Mike Adam's is the #1 player in the state is the beast lineman 6'7" 305 that OSU needs at RT. Ben Buchanan is a good kicker/punter out of Westerville. I got to see him in high school action twice last year. I am very please where this class seems to be headed.

Not testy..I just don't see the point in coming into this thread and bashing the Buckeyes. If you don't like the Buckeyes...fine! Go to a thread (like in Smack Talk) or make your own thread bashing the bucks. This one is for recruiting and what you posted has nothing to do with Buckeye recruting. The only reason you posted this was to be an arse. Just not very mature of you.

Got a old officer of mine sent me an e-mail on how horrible Ohio State was this year (because of Florida) and how bad we will be this season because of everyone going to the draft. I had to remind him about all the recruits Ohio State gets and how no matter who leaves we are always good. The example i used... Hawk. Carpetner. Sclegal (spelling) leaving and how bad the defense was suppossed to be because of that got him to start talking from his mouth and not his arse:)

He may be good but to compare him to Bush is a little premature...there nothing alike!!

I said at BEST he was like Bush, at worst he's Hall. They have similar traits, but I'm not prepared to say he's going to be the best ever. Just point out he has good potential.

Once again we get someone that wants to talk smack in the wrong forum. First of all I would suggest you learn how to capitalize words that require that. I am sure they probably don't teach anything like this at the school up North though. Second, why not trying to start your very own thread about recruiting for that school you seem to love so much? Maybe thatnis because you would be the only one in that thread?

Just curious! [:D]

Dang it, I wanted to be the first to mention that.

This friend has sent us game tape over email of Storm, he is ridiculous. The kid is strong as an ox. Yet another example of Tressel being the genius he is going out and finding these uber-quick muscle-bound running backs and converting them into tackling machines at LB.

God, I love Saturdays.

He has an entire staff that does recruiting with him....yes..he can recruit...but heck...I could recruit for OSU...the school and the program sells itself.

I just think we need to give credit to the entire staff and not just Tressel. It makes me mad when I hear things like "Tressel sure can coach LBs" And other statements that attribute things to him that may not be his doing.

I know it's not a one-man job but I was just picking one person, obviously that's Tressel. I don't know enough about the other recruiters to even name them by name.

Bottom line is we recruit well and yes I agree the program sells itself. Thank God we have someone who can coach though because another program that sells itself (SOMEHOW) is Notre Dame.

Luke Fickell is an amazing LB coach, he keeps this up and he'll be a DC somewhere. They had the Ohio State/Penn State game from 1996 on the other day, and I got to see him, Vrabes, Bellisari (the good one), Winfield, Hoying and Eddie George. It was a good game.

Tressel does better at recruiting than many give him credit for. He's the one that says we are going to control the state of Ohio in recruiting. Most of the country was like "so what, do it, you'll lose." It is only now that the rest of the country realize that Ohio is a hotspot for talent.

The school sells itself to SOME recruits, but others aren't as easy. Turks right, he doesn't deserve all the credit, but I give him every bit that I can.

Ohio State received verbale # 14 from Sabino the top rated ILB in the country he's from Florida and a good one.

The Buckeyes have won a big recruiting battle over USC as Miami (Fla.) Krop linebacker Etienne Sabino, appearing at halftime of the Tennessee-Samford game on ESPN U, has made public his commitment to Ohio State. Sabino becomes verbal commitment No. 14 in an OSU recruiting class that is expected to number at least 16 on national signing day.

Etienne Sabino has very good size and is a very physical player. Sabino is at his best when things come his way. He sheds blockers well and knows how to fight through traffic and make the play. He is a sound tackler and a big hitter at times. He attacks with aggression and takes good angles. Sabino does move well laterally and has the ability to chase things down.
One of the top linebacker prospects in the entire state of Florida, Sabino finished his junior season with 131 tackles and eight sacks; he benches 370 pounds and has a 32-inch vertical jump.

Sweet!! Does he have any more visits remaining? Anyone know? This verbal commitment could fall by the wayside if he goes somewhere else and is wowed. It's happened in the past so I'm just curious if anyone knows if he has said, "no more visits"...? But this is big. Rivals.com loves this guy. I can't believe how fast he is.

I agree. On national tv it's pretty likely, especially being a senior. And especially having a teammate who's already committed to OSU as well. The only reason I brought it up was, and now I can't remember his name, there was a LB committed to another big name school a couple years ago and during the high-school all-star game changed his declaration and went to Tennessee instead. But I think things like that are the exception, not the rule, obviously.

Linebacker U strikes again baby!

What do you guys think of Terrelle Pryor ?

He is considering OSU.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oE-TH096R-8

Pryor has great size and good quickness and speeed. He shows a good arm and great athletic ability in the pocket. He is a “Vince Young” type of signal caller in that is very dangerous in the open field because he has the ability to make a move or run right through would be tacklers. As a passer Pryor shows a good arm and can throw with accuracy and touch.

