What do you guys think of Illinois Linebacker J. Lehman. I think this kid is an absolute workhorse. He's a guy that will consitently flock to the ball, and I think he could be the best kept secret in the NCAA. We might be able to snare him in the later rounds of the Draft.
This kid is TOUGH!!!

I think Jasper Brinkley from USC might be a good fit for the Bengals. Only problem is he has been injured this year.

I like Lehman, I see him kidn of being a Tim Shaw of the draft this year. Jasper Brinkley and Casper Brinkley would be nice additions on our D as well.
I still like, James Lauranitis, Dan Connor, Wesley Woodyard as the top 3 LB's I would like to have.

Agreed.
I'm also intrigued by the Purdue WR, he's only 5'9, but he's got fantastic hands vision and speed. I look for him to be a late rounder too.

Got the name?
Would not mind looking at a scouting report.

Dorien Bryant. He's their leading receiver, and he also returns kicks and punts sometimes.

Okay, thanks I will find a scouting report for him and try to post it on here.

on NFL Draft Scout they have him ranked 8th best WR, 49th prospect overall.
his height is 5'10" and his weight 176. He runs a 4.3-4.4 40 time.
Looking at his profile and little game tape, looks like a Antonio Chatman clone, but with speed.

yup NFLDRAFTSCOUT.com had him 49th.
I guess you are not the only one who thinks he is very good!
=-p
Plus, with Purdue formally being in the top 25, he got alot of national exposure for scouts to watch.
Think Calvin Johnson.
Calvin was on an awful team but somehow he made the team look good, same goes for Bryant, just alot different in height and weight.

There's a difference between being 6'5 240 and running a 4.35 than being 5'10 and 175 and running that fast. Calvin was rated so highly because he is a physical anomaly, i don't think he will be ranked that high. He is a damn good player though and could be a first rounder.

What I was talking about between them two is that Calvin was on an awful offense, and he was really their only option, exposing him as a good player, same goes for Bryant.

I love J. Lehman. I just graduated from Illinois, so I got to see him play for a couple of years. The guy is an absolute tackling machine. He's not the fastest or most athletic guy, but he is very strong and tough. He plays with a lot of passion and has excellent instincts. I have rarely seen him misread a play or botch a tackle.

it looks like kiper has him 4th on his big board in terms of linebacker rankings..behind dan connor, jon goff, ben moffitt, then j leman...

This will be the perfect weekend to watch him. I'm pretty sure that Illinios plays the Buckeyes so we'll get to alternate seeing Lehman and Little Animal play.

Buckeye fans should have seen him last year against OSU. He had a monster game that almost lead to an upset by Illinois (17-10 OSU I believe).

since this thread is about Illinois defense, how about chris norwell of illinois. Good size (6'6") and hes what we need up the middle at DT

I hate to bring up old threads but I read this and thought Blasphemy!
Please explain to me how the team was awful.
I'll start with the offense. Calvin undoubtedly make this unit better but lets not forget Tashard Choice who led the ACC in rushing. No small feat considering the plethera of very good running backs in the ACC (the two from Clemson come to mind). And in case you think Choice was a fluke last year and his high stats came as a result of johnson garnering so much attention, he is again leading the ACC in rushing this year.
I don't know why you would think our defense would be stinky. We consistently have a top tier unit under John Tenuta and this year is no different, I think we're number one in the country for tackles with a loss and I absolutely love our blitzing schemes(maybe the bengals could learn something). Phillip Wheeler is considered by many to be a top linebacker coming into the '08 draft and a few others will probably get drafted as well.
I normally wouldn't bring up special teams but I have to give Durant Brooks our punter some props, one of the best in the country
oh and Who-Dey! Maybe i'll actually be able to watch the Bengals this weekend, I'll puke if the only game I pick up again is the Falcons. :tiger:
