The media was NOT there yesterday, which I feel is part of what makes it so great. The players are in great moods and don't have to deal with the media. The players were awesome to us!

Yes we got to chat with any player we wanted and also got many great pictures with them, the players couldn't have treated us any better, almost like we were part of the team. I would also like to mention how truely awesome Mike Brown and Katie Blackburn were to us, very good people!

What were some some of the more interesting packages RBs, WRs, LBs and DL? Love to see some pics of our S and LB, Crocker, Duke, Roy,Brandon Johnson and the rest of the bunch.

Thanks Denny. You truely are the man. I'm so excited about this team and it's a feeling I haven't felt in years. As far as Jermi Johnson don't count him out. He still is the best blocking FB on out roster right now, with maybe Pressley close behind. The rest of our FB's are FB/RB.

Denny, of what ou saw what plaer excited you the most from watching so far, if ya had to pick one. Also any surpises out there that you didnt expect to see?
Excellent Denny!!! Thank you for the pics and post!
I love the picture of Crocker and Williams. I really think those two are going to form a very feared duo in the AFCN. Both can lay the wood and Crocker is fast enough to play FS and even CB in a pinch. I am very excited about these guys---heck I'm excited about EVERY position this year. I think we might be onto something., This is by far the most intriguing offseason season in years. Even more so than 2005. So many new faces, so much talent, so much potential, and team chemistry seems to be perhaps at an all time high the way the players are talking.
So did you notice who they seemed to be playing more on the 1st team DT spots, or was it an even rotation? I'm excited to find out who will be our starting two DT's. I have a feeling it will end up being Tank and Sims.

There is a tremendous amount to be excited about! This team is seemingly a total united unit, after practice watching the team play basketball together for a couple hours after lunch was quite impressive, alot of team continuity.

Just looking at the pics and from what you are saying Denny, this looks like the year
things start to turn around. When you look at the defense they are poised for a top 10
year.
The O-line has been improved which is the reason for the bad year last year. If Carson
has time and Benson, Scott and Leonard have holes to run through, LOOK OUT! ;)

Thats fantastic and what really excites me about the year is that the chemistry with the players this year will have a major positive impact on the playing field. Theres been so many teams that have won Super Bowls not because they were the best team in the league but because of the chemistry and hunger to win making good players great. Hopefully this fall were estatic about the winning from week to week...god only knows we all deserve it as fans that have been hungry for it year after year.

Yes, Zimmer has great fire and determination with this group, you can tell they really respond well to him, he always seems to have their full attention.
Michael Johnson, in my mind, stole the pass rush segment, he maybe the quickest end I have ever seen, he had an inside move that was simply stunning!

When you compare this year's OTA to last year's, what sticks out most? Positive and Negative.
For me personally, the positive was no mention of 2 players, Chad and TJ, this team has clearly moved on from their antics, and has a very talented WR squad no matter if Chad shows up or not.
The negative, I know I am known as a homer, but I cannot think of anything this year that wasn't anything but positive. Trust me, this team has fun together and for the most part, the malcontents and cancers are gone (except one). This has clearly become Palmer's team;)

Denny,
I have to admit I'm jealous, but at the same time I'm very happy for you guys. I have a question...
How were you guys introduced to the players? In other words, did they all understand that you're there because of your roles on the Bengals site, in particular the message board? And if that is the case, which I assume it was, did any of the players indicate whether they read the message board? Did they have any comment on it?
Again, thank you for the pics. I'm glad you had a great time. You're a great fan.

:Tigerdance:Great question Wilson, I can tell you that Mike and Katie are fully aware of what we do along with Hobson. The Brown family is absolutely terrific to us and thanks us countless times for what we do here. I can remember last year when we met Carson, when Andy told Carson along with Marvin and several others what we did, so the short answer is that I think a good amount of players and administration are aware that we moderate the pulse of Bengal Nation. I told Mike and Katie that for the most part the message boards were estatic with the offseason so far, which they were very, very happy to hear, I was certainly under the belief they check in here from time to time.
I am no greater of a fan than anyone else on here, but I appreciate the compliment:thumbsup:

Denny, thanks for replying so quickly. I've talked to a few others on the board, and we're all excited about your report and OTA pics. They come at a good time where the boards are slow because it's in between the draft and mandatory training camp.
Thanks again for the information and pics. I'm sure I'll have more questions, but for now I'm gonna give some others a chance to ask questions before I jump in there again. I don't want to line ditch anyone. B)
Oh, yeah, if by any chance Mike or Katie or Marvin or any player from the team happens to read this, I just wanted to say THANK YOU you for all your hard work during FA in bringing in some quality players. And I want to especially thank you for what I consider just about as good a draft as I could ever have imagined. I love this team, and I thank you for heading it in the right direction. There were times I honestly couldn't say that in the past, but now I can.

Let me just say Huber was killing the ball, I mean launching them into the stratusphere! You will have to ask 34, but I am pretty sure he caught one of his punts.
At lunch, Huber walked by us, and I believe David told him he was glad to see him as a Bengal, I also told him we were not use to the kind of punts we were seeing by him, he got a chuckle out of that, I think many do not realize what a great pick that will potentially be for the Bengals, as Andy and I were talking, field position is huge in the NFL and we may have a game changer at the punter position;)

Now that is great to hear.

wow, great information guys. So who were the starting DT's, i saw the questioned asked but didnt see the answer.
I love the fact they're coming together as a team, so is it a fairly happy but motivated atmosphere at the camp, or is it more of a pure serious motivated etc? i know you said you didnt get any negative vibes, just trying to get more of a feel of the team in general.

