like a walking mountain. he got a penalty for pushing his block too far down the field on a pass play.

I thought he might do good. I think once he figures it out he could be very good. He is a huge athletic man and you dont teach that. He can just push people around

Let's hope this turns out to be a genius decision.

LMAO thats awesome....I guess if you're going to get a penalty thats the one to get. I didn't even know you could get flagged for that, not sure we ever had that problem before.:hmm:

Lord knows we haven't had enough of those in the past since PB passed. This is a good time to start again.

Seriously, I've never heard that one before.
We need to train him to pancake the first guy, release, then find the next guy to pancake. When he gets there, he will be awesome!

I do agree that Shirly has great potential and great athleticism. I'm just hoping it doesn't become another Stacy Andrews project thing where he rides the pine, rides the organization for a big payday, and then rides off into the sunset.

Exactly true! This is a high class problem and it's easily fixed. If Jason Shirley is that aggressive then look out! This is a genius decision because I think converting a defensive lineman to the offensive line is good for several reasons. First, Jason thinks like a defensive lineman so he knows instinctively what the defensive lineman now lined up against him will do. He's already in their head. Next, Jason has a natural instinct to drive forward or at certain angles to get to the quarterback or stuff a run so directional blocking should be easy for him to pick up. Finally, he makes the team this way. The defensive line is too deep this year -- another high class problem -- and Jason would not make it on that side of the football.
Let me conclude with another defensive-offensive switcheroo: To know what wide receivers are thinking and doing, I've always believed cornerbacks and safeties need to line up in practice in the wide receiver positions and run pass routes. They should learn them all! In this way they learn how a receiver thinks, runs the route, and then anticipates where the football will arrive.

when people where ridiculing the move to G, Kris Dielman pro bowl G for San Diego made the move i believe spent first year on PS as DT then G second year.
and that pan cake against the Pats was impressive and wasnt against a scrub it was their 2nd round pick Ron Brace who is expected to get alot of playing time this year

I find it really sad that a makeshift defensive tackle to Guard makes the best blocker we have. This guy is an absolute beast, he moves people and puts them on the ground. More than I can say about Whitworth or Gus Parrish.

It's called an inelligible man downfield.

Or not.:nervous:
The others waived were White, Lynch, Pressley, Vakapuna, guard Jason Shirley...
He could return to the practice squad if noone claims him off waivers, but I bet some other team is willing to take a shot at him.
