Updating a previous report, John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports Cleveland Browns WR Josh Cribbs may ask for a trade in the near future because he is unhappy with his contract, according to a source. The source said head coach Eric Mangini told Cribbs he did not want to change his contract.

I think this guy is a game changer and would love to have him returning kicks for us.

Well sure, but do you really think they would trade him within the division so he could return some kicks on them? Cribbs real issue is he wants to be a starting receiver, not just a return guy. So, with our current roster, I don't see enough catches at WR to make him happy. Not to mention the team probably doesn't have the money right now to give him the contract he wants.

would trade a 4th-7th rounder for him all day. Or a 3rd and 4th for Cribbs and Rogers. Money!

Cribbs for cheap, sure. Not too much since the Bengals have much better "pure" receivers that'd have to get cut and hence factor into the trade value of Joshua.

Maybe White or Ndukwe for Cribbs straight up? Clears out some of our back ups for a role player desperately needed.

It's completely unrealistic, IMO. Inter-divisional trades involving a player with the game-changing ability of Cribbs are very rare.

We need a KR. Who on our team Besides Caldwell is actually adequate at it? Our 6th WR should be a special teams guy.

Depends on what they would want, but I doubt they would want to trade him to a division rival.

I don't see it happening. Cribbs isn't worth much. He fell off big time in the return game last year from his Pro Bowl year in '07. He wasn't in the top 10 in return yardage or average in either kick returns or punt returns last year. He's really a liability as a WR and only a pure return man, anyways. He has only 16 catches for 153 yards and one TD in four NFL seasons. This is really akin to a K or P holding out for more money. He made the Pro Bowl once, couldn't back it up,and still wants close to Devin Hester $. Yeah,he's an upgrade for us in the return game,by why would we give up a draft pick to overpay him? Maybe if he jerks the Browns around enough to cut him and we can nab him on the cheap, but I sure wouldn't trade anything for him.

He does pretty damn good in the wildcat formation too.

Ok, just to note, people care way too much about the Wildcat.

He does ok with it. 5.8 ypc last year, but only 1 TD. Still,he was whining for a new contract last year when Devin Hester signed his 4 year,$30 million deal with the Bears, and said he wasn't worth quite as much. Even if we got him for half of Hester's deal,he's still close to a $4 million a year player. He's just not worth it,IMO. We could use another CB like Hood a lot more than we can use Cribbs.

It wouldn't hurt to ask the Brownies what they want. I say give them Chad.

Well I will say his return potential is unreal. he could fill the a backup QB roll too, because he was fairly descent in college. He's like fitzy but he can actually throw it. Just the fact that he can be used in several places makes him a nice pickup. I'm sure the Browns know that too... they'll definetly want a gamebreaker in return.

Like most have said Cribbs would help our return game but would be somewhat of a liability as a WR. I wouldn't give to much for him and it seems that the Browns try to get more than what they should for trades. (Edwards). I like our moves so far this off season and think we should keep what we have for now. if he is released then i say we try to make a move but until then let him be

We do need another kick returner. Like to other posts say as long as they dont want to much. Give them chapman. He done for it anyways.

Browns wont give Cribbs to Cincinnati, because we face them twice a year. So 2 TD returns against them per year haha.

I think you are all overrating him to a large extent. His primary position, kick returner, has the shortest shelf-life in the league, by far. Dante Hall was a multi-TD returner from 2002-2005, and has never had more than 1 in a season since. Hester had 5 his first year, 7 his 2nd year, and 0 last year, and is trying to move away from the returner role. Desmond Howard was an elite returner from about 1996-2000. Basically, you're lucky to get 4 elite returning seasons out of ANYONE, even the most talented ones in the league, and Cribbs has already put in 3 elite seasons. I really don't see a reason to get a guy who will be reasonably expected to be productive for MAYBE one year. Kick and punt returners need world-class speed and agility, and take extremely high-impact hits every time out, so the position by nature is too short-lived to make a multi-year vet attractive. We need to either find a rookie or sophomore, I would think, who might be fresh enough to return kicks. In-house, Caldwell and Cosby seem to fit the description...maybe we can draft a Desean Jackson/Eddie Royal/Jeremy Maclin guy next year, someone who is dangerous at returner AND receiver...though they are rare.
