Man, you get called out of the office for a minute and Crosby returns a punt for a TD, I need to leave the office more often.

08-27-2009, 07:55 PM
Yeah they went right down the field. We were able to get good pressure on the QB but they were able to get first down after first down anyway.

WhoDeyMatt
08-27-2009, 07:55 PM
Samkon Gado had a nice drive there. Bengals were overpursuing every time he got on the field. 7-7.

WhoDeyMatt
08-27-2009, 07:55 PM
Roy Williams looks really slow out there.

He looked lost on that pass to Curry.

crap quality, but....

Thanks for the link, but our internet is really bad. Afn is only showing the Bucs - Dolphins game, so I will have to just watch the football move left and right all night.

Wow, defense kind of got walked on there, but hopefully they will pull out a stop next time, it happens.

sack

WhoDeyMatt
08-27-2009, 07:59 PM
O'Sully sacked on the first play of the drive. Pressure came from the left side of the line. Looked like a safety, but the sound keeps going in and out on the broadcast.

Second play: botched exchange, fumbled, Laurinaitis recovers. First and ten St. Louis from the Bengals 20.

TheBengals

Deja-vu from last season on offense already.

WhoDeyMatt
08-27-2009, 08:01 PM
First play of St. Louis drive: Gado rushes right, maybe a yard.

Second play: Boller scrambles for about 10, gets damn near decapitated by Keith Rivers as he slides, very reminiscent of Trent Green and Robert Geathers.

jace4655
08-27-2009, 08:02 PM
wow massive hit by rivers

WhoDeyMatt
08-27-2009, 08:02 PM
Boller pass to robinson complete to the 5. First and goal.

Next play: Gado rushes to the 2.

2nd and goal: From shotgun, Boller shovel pass to Gado, TD.

UGH.

this turned ugly quick. D opened strong and went to sleep after that punt return.

Our O certainly didnt help them though.

id say it looks like this is what happens when O'Sullivan faces a first team defense, he didnt see one in New Orleans, he didnt do much last week with the Patriots and now this

Yeah, I should probably be glad that I can't see this more clearly.

I can see enough to know that the Bengals are playing very sloppy tonight. This is a terrible team they are playing yet they are down 2 scores, mostly due to turnovers. Marvin is going to have plenty of rear-ends to chew out after tonight's game.

It is the biggest cliche in football but it's true - turnovers will kill you.

WhoDeyMatt
08-27-2009, 08:30 PM
Check that. 31.

1st and 10: Play action pass to Coats for about 12.

1st and 10 from the 43: Leonard run to the right no gain. Nice play by Witherspoon.

2nd and 10: Incomplete pass, dropped by Caldwell. Would have gone for about 25.

1st down from Rams 44: Leonard for 2.

2nd down, Rams 42: O'Sullivan pass intended for Leonard tipped at the line. Incomplete.

3rd down: tipped AGAIN. But there's a flag on the play; defensive holding, 5 yards, first down from the Rams 37.

Is it just me or is our O-line blowing tonight? And every time i see a TFL i get madder and madder that AS isnt signed

Actually, to me the offensive line has not looked that bad tonight. They have protected the QB well and have created some big holes, particularly on the right side. The problems have been the center position (botched snap and holding call on a big gainer) and the turnovers. It may not be a world class offensive line, but they are holding their own at least. It is not like the disaster it was much of last year.

Defense needs to step it up although 14 points off turnovers isn't really on them. Offensive line is opening holes in the running game but pass blocking doesn't look good. Blitz and you will get there 3 out of 4 times. I like the fact we are only down by 7.

not that its saying much but at least no regular starters have been causing the turnovers,

