. I'm sure he was hoping to leave on a good note however.

Here is a line from the story.
Martin acknowledged Saturday that the university had misinterpreted Big Ten freshman eligibility rules.
Sounds to me like UM has been attending the Bill Belichek school of BS.
BS *cough* BS

i swear man they are the ncca bengals. every year it is like, this is going to be the year. Get to bowl games and lose. This year start of TERRIBLE, have a glimmer of hope and then this stuff. It is a tuff year to be a michigan fan but it is almost like a marriage (thick and thin). that is what a fan is all about.

This whole thing is a little blown out of proportion, and Michigan is not going to have to forfeit anything. There was an error in the AD's office, which led to them being in violation of an obscure Big Ten rule. The player in question played special teams only, and recorded no tackles in that game. It's not like Mike Hart was the ineligable player. IMHO, it is unfair to the rest of the guys on that team, that fought hard for that win, to make them forfeit, and I doubt that Paterno would even accept a forfeit. There will be, and should be, sanctions/fines on the AD's department, as they are the ones that dropped the ball here. When the error was realized, Michigan immediately reported it to the Big Ten. They didn't attempt to cover it up, or continue playing dumb.
I'm fine with Michigan forfeiting this win if USC forfeits every game that Reggie Bush played in, when he was violating NCAA rules by accepting money from boosters.

It doesn't matter if he was a game changer or not, he was on the field and he shouldn't have been. My senior year of HS, our football team had to forfeit all of our wins because a player wass inelligible. He didn't see a lot of game time (if any) but he still was ineligible, so we had to give up the wins.

doesnt look like they will have to forfeit any games. I'm sure a big 10 fine is on the way for the AD though.

Michigan won't have to forfeit games over freshman flap
Oct. 4, 2007
CBSSports.com wire reports
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan won't have to forfeit any football games for using an ineligible freshman player.
Michigan last month reported an administrative error involving safety Artis Chambers to the Big Ten. Chambers played in three games, including a 14-9 victory over Penn State, but wasn't eligible under the conference's freshman rules.
He will keep his athletic scholarship and can continue practicing with the team, but he will miss the rest of the season, the university said Thursday. The conference said Michigan (3-2 overall, 2-0 Big Ten) will not have to forfeit games.
Athletic director Bill Martin previously said he could not talk about Chambers' case because of privacy laws. Coach Lloyd Carr has declined comment.

Sorry I'm late to this thread, thanks for saving me a seat, lol.
God, I love this (regardless if no games are forfeited, which there won't be).
The team up north had one thing to hang their hat on after 5 weeks, OSU's future qb star Henton getting busted.
Now this...and all you hear is crickets from the 3-2 maize and blue.

What I find amusing is that they said the misinterpreted the regulations. Ar you serious?? How long have you been dealing with the Big Ten and NCAA rules and regulations?? So they are telling us that that team from up north doesn't know what makes a player eligible??
Come on!! What a lame excuse! At least Henton was just looking for some extracurricular fun!!

I didnt think they would be forced to forfeit a game for this. But the AD should at this point know what makes a player eligible or not within their conference. Probably some kind of clerical error that was missed. I really dont think its that big of a deal personally. Fine the school and be done with it.
Now extracurricular fun....geez we've all searched out a little extracurricular fun in our time have we not. However, let it be known i'm admitting to nothing here!!!! LOL...i'm a good catholic boy and would never do such a thing(twice in the same week anyways).

Yeah, because some kid who no one knew was even playing ineligably is on the same level as soliciting a prostitute.

You're blind to the truth if you think no one knew he was playing ineligably. You think that's a new rule?
When it comes down to it, what gives a team more of an unfair advantage? Someone playing on your team who is not allowed (regardless of how he did) or something completely off the football field and not relating to football in any way?
Besides no one said that was as morally wrong as someone soliciting a prostitute. Do not put words in my mouth.

You critisize me for putting words in your mouth, yet you then go on to tell me what LLoyd Carr and the UM athletic department did and didn't know. Interesting stance to take. Perhaps you can explain why UM turned themselves in to the Big Ten after they realized the player was ineligable, if they knew the whole time that he was not eligable. Also, do you really think that Michigan would risk sanctions and possible forfeit of wins to have some role-player on special teams in the game. Does the risk seem worth the reward? If you think that Michigan intentionally played the athlete in question, you are the blind one my friend.
Finally, I actually do believe that the rule that Michigan violated was a relatively new, and admittedly obscure, Big Ten rule, although I don't want to go through the trouble to verify that.

They dodged a huge bullet with this. They're still alive in the big ten, but this could've all but killed their season.

Putting words in someone's mouth is not the same thing as assuming a coach and his staff knew a rule.
There's no risk of forfeiting a win, I said that when the story first broke.
Also, you say some role player on special teams? They had no idea how well or poorly the kid would do prior to the game.