Actually yes, Katie informed us when asked by 34, why so many teams passed on Rey, she said they think because he ran a little slower than some liked. She also said that they targeted Rey if they were to move back in the first round, when he fell into their lap in the 30's they were shocked and it was an easy decision.

They were very focused and serious when they were in their drills and lined up. They seemed in great spirits with eachother when they stretched and in between plays. I cannot recall any players off on their own like I did last year, again, this is only my impressions, but I am pretty sure we all noticed the same things.

Thats exactly what I wanted to hear. I'm thinking Tank will be one of the best of our new additions this season.
Did you notice anyone giving more? or going the extra mile to impress? I'm sure they all were working hard, but there is usually somebody that will stick out going above and beyond.

It just seemed a bit more clicky last year, and many more no shows like TJ, Chad, and several others I can recall. Other than Chad and Jeremi, I was surprised at the huge turn out for voluntaries. It is really spongy, a little springier than grass. One thing Eric noticed was that the tiger in the center of the field is actually woven through the field turf making it much denser than the rest of the field and raised about 3/4 of an inch in comparison.
It is far from grass though, much more consistant... and much warmer.

After seeing Coles and Palmer connecting like they were, I think you will see a lot of him this season. He is a good deal faster than TJ, but they had him running similar TJ-like routes and he looked great.

That's cool, noticing the picture you have of the field, the close up shot of the tiger you can kind of see that it is woven onto the turf. That's great to know because I always thought the tiger was painted on the field like the end zones are(Assuming they are painted.)

And with the knock on him not going all out every play, you just know the coaches are gonna dog him non-stop. That's what he needs, and he'll be stronger for it. Plus you gotta think he'll block a certain number of extra points/field goals. I wonder what the over/under on that would be?

I have to say this about Benson: there didn't seem to be anyone on that field more happy to be there than Cedric. I have to admit that I've been critical of our featured back previously, particularly for comments made comparing Houston's franchise to ours, but it was a tremendous revelation seeing him personally this week.
Some of the pics we've seen here were from a play action drill the QBs were running in one of the end zones. Rookie Billy Farris short-armed one of his play action fakes, which prompted the coaches to emphasize that issue to him (he did much better thereafter). Nearby, Benson was showing off his own play fake technique. I think it was Denny who humorously wondered aloud if a position change was in Cedric's future. He turned towards Denny and David and gave a huge smile. From behind the goal posts, I declared "Wildcat!" This time, Cedric turned my way, flashed the same big smile and pointed at me as if to say 'we're going to have some fun'.
Eventually, Cedric actually got in line with the QBs to go through the actual drill. Following is the pictures of his play fake which, unknown to me until I looked at the pics later, features Carson rushing the quarterback.

You go to an event like this and there's so many people you want to see and things you want to do, yet it's what you don't anticipate that really stands out. Yeah, meeting Carson Palmer was a tremendous experience and he's every bit the genuine, respectful individual he's made out to be. However, the players that made the biggest impact on me the last 2 years are Bobbie Williams last year, who was equally as friendly and outgoing this year, and Cedric Benson in 2009. I've never been a bigger Benson fan than I am right now.

LOL....I should probably clear that up a bit for fear that I may be seen as giving something away. B) He may very well have been just having a little fun by jumping in to the play action drill. He was there to catch passes for the QBs out of that drill first and foremost. We saw no wildcat formations or any kind of formal practice of the wildcat. I would not be surprised, though, if Benson spearheaded that formation for us should be choose to employ it. :smirk:

I'm not one to shower praise lightly, but I really can't be effusive enough in saying what great shots these are. It's really a photo-essay showing the way in which the personnel of this team has grown. It's a different team - bigger, smarter, more athletic, more focused, and seems like more of an NFL team, rather than a bunch of guys being big fish in a small pond. Excellent work.

That's great news, and it's what we needed. If every player on the team had Palmer's attitude, we would win it all.

Denny,
I must say, this is one of the best threads I have seen on this site. Phenomenal pictures. I can sense the excitement from members of this site. I know it sounds weird, but you can almost see the new work ethic and "fun" the guys are having on the field through these pictures. This team seems determined. That is something that you cannot teach or coach. It has to come from a team that has a goal in mind and the will to achieve it. I'm glad I moved into club seats this year.
I really appreciate your answers to everyone's questions and insight as to the mood.
How was the O-line functioning? In one of the pictures, it almost seems like Whitworth was giving a lesson/instruction to Livings. Others were listening in. Did you get the sense that Whitworth is leading that O-line?

Thanks to you both for the awesome photos. Denny, I noticed you said you didn't see anything negative. Did you see Brat there? What was your impression?

This is a question I've always wanted to ask:
What is the fieldturf like at Paul Brown Stadium? Is there even a comparsion between it and grass? Or is it completely different?
I live in tampa and i am over at the Tropicana Field at least once or twice a month walking on the field turf. And i have to say that although it does not fill just like grass i personally believe that it would be better to play on. It fills like you are walking on a 3" cushion. The worst part about field turf is that when you are done walking on it you have pieces of tire everywhere. One time after walking on the field i came home and took a shower right after and once i was done in the bottom of the shower was a bunch of pieces of black rubber.

I went to a Ray Guy Kicking Academy thing at Tulane university where they used the stuff you're talking about (I think). The field was really bouncy and comfortable to play on (or kick off of, at least lol) but you did have little bits of black rubber flying around at times.

Great pics guys - thanks for sharing.
I could always tell Jordan and Carson apart but in that picture with their helmets on I had to look at their #s. Maybe we could trade "Carson" and get a 1st rounder then just tell the real Carson that his name is now Jordan.
We need a picture of Denny next to Michael Johnson! I think his neck may be longer than Denny's legs. :denny:
