View Full Version : Nested Quotes

Hey guys,
I just noticed how if people keep quoting posts with quotes in them, that they can get rather large. To the point that some in smacktalk have like 6 or 7 nested quotations. I was wondering if there was anyway you could add a routine to limit the nested quotes to like 2 or 3. This would help conserve screen space and sanity :).
If not,thats ok. just a suggestion!

The easiest way to do this is just what i've done here.....when you quote, delete everything after the first {quote user="The Bat" } and delete all all the way down to the last post before the one you want to actually quote.
so in this case i deleted everything except for The Bat's last post and it is followed by the {/quote }

That actually happens all the time... I work at the Air Force Base where we re-work F-16, and lots of other engines... most of the guys working on these engines are no smarter than a monkey. Actually, the monkey would probably win hands down.
Seriously, if a fighter pilot ever took a tour of the engine re-work shop... he'd turn in his wings the next day. He wouldn't feel confidence in his aircraft anymore.

That's a great tip for some, and one that I, too, use almost every time I quote someone as I feel it is disrespectful and tacky to others trying to read the thread. Of course, being an anonymous message board on the internet, respect & tact are not exactly required for membership to our little community. As such, I believe the issue isn't so much those who are willing to do this, but some tool that will benefit those of us who prefer not to see this waste from those that alter their posts. If it's not possible with this message board system, then so be it. We've been dealing with it and will continue to do so. It will take much, much more than that to drive me away from this great forum. However, if it is an option that can be enabled by our administrators, then I agree that it would be well worth it.

I wish it were an option on here, but unfortunatley it isn't....we can only hope that when the software is updated they will include such features...but it's a wait and see process

Thanks anyways, Joe. This is as good of a time as any to say that the administrators do a great job here and I love visiting this place every day for a variety of reasons. The board itself may have some flaws, but you guys do the best you can with what you have to work with. Thanks!
