What are you crazy. Well first of all we would only draft Offense if there was a truely special player avaible like Darren Mcfadden. Second of all what TE is good enough to be drafted inthe first round? I have not seen any TE that would be worthy of a first round pick. Third of all i seen Coates fitting into that role in time. Look at what matt shobel did when he was on the team. so we do not need to spend a pick like that for somebody who is going to do nothing.

Noooo, Carson throws to his TE like once every other game!.

due to bad and predictable play calling. All of the Bengals that made it to the SB had a really good TE (with hands).

#1 pick should be for a DE. Get consistent pressure on the QB and our defense will improve. #2 pick can go towards a TE and we can still get a good pass catching TE in that round.
Also it's a lot easier to get a TE through FA than trying to obtain a DE. TE's are still reasonably priced in the FA market where as any DE who even sniffed 10 sacks in one season will be asking for around $7 Mil per season...

Whether we take a DE or DT depends on who is available and whether we're finally going to take the plunge and go with a 3-4 base. Do we have a big enough DT (Peko?) to play nose in a 3-4? If Marvin thinks Peko is big and strong enough, then we'll grab a DE who is size large like Chris Long. Otherwise, a monster DT is on the menu.

People have to stop talking about the 3-4 we do not have anybody to play the 3-4 Are LBs are not built to play a 3-4 maybe some of are converted linemen but we do not have the Inside LB's for it. We do not have a Nose tackle for it we are a few years away from converting if we would.

The key to a 3-4 is the line, the LBs aren't that different from a 4-3.
If we were to go 3-4, we would have to:
1. Keep Justin Smith, he's a prototypical 3-4 DE
2. Move Peko to DE or draft/sign another 3-4 DE
3. Draft a NT, I don't think Grady Jackson is the answer here folks
We've got two ILB in Brooks and Schlegel and some combo of Johnson, Jeanty, Miller, and Geathers at OLB.
But it's not gonna happen... Smith is most likely getting his walking papers after this year and we didn't re-sign Geathers to play LB. Not to mention that finding a NT is no easy task Just look at the Cowboys, Rattlif goes down and they sign a guy while he's suspended because there was nobody else out there.
We're gonna stick with the 4-3 and we need to find another DT to go with Peko. Peko is a good #1 DT but he would be a great #2. Think Chad and TJ, if we get him a partner in crime then our run D will be in better shape. And if we can replace Justin with a solid edge rusher that will boost the passing D.

With probally a top 5 draft pick we should go DT-DE-LB in the first three rounds of this years draft.

Justin Smith has said himself that he doesn't fit into the 3-4 scheme

Why?
isn't it clear yet to anyone that drafting defense first doesn't improve this team any? we have ignored the offense the last 3 years in the first round and at least we do have people that can judge talent on the offensive side of the ball, not sure about the defensive side of the ball. 10 of 13 draft picks taken on the first day of the draft were defensive players....how has the defense improved with those picks? I'm tired of wasting 1st round draft picks on players that aren't very good, at least let us draft an offensive guy who we know will be good because we actually have a scout out there somewhere that is good at offensive players.
I bet if we draft a defensive player in the first round but keep the same defensive coaches on this team we will still be in the bottom half of the league in defense

Marvin has had 5 drafts how many TE's has he drafted in the 1st rd. none. 3-4 D we are having a hard enough time coming up with 3 LB's to run the 4-3 let alone coming up with 4 to run the 3-4 I know it would not be this year but with the LB problem we had the last 2 years last year and this year to run the 3-4 next year we would need 8 LB's 4 starters 4 backups.

You do make a solid point on the drafting of defense early. Although Joseph and Hall seem to be good picks, even though Hall is taking a few lumps this season. Peko was a 4th, Geathers was a 4th, Nuke was a 7th, Landon Johnson was a 3rd.
Maybe we should trade down out of the first and second and try to end up with half a dozen 3rd and 4th round picks.
I'm not entirely serious there, but I'm always a big proponent of trading down for more picks and getting a slew of late first, second, and early third round picks and then playing the percentages.

I still think we should get a health miller or greg olsen type te. Then go for defense and a couple of good O-lineman. I been saying this for years that we need a pass catching te!

You'll probably be saying it for another year.
I've been saying we need some D-Linemen for years. I'm hoping we go for some linemen in the first couple of rounds. Then maybe an O-lineman or two, and a kick returner/receiver.
