Just show him the hit Ward placed on his boy Rivers last year. That should be enough.

If you want to go way back remember when Kenny Anderson got closelined. That play still stays in my head.
How about Bill Cowher leading his crew in the "WHO-DEY; WE-DEY" chant after they beat us yet another time.

Good analogy. You could probably get away with saying "pretend you played for UCLA and the Steelers are USC" and it would get the same point across ;)

Have him ask Keith how long he had to go without eating solid foods.
If that doesn't do it, don't worry about it. He'll find out soon enough. I'm sure it won't be long before Pittsburgh gives him a personal reason to hate them.

Believe me, Rey was very cautious with his response....EVERY player at USC saw that video, and don't think that if any one of them (no matter which team they play for) have an opportunity to lay the wood on him, Ward will get it. That hit will not be forgotten.
I'd love Taylor Mays to knock him out next year too, lol.

Sunday win or lose, he will figure it out. Roy and Crocker wont let him NOT know. The are VETS, they will provide the wisdom for why this game is always big. And Sunday Paul Stadium sunday will provide enough reasoning. Stand up for your team this weekend no matter where you are watching. Lets get this City Hyped over this team.:rock on:

This is the great thing i love about Rey. You would think that, with the level of intensity he plays at, every week is against a big rival. The dude just doesn't seem to care he just wants to hit people and win. From what i have seen of him he puts the same wicked fast, hard hitting effort into every game. I honestly don't think he needs to do research because the guy can flat out play and he can hit.

23) Pittsburgh 24, Cincinnati 14 (Oct. 10, 1983) Keith Gary made Kenny Anderson look like that girl from The Exorcist. He spun him around by the face mask in the end zone and his head turned 180 degrees. I still don't know how he was kept from breaking his neck. The guy just was blatant as could be. That was one ugly display.

I was 10 yrs old and he grabbed me and said, "You see how them boys are from Turdburgh (that's what he called cleveland and pittsburgh cuz it always fit) ?"
"Ya Papa...one day they'll get whats cumin to em' "

Rey,
Here is what you need to know about Pittsburgh: The entire city hates Samoans. Seriously. The city even has "no Samoan" zones and anti-Samoanism is part of their city charter. Flights from the Pittsburgh airport do not even connect to Samoa.
They also hate people from California and USC especially. You can't even find Trojan condoms there! Remember, Pittsburgh hates California because that is where most of the beautiful women in the United States live. In fact, Southern California and Cincinnati are in a tie for having the hottest women in America. My proof? The Steelers cannot even find thirty good looking women in the entirety of the state of Pennsylvania to be cheerleaders. Really! The Steelers don't have any cheerleaders and the only reason is that Steeler female fans are, well, let's just say "less than attractive."
Sincerely,

