I hope Marvin gets over his hard *** for Henry. It is time for him to start, Good God you don't leave Randy Moss Henry on the bench. Coles wondered what he is doing here, so am I. Three receiver set Chad, Henry, Caldwel in the slot. Do it and watch this offence go.

I would like to see Ocho, and Henry lined up wide with Coles in the slot, rotating with Caldwell. JMO

Coles looked like crap, why wasn't Henry in. If he does bad too then give Caldwell a shot he looked good against Denver.

You got to be kidding me. The season has started and Marvin is still dealing with personnel issues!!:frown: If he don't win this season he's finished. Get ready for John Gruden. Carson Palmer has hardley played in the past two years. He's gone too!! Ocho is gone too!!! Mike Brown still living in his fathers past. That lost this past week was shameful.

Watch them run watch them catch. I don't believe Henry can be single covered. Look at what he has done when he gets the ball. Coles should split time in the slot.

I've seen him run, and I've seen him catch. Aside from size, he is no Randy Moss. Sorry.

the problem is we are going for this run first style offense and
getting away from what made us successful and that's pass to
set up the run. this limits the amount of pass plays called
which limits playing time for the wr core..
we might be a little too deep right now barring injury.
depth is a good thing, but it can also limit touches..

I would love to see Henry get a shot to start. I think if Henry starts versus Denver we are 1-0 right now. Marvin's ego cost us a win.

If he wasn't injured he may have had more snaps but i agree he should have been in a bit more...

Three receiver set Chad, Henry, Caldwel in the slot. Do it and watch this offence go.I hate to say it, but Coles did drop some pretty important passes against Denver. But then again, Chad made some mistakes that hurt us too. You just can't get past "The human factor"--Things happen, like a tipped pass that broke our backs. But, at least the Bengals were fighting hard & had a good chance to win it. Would Chris Henry have made the differance? It's very possible. The kid has looked pretty good this pre-season. It's tough to put a free-agent receiver like Coles at the 3rd spot, when he's always been the star of his past offenses. Henry is behind Chad on the depth chart, so Henry would have to learn an entire playbook of different responsabilities on the other side of the field. He already knows 2 of the 3 phases, & maybe all of it, as long as he's been here. (plenty of time to study--in between busts) Oh well, maybe it is just a grudge Marvin has on him, but I don't think he would hurt his team's chance to win because of a grudge. Coles has always been a great reciever, maybe it's just his timing with Palmer, that caused the problem---who knows?

Marvin has had a ton of injury problems with most of his starters. It's tough for Palmer to control the game, when he's laying on the turf. He has needed a healthy O-Line since his arrival here. The Steelers QB looks so good because he has all day to throw. & welcome to the boards Mike!

OK, for all of the Madden Newbies here:
In the Bengals scheme, Chad plays the "Y" recveiver same as Chris Henry and Jerome Simpson. This poisition plays the weak side of the defense and is your deep down the sideline type receiver. Coles and Caldwell (and Quan) play the "X" receiver position. this position plays on the strong side and generally has shorter routes and more blocking assignment responsibility. This is the old flanker positition and lines up off the line (since the TE covers the T on his side).
The great thing about Caldwell with his 4.39 speed is that he can also take the route deep, so he is a very potent threat (and Marvin mentioned that in his press conference, btw).
Where is Henry in this? He is Chads back up and the next guy in when we put Andre in the slot for 3 WR sets. This fundmanentally changes the running game when you pull either the TE or FB.
I agree with the OP, Coles CAN NOT continue to drop balls. 4 G** D*** passes! If he continues Andre's future will be and SHOULD BE NOW!

Does anyone here know why Chris Henry only played briefly against Denver and was taken out?
Anyone?
Bueller?
The answer is this: After his big reception early in the first quarter, Chris Henry was double teamed on every play. Chris Henry is a beast against single coverage or zone coverage but when he is double-covered he is useless. Chad Ochocinco can escape from double coverage. Chris Henry cannot yet do this.
This had nothing to do with Marvin's "dislike" of Chris and had everything to do with trying to win the game.

Ian This is not rocket sience, These receivers should know every position , every read to re- rout. Chad was double covered most of the day. I hope Coles has a better day today, but I want to see Henry, one TD in every five catches, and not out of the Y. He can't be single covered the D can't double Chad all day with Henry on the field or it is Touch down. I hear what you are saying, but this kid's future is now. WAKE UP MARVIN.

This had nothing to do with Marvin's "dislike" of Chris and had everything to do with trying to win the game. That is a great reason to play Henry, and if they have to double Chris, Chad is in single cover were he is not getting balls batted up for Int's. If he is doubled that just goes to proove the other teams respect for Henry. Ask the Steelers, they have never been able to stop Henry.

1. Henry looked great in the preseason because he was playing against 3-4th stringers
2. Defenses have been playing the safeties deep
3. Henry will get doubled when he is in
Marvin is using this to humble and prepare Henry.. he isn't doing the little things that would get him on the field.
Honestly... would Henry have recovered the fumble like Coles did? Hell no.. he wouldn't have hustled down the field like that. That's why he isn't on the field more.

And others need to get over their hardons for Henry starting. He needs to earn the right it should not just be given. Marvin was completely accurate in his press conference when he stated that people were watching Chris go against non starting defenders in the preseason and using this to gauge where he is as a player. I am not knocking Henry in anyway, I happen to like the guy, but with his past he must earn back the respect that he lost with his Head Coach.
This is not different than any other walk of life. If you constantly blow chances that people are giving you then you should not expect things to just be handed to you. He has had 1 offseason without trouble. Sorry, but that does not undo what he did in the seasons prior. I feel he is on the right track and I hope that he has things together off the field which is much more important than on the field.

Good grief Coles has looked better, but Henry takes the double team off Chad. If he leaves here watch how they use him.