O'Sullivan probably wont play again unless Palmer is hurt and the team would be in trouble anyway with anyone but Palmer starting, Bernard Scott probably wont be seeing much playing time as a rookie anyway but naturally rookies make rookie mistakes anyway which he did with the fumble and this is pretty much Jordan Palmer's season right now anyway since he's gonna be buried 3rd on the depth chart

the game doest seem to be that bad concidering we dont have our qb yet again. i mean there are alot of mistakes but so far with just backups in im impressed. The only key mistake aside from trivial things was that 73 yard fumble recov for a td for them. I must say i am vry impressed with the punt returners. They seem to be doing well. Yeah you can say STL isnt that good of a team but 3 punt returns for alot of yards 44 long and a 49 long and a td. Thats comforting. Im impressed with cosby. both of them really. Andre need to get a contract and tell his agent to stop being a *****. hes fat and has man boobs.. hes out of shape and yes I think he will help us greatly but look at sanchez.. hes sucking it up.. the nfl needs a new way to deal with first round picks. we are getting the shaft due to sanchez and his rediculous contract. Id give him a dollar to play for me. then cut him cause he blows so far. Id rather have eli and his draft day antics over sanchez anyday. But i hope for the best. We need carson. we need andre to kick his stupid antics . we need our team to play as a team.

Then the Bengals will never be good. I know Palmer is the franchise player but you need to be able to compete even if your star QB goes down. This team would probably fold up it's tent and go home if Palmer were lost for the season again. That is not how a good team responds. You may need to change how you play but if you are any good then you will still be a good team.

Look at the Patriots last year - lost a guy who was coming off of the best season in NFL history and they still finished 11-5. That's why, no matter who is playing QB, the rest of the team needs to play well, not turn the ball over and find other ways to win games.

This isn't a real game. I think they are trying to decide tonight who they are going to get rid of at RB. I mean they are barely passing the ball.

Still, that's no excuse for the overall terrible play (yay Chris Henry TD!). Hopefully the theory that a lot of players are overplaying has some truth and they'll settle down when it counts.

I will say this, they need to come out and get things done this week in practice and play well in the 4th preseason game or they will be lacking some confidence.

That's why, no matter who is playing QB, the rest of the team needs to play well, not turn the ball over and find other ways to win games.

well that's also on good drafting and good coaching, Cassel was from a pro system at USC, of course henever played but he had exposure to the system there and pretty much carried that knowledge over to New England where he learned even more and when he finally had his chance he did well for himself, granted he had a lot better andm ore around him than most backups but the Bengals havent really drafted an understudy to be put into a role like that and have only signed these waiver wire backups that havent translated into anything

for example like Fitzpatrick who looks like he has an arm for a West Coast offense and didnt have the arm strength to follow a pass heavy playbook like the Bengals run and we all saw what happened from that, Chad's longest catch all year was only 26 yards

2nd and 23: GOOD GOD, another flag?! What the hell? Holding, but the penalty's declined. Scott's run for 2 counts. Make it 3rd and 21.

3rd and 21: Bengals call a much-needed time out so the coaching staff can explain to everyone what they're doing wrong, which is basically sucking at life.

Man kudos to you WhoDeyMatt for your updates. I'm watching it on tv but im sure those without tv orradio are grateful!!

Complete to who? This is literally the first time I've seen or heard that name.

He's one of the TEs we signed last week. He played in Oakland before coming here.

Henry seems to shine no matter who the QB is......

3rd and 21: Bernard Scott has an amazing run where he stiffarms one guy and dives over another. May have gotten... YES. Got the first down!

1st and 10 from the 26: Jordan Palmer complete to Faschi for 20.

1st and 10 from the 46: Deep ball to Henry. TD.

Complete to who? This is literally the first time I've seen or heard that name.

Haaa - I love it.

Earlier I talk about Leonard lacking speed/quickness and then he breaks off a nice run.

Now, I bash Jordan and he responds with a nice throw over the middle followed by a long TD to Henry.

I really know my football!!

this drive has a lot of people with their feet in their mouths

1 good drive with the 2nd stringers doesn't erase 3 bad ones with 1st.

Mods, please delete any "Jordan should be our 2nd string QB" threads so that we can protect those that suggested this from public embarrassment.

Thank you.

Tip for the younger Palmer - Holding onto the ball too long on your own goal line then fumbling as soon as someone gets near you makes us all suspect you are only on the team because big bro is the franchise player.

He has a pretty good arm but needs alot of work...while I dont think he should be our #2 or that his name doesnt help him ,I do think that he has potential and could end up being an alright backup that could come in and win a game or 2 in the future.