From the home page . . .
Because of his flowing hair and heritage, he is supposed to be the Bengals answer to Steelers safety Troy Polamalu and become the heart and soul of the defense. Because of the position he plays and the ferocity he brings, he is supposed to be the next Ray Lewis, the Ravens linebacker that inspires teammates as well as detonates opponents.
But the Bengals are finding out that as rookie SAM linebacker Rey Maualuga tries to tip the balance of power in the powerful AFC North, he's got his own brand and his own game. He left his imprint last Sunday in his first NFL victory with his first sack and later first forced fumble.
He's already got his own unique routine that he brought from USC. It surfaced before the second series in Green Bay and there was associate strength coach Ray Oliver on the sidelines pounding his shoulder pads as hard as he could three times.
Not two times. Not four times.
Three.
"Before I went on the field Coach Norton would always pump me up and I wanted to restart it here," Maualuga said of Trojans linebackers coach Ken Norton. "It's something called 'Touch my body.' You go out there and make a tackle. Touch my body. Go out there and you give it up as far as jumping, lunging, making a shoestring tackle."
Maualuga and two of his fellow former USC defenders, linebacker Keith Rivers and defensive end Frostee Rucker, have already brought one tradition where they get together and chant in warrior-like fashion. Before that second series, Maualuga felt like he needed more tradition and went looking for Oliver on the sidelines.
"We're close. Ray is a guy that pulled me aside and talked to me about life as well as football," he said. "He'll text me out of the blue, call me out of the blue just to talk, see how things are going off the field. What better guy to have than Ray to do it?"
After about the second time, Oliver wasn't so sure. Maualuga wanted him to hit him as hard as he could.
"He's wearing football equipment and I'm not. I'm going to have to go back to college and get some of my old pads," said Oliver, who donned them at both Ohio State and the University of Cincinnati. "I started hiding from him behind the Gatorade cups. Like I worked for the Packers. But he found me all the time like a corpse-sniffing dog. Great kid. A lot of passion. He'll be looking for me early Sunday."
Of course, that's what this division is all about.
As he prepares for that first AFC North game, Maualuga admits "I still have to do my research" on the Cincinnati-Pittsburgh rivalry, but he's got a pretty good idea about its physical nature. If he listened to his quarterback Wednesday, he heard him talk about the physical toll the division games take compared to the other games.
Maualuga has already heard the fans.
"Going around town, people talking about they dislike them, hate this and that, yada yada. The things they say," Maualuga said. "To me, it's just another game."
He knows what waits. He saw the video of Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward breaking Rivers' jaw on YouTube last year and he thinks he said, "Wow."
"It was like 'Welcome to the NFL,' " he said. "It's a much more physical, faster game."
But he didn't get drawn into the hitting off the field when asked how he would treat Ward on Sunday.
"If he has the ball, I'll tackle him. I'm not going out of my way to hit him for something that he did that was right. Just blocking for one of his players," Maualuga said. "I'm just going to continue to do what I do. If he has the ball, I'll just try to get it from him."
Truth be told, the only guy he'll be looking for is Oliver.
"You ever see those old films of guys like **** Butkus and Ray Nitschke before a game?" Oliver asked. "Old school."
The bottom line is, we have to go and kick down the Steeler's door and take over their house if we ever want to consistently be the power house of the AFC NORTH. The Steelers take us for a joke, it's almost like their are the bullies in high school and us and Cleveland are the inferior kid who every time we think we have the guts to punch them in the mouth they knock us out (Palmer, Henry , Ocho Cinco, Housh and Rivers) and make a mockery of us. When they beat us they laugh as if we are the little sister's. I played college ball with James Harrison at Kent State and he still tells me how they own Cincy and always will. It's time for it to stop!!! Win, lose or draw it's time to hit them in the mouth and kick their *****! Take NO prisoners. I think it starts with Maualuga and Roy Williams to takes shots at them like Crocker did Holmes last year. When the Steelers leave the field Sunday, they need to be bloody and banged up not knowing if they won or lost the game. AND SOMEONE NEEDS TO KNOCK THAT SMILE OFF OF WARDS FACE!!!

Here is just an example. I was watching Bengals highlights on youtube and of course a Pittsburgh fan had to make a comment underneath the video. It is as follows:
****in bungle moron...kimo was NOT penalized **** for brains...have fun watchin the bungles go 7-9 this yr..unless carson takes another "dive" this season..***** didnt want to play for a losing team last yr..so cal ***... i was born in da burgh *****..no bandwagon here.. **** team **** coaches **** owner **** fans **** state **** city
This just goes to show you how classless they are. From the classless coach (Cowher) chants (and cheating on his wife within the organization)......to their dirty players........Harrison, Ward, etc........to their classless fans. These people deserve NO RESPECT. Superbowl or not........people like that don't deserve respect.

Both the Palmer and Rivers injury were legal at the time, but within a few months or years they both have been deemed illegal. What does that tell you about the way the Steelers organization operates? Also, like 13 Steelers from the 70's died before they hit 53 years old due to heart problems (steroids). Just a bunch of dirty rotten scoundrels if you ask me. When Holmes got KO'ed by Crocker last year (:tiger:), instead of making sure he was ok and taking it easy on him, Berger and an O-lineman drug him to his feet and made him walk off the field while he could barely stand due to Steeler pride or tough guy mentality. Part of me respects them for their toughness, but at the same time they're just a bunch of filthy animals.

If the Bengals could find a way to get pumped up like that, ... it would really be THE JUNGLE.
All Rey needs to know is, you can not get anywhere in this division, nor in this league ... without beating up on the Steelers. This is one of the tuffest divisions, if not the tuffest. It isn't an accident that Rey has found himself smack dab in the mud of the AFC North.

Rey will bring his toughness and ferocity to everygame. As he progresses through the years with the Bengals he will learn soon enough how much this rivalry means. But he said it best that in a game you have to play with control and focus, otherwise you will be taken out of your game and you won't play well.

Rey doesn't need any research. He works hard to stay within himself and bring his same game every week. Based on what I've seen so far, that's good enough for me. Evidently, he thinks he makes mistakes if he gets too wound up. We don't need mistakes in this game.