Rivals.com has him as the top recruit in the nation as a Junior. He's definitely got the size. 6'6" 230 pounds. He throws for a lot of touchdowns but runs for even more. The only problem I see is the td/int ratio. His junior year it was 15 td's and 11 int's. A scrambling qb might tend to throw on the run which could lead to more int's I suppose. I would gladly take the int problem considering all his strengths

I just salivate when I think what this kid could do with Tressel's coaching.

Remember Troy Smith was a run first QB, and then he was taught to go through his progressions and run only when absolutely necessary.

I think if Pryor is given that kind of coaching, he'll be receptive to it. Most coaches will go the Vince Young route and let the do whatever they want, just as long as they win, but when they get to the NFL their passing is exposed.

I like how Tressel has handled the QBs as of late.

He rushed for 1,676 yards on 197 attempts (8.7 average). He completed 92 of 163 passes for 1,732 yards. He threw for 15 touchdowns and scored 29, including one as a receiver.

Rich Rodriguez is getting on my nerves already. They said he called a recuit before he even announced he was going to UM. And you know who that was. Terrelle Pryor. They just got Mallet they better not steal this kid from us. I think Pryor took WVU off his list too. Hopefully Tressel will sell him on the fact that he will win the Heisman for sure if he commits. And I really dont wanna see this guy at UM.

Pryor said he wants to see Ohio State run the spread more before he makes his decision.

Antonio Henton was promoted to backup QB behind Boeckman and Schoenhoft was switched to TE (yes Tight End).

It could be possible that Tress could throw some spread gadget plays into the game to show what we can do.

Thats nutz they switched him to TE. Where did you hear that at?

They might have some inside info that Pryor is coming if they did all that. Or their just acting like they did all those things to make him more interested.

I wouldnt mind seeing some new looks thrown out there in the championship game. But you never know what could happen.

There is a radio show here in Columbus called "Shark on Sports." Sometimes they have Jeff Logan on there he was a RB for us back in the day and he still gets some inside information from the school.

Tress said it is just for scouting and practice purposes, but it is hard to believe that if the team looks good in that formation that it won't become permanent.

It really had nothing to do with Pryor, it is just for the game against LSU. However, if we see some spread formations in the NC game it's hard to believe that it isn't to try to impress Pryor. However, I'd be surprised because that's not really Tress' style.

College football: OSU gets its fourth 2009 commitment

Saturday, December 29, 2007 3:03 AM
By Tim May (tmay@dispatch.com)

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Jack Mewhort yesterday became the fourth prospect to commit to Ohio State's recruiting class of 2009, and he said there was a good reason why he decided to pull the trigger so early.

"I couldn't think of a reason not to," said the 6-foot-6, 285-pound offensive lineman, a junior at Toledo St. John. "I got offered last Friday and I really had to hold myself back from committing right then."

Recruiting analyst Bill Kurelic said he has never seen anything like this: Four players are committed to the 2009 class even before Ohio State has finished its 2008 class, which has 16 members headed possibly to 18 on signing day in February.
"It shows that, with most of the 2008 class already in the fold, the coaches have turned their attention to next year," said Kurelic, who projects Mewhort to be the No. 1 line prospect in the state next season.

I think we have a 50/50 shot still. If Mallet is truly leaving all that does is make Rich's plea to Pryor even stronger, but if Pryor is considering OSU that shouldn't matter. It's going to be one of two places, unfortunately the other place is our most hated enemy.

Tomorrow is Commitment Day but it's not required 100% (think about it, anyone going to turn down Terrell Pryor if he waits a couple weeks??) but he's changed his mind recently (according to rivals.com and sportsillustrated.com) and will announce tomorrow starting around noon.

And Oregon is officially off his radar list, he told their coaches that yesterday. It's down to two teams: THE Ohio State University and some team up north.

This time tomorrow I will have suffered heart failure...one way or another.

Sweet.

They also retracted the full ride for RB DeVoe Torrence after some off the field problems and academic questions surfaced.

So where does he go to school then now ?

Michigan is 2nd followed by Mich St, Pitt, Cin, Purdue, Mississippi, Indiana, Penn State

Pryor is declaring tomorrow. Cross your fingers, folks. A pryor/McGuffie combo on Michigan would be destructively horrible.

:scared2:

I really hope maybe he doesnt want to share the spotlight with Sam and chooses OSU.

The Mallett decision really scared me. :nervous:
Hopefully the Henton/Schoenhoft situation only counters it.

I would be surprised to see Torrence get an offer from another major college program. He will likely have to play Junior College ball and transfer or go to a MAC school or something that can afford to take the risk.

As for Pryor, if he declares tomorrow, great, if not, as far as I'm concerned he can get lost. I don't want another diva running around THE Ohio State University. I mean Kenyon Rambo, #13 etc, enough is enough, either you want to play for us or you don't.

