Ever since Pete has been our manager (4 games) it seems like we have had this fire underneath our butts to play well, and well believe it or not, we have won 2 out of 3 games that he has managed.
I know its just 3 games but it seems like we are finally playing with heart, something it seemed like they did not have when Jerry was here. I honestly think if we keep swinging our bats they way they are now and our Starting Pitchers actually pitch well, we could get back into this wildcard hunt scenario, I know it is a long shot, but hey it can happen.

Jerry Narron took over a team that was 27-43 in 2005 and started 3-0, then won 4 of his forst 5 and 10 of his first 13. He also managed to go 46-46 in that season, so we've seen this before. Sorry, but this team is finished. It's just a matter of which players won't have to suffer through the rest of the season in Cincy by getting traded before the deadline. The powerful offense is too inconsistent to overcome the poor pitching, especially out of the bullpen.

The Reds and Bengals have reversed roles over the last few years. At least football season will be starting soon.

If the Reds pull themselves anywhere NEAR .500 at the close of this season we won't be looking for a new manager. As a team they would have to win like 70% of their games the rest of the way out.... tough to do even with the best team in the majors.

Now, I will say the Reds h ave been playing with a little enthusiasm since Narron was gone. I have actually seen some players smiling on the field and running out ground balls since the switch!!! Narron couldn't lead ants to sugar, it is why he isn't fit for managing, he is gone and who we have now is an improvement.

I have been wrestling with something though, and hear me out; If we did turn it around and go 55-30 the rest of the way out and really followed the lead of the new manager, I am not sure what I would want. Would I want to keep him and pray it wasn't another example of fools gold? Would I really want us to pass on Torre or Piniella or Larussa or another proven big name? I am really not sure what I would want in that situation... But I don't think I will run into that problem sadly.

I think with Jerry Narron, you could tell it was pure luck. He wanted to be Tony LaRussa, but with a bullpen that was like the AAA team of the Cardinals. I loved the man because he turned it around, and then he put us in position to grab a playoff spot, but I couldn't figure out why. I knew it wasn't how he managed his pitchers, or how he changed his lineup more times than a hypochondriac visits a doctor.

With Mackanin, I know he's not the greatest motivator. And I know he doesn't have the best laid out plans. But, dang it, they're better than Narron's and they are actually thought out plans ahead of time. He knows he wants to keep every member of his bullpen pitching at least every 3 days. He knows that he wants to send down Homer Bailey to keep him sharp for his next start after the All-Star Weekend. He knows what his batting order is, who his players are and when to use them. He knows how long is too long for a pitcher.

Aside from leaving Coffey in for three batters, I can not have disagreed with any of his moves to date.

And that's really all I want out of a manager. Now it's up to the GM and owner to put some MAJOR LEAGUE talent on this club...

BTW, this 4 game win streak is the longest of the season, and this is the first series sweep of the 2007 season.

At least we can stick to the motto that "We'll be great in 2008"...I hope...

This offseason is basically the biggest spending money we will ever have practically, Kyle Loshe's contract will be up, ERIC MILTON's contract is gone right there I believe that is roughly 25-30 Million dollars, and if you trade Dunn that is $43 MILLION DOLLARS we have to spend, on a Catcher, Short-Stop, and oh yeah.. PITCHING!!! Also, if Wayne decides he wants to win, he can spend of our money (Reds Ticket Sales Money) and his Money, then we could build a.... DYNASTY!
Doubt that with our ballpark but it was worth a shout-out.

I hope they go straight into the tank in a major way. Any real season is over as far as playoff are concerned and the only thing we stand to lose now is the chance at getting a real major league manager in the offseason. I like Girardi a lot. He won't take anyone's garbage. In the meantime, let's get this fire sale show on the road for crying out loud. The sooner we unload any of our "good" players, the better the chance that we acheive our highest loss total by season's end. If we can get a ham sandwich for that useless, one tool player in left, then I say take it. Maybe the Nats have some joke reliever with rotator cuff issues that Krivsky will bite on. Junior deserves better, so send him back to the AL so he can DH for a contender. I'm a bit disgruntled if you couldn't tell.

I think if we're going to get rid of Dunn to any team, it'd be Washington.

Jim Bowden LOVES his own players, and will overpay if you actually negotiate rather than pull the trigger on a trade that never should have happened...

After last year we will never trade with Washington ever again with getting Garbage Gary Majewski would have banged up when he came over here and oh yeah Washington has zero prospects.
Dunn and Griffey are not going anywhere. Dunn will be a free agent at the end of the year if he is traded, and Griffey is chasing 600 and puts the butts in the seats. I don't see anybody getting traded, which stinks because Griffey, Dunn and Conine are holding back the likes of a Jay Bruce and Joey Votto.

I've said it before and I'll say it again the ballpark has never been the problem. The other team plays on the same field and the Reds are often held to under 3 or 4 runs at home. What it comes down to is a strong bullpen and ground ball pitchers. I know we have heard it forever but fly ball pitchers will have a much harder time winning at GABP than a ground ball pitcher. So is the ballpark at fault for the Reds poor record? No, but it is a factor. We have pitchers that wouldn't succeed in Detroit's park let alone GABP. Once again, I just look at how teams with goop pitching hold our hitters down, if we had the same type pitchers we would win at home too.