I still want him to come here but he is being a little diva-ish right now. He's apparently decided not to announce today because he hasn't visited Penn State yet. Give me a break dude. If Penn State was really the answer you would have made at least one visit prior to Announcement Day!

i read that the penn state visit was because his dad asked him too. i can respect that, but i dont think he has any idea what he wants. one day he says he likes oregon and wants to visit and the next he says he is ruling them out. then one day he is definitely going to osu or um and the next day he isnt sure and wants to visit psu. the kid has no idea what he wants and is going to miss a lot of valuable spring practice and drill time regardless of where he goes

Well where the he.. has Papa Pryor been? You tell your kid the day before Announcement Day that you wish he'd check out this one last school? Joe-Pa went to visit him a month ago. The kid (and his dad) have had plenty of oppourtunities to check it out. This is just another unnecessary publicity stunt. Just decide (to go to OSU) already.

Yes, the Buckeyes have 16 commitments (insert by me: 10 of which are on the ESPN Top 150 Watch List) and this class is very strong, but we cannot put Ohio State ahead of LSU (insert by me: with 12) and Georgia (insert by me: with 11) until these prospects prove their worth on the field.

It certainly doesn't make sense to me.

Granted, LSU and Georgia are in the SEC and the SEC as a whole is a stronger conference but OSU is an elite program. All 3 schools are probably about equal when discussing powerhouses.

I can't come up with a good reason why OSU's players have to prove themselves on the field while the LSU and UGA players don't...unless there is a bias.

Linebacker Dorian Bell is one of 10 ESPN 150 Watch List prospects committed to Ohio State.
Yes, the Buckeyes have 16 commitments and this class is very strong, but we cannot put Ohio State ahead of LSU and Georgia until these prospects prove their worth on the field. Outside linebacker Dorian Bell (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) is a special talent and will fill needed depth once he arrives. Center Jack Mewhort (Toledo, Ohio/St. John) is very underrated and talented. Defensive front help is a need and DE Melvin Fellows (Garfield Heights, Ohio) and DT John Simon (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney) are both excellent additions. Wide receiver Chris Fields (Painesville, Ohio/Thomas W. Harvey) can run and has return abilities as well.

The only worry is that he may not have good enough grades to make the team, which would force him to go to junior college, go to another program, or try and lift those grades somehow, but OSU is confident it will work out.

As far as Marlon Brown, we still have a shot, but it's a very slim one.

I just heard and interview with James "Flash" Johnson and he said he models himself after Ted Ginn Jr. Interestingly enough, his speed is fairly similar to Ginn's. He's already enrolled and should take part in spring ball as well.

I wasn't pretty impressed with the way the kid conducted himself in the interview as well.

No kidding!

Geez could you imagine if he did sign? Our stable of WRs...

Devier Posey
Duron Carter
James "flash" Johnson

Chris Fields
Corey Brown

Everyone is forgetting Stoneburner

Not forgetting him at at all, but he's supposed to play TE.

He was a WR/TE hybrid coming out of High School. However, Tressel was unable to lockup a lot of TEs this year, so look for Stoneburner to be their atheletic pass catching TE option.

Last I heard he does not want to play TE. They hardly ever catch the ball at OSU so I don't blame him.

I can't say as I would blame him either, but with the influx of WR that could immediately compete for playing time, he might change his mind.

And the rich get richer. They just got their 3rd Verbal for 2010 in Top 10 Ohio class of 2010 prospect Cincinnati Anderson offensive lineman Andrew Norwell.

They already have verbals from linebacker Jamel Turner from Youngstown (Ohio) Ursuline and defensive end J.T, Moore from Youngstown (Ohio) Boardman, both considered Ohio Top 10 prospects for next year.

People on Bucknuts are now saying Brown is apparently headed to UGA. But by my clock he isn't set to announce for another 24 minutes, so we'll see.

Yeah, I have a buddy who has talked to Jake(good guy).

Basically he said he was OK with moving to TE, but the quote is "If they don't throw to me I'm ****ed" lol

Georgia for Marlon Brown.

It would've been nice, but in the end we really only have 3 WRs on the field anyway. Right now that's looking to be Carter, Posey and Sazenbacher (maybe Small if he gets out of the doghouse). If we would've gotten Brown, one of those guys would've had to red-shirt or slide down the depth chart which means they might transfer.

OSU hasn't been a major player for Brown in weeks IMO. Great class for UNC today :D Despite not having any surprises :(

I'm excited about our receivers even though we didn't get Brown.

I personally don't think Carter will get that much play time early, it's hard for receivers to learn a system in their first year.

He'll probably get about as much play time as Posey did though, but Posey didn't really play much until late in the year, and wasn't our 3rd/4th receiver until the bowl game.

I think Posey will probably be #1, then you got a fight between Lamaar Thomas, Dane Sanzenbacher, and Ray Small for #2

I would think our top 4 would be like Posey - Small - Thomas - Sanzenbacher

Then it will be duked out by Duron Carter, Chris Fields, James Jackson, Taurian Washington(sleeper).

Looks like a VERY exciting group though

edit: forgot to mention, Jake Stoneburner, who will probably be used in a Flex formation, when he isn't being used at TE.

I think Washington wins a job outright this year...either #2 or #3 receiver...

I really believe this kid is about to have the light come on...
