Going to try and play some golf. Got a new glove and some more tees. And some new Balls!

Checked out the draft. I am not a fan of taking Miller but I like the change up.

Sounds like Denver is content with their DEs. After getting Champ locked up I think they go Fairley or Dareus.

Then Buf? Newton? PP?

Hmmmmm,

I think we will take Green but who knows.

Wish I could get out and play some golf. But last night we got 6 inches of snow.<_<

As for the mock.I just wanted to try something different.AJ is the safe pick, and I have had him in 2 other mocks I have done.I only see a few players we can really draft.Peterson,AJ,Von,and possibly Dareus.

I knew Von wouldn't be a popular pick.But it is a mock.

Do you have any insights into the correlation of wonderlick scores for QBs and success ratio? I heard on the radio that Greg McElroy scored a 48, nearly perfect. I have no desire for him to be QB of the Bengals, but I was wondering what the rate of QBs with high scores that didn't pan out and ones who scored low that went on to be successful?

If they keep Charles Johnson, then they'll go DT for sure. I just think Fairley can be a little too boom or bust to justify #1 overall

Depends on what they want. But I think he is boom/bust which is one reason I have a hard time with us taking him at 4. Would be ok with it I guess but then who is off the team
? Sims? Geno? I like both of them and think our rotation at DT is fine. Tank was garbage. Hope he is gone.

I hope Tank is gone for sure. I hope we trade Palmer for a 2nd round pick. Then we could still get a DT/DE and a QB in round 2. It would make taking Green/PP a lot easier in the 1st round.

All indications are this is going to be an offensive draft in the first two rounds for the Bengals even if they lose cornerback Johnathan Joseph to free agency. Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer would like Joseph to return, but he's not thinking about LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson or Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers or any prospect because as of this weekend at the NFL scouting combine he had yet to watch tape of any of them.

I saw the QB of my choice Ponder on Bengals front page... I kept saying he would gain more momentum during combine and what not... I think he's definitely one of the more NFL ready QB's most observers feel that his long passes are rough, and I agree sometimes he isn't as accurate on long passes, but those short to intermediate passes he's a beast. With a west coast offense you don't typically throw many long passes anyways. only thing is I don't think the Bengals will take him with the #4 pick. So most likely Ponder won't be coming to us because he's now projected to go in the mid to late first round.

See, I like Kaepernick and Ponder out of all the QBs in this draft, because both would flourish in the WCO and could be taken in later rounds. Honestly, I think Ponder will slide a bit because of his injury. But I also wouldn't want the Bengals to reach for either of them.

According to CBS Sports' Rob Rang, Florida State QB Christian Ponder is "generating ... first-round buzz" after an impressive Combine.
Multiple accounts claimed that Ponder was the best, most accurate passer in Indy, and Rang passes along growing belief that five quarterbacks could be drafted in the top-32 picks. Along with Ponder, they would be Cam Newton, Blaine Gabbert, Ryan Mallett, and Jake Locker. Per Rang, Ponder is now "viewed by some as the top true West Coast Offense quarterback in the draft.

I am going to tweak it a lil more and finish tom but here it is so far

Hoping that somehow the CBA is reached and we trade Palmer for a 2nd round pick to Arizona or SF but in this case Arizona.

And I do not see Chad sticking around if the CBA is reached. He is moved for a late 3rd to the Jets.

In this mock I am also assuming we bring Benson Back

Round 1

1 – Carolina - DaQuan Bowers - DE – Clemson – I think they go DE or DT here but losing Peppers hurt and I think Rivera in his first year coaching goes for defense.

2 – Denver - Nick Fairley - DT – Auburn – I almost think they may go DE but with Dumervil back and Ayers I think they need a DT like Fairley more switching back to the 4-3.

3 – Buffalo - Marcel Dareus - DE – Alabama – Buffalo was awful against the run last season and could use a stud like Dareus to bolster their run defense and get some pressure. They could take a QB but it seems too early in this draft.

4 – Cincinnati - AJ Green - WR – Georgia – I do not think we will get JJ back but losing Chad we need a weapon and AJ is the best WR on the board. I would also not mind Peterson if it goes this way but feel we can be ok with Hall, Pacman, Ghee, Trent.

Round 2

35 – Christian Ponder – QB – FSU – On the rise after a MVP Senior Bowl and excellent combine many see as the best WC QB in this draft. Still early but right now this seems like a good fit. I also see us bringing in a Vet if we go QB in 2.

38 – Marvin Austin – DT – UNC – This guy could be a good pick for us here. If we only have one 2nd round pick I could see us taking him anyway. He put up 38 reps with a 30.5 inch vertical. At 6’2 309 he ran a better 40 than Fairley or Dareus. Put up 14 more reps. And has what you want to see on film. He has looked great since the East-West Game when he came back.

Round 3

66 – Quinton Carter – S – Oklahoma – Can catch, play good zone and run support. I like this kid as he can play both S spots. And we certainly could use some help in that area.

94 – Will Rackley – OG – Lehigh – He played LT at Lehigh but I like what I see from him moving to OG inside and he looked good at the combine to help us out on our O line. He has what it takes to be a starter at OG in the NFL.
Round 4

100 – Mason Foster – OLB – Washington – I love this kid and maybe its bfine’s fault but once I looked into him I would love to grab him in round 4. He would really add something to our LB group and give us some options with moving Rey around this season.

Round 5

131 – Ugo Chinasa – DE – Oklahoma State – I really like the potential he has. If he could bring it on every play he could be a stud. His real question is his motor but I think he will step it up at the next level. He ran well and looked great in drills. As a rotational DE at first he could help our pass rush and can also tackle.

Round 6

162 – Buster Skrine – CB – UT Chattanooga – Man he looked awesome at the combine for a late round pick. Has a lot to develop but has the raw tools running a 4.29 40 as well as showing excellent quickness, loose hips and great ball skills Tuesday.

Round 7

196 – Anthony Allen – RB – GT – At 6’1 228 he put up a good 40 time of 4.54 and had a huge vertical leap of 41.5. This guy could be a good fit this late in the draft if his combine did not propel him past this spot. He is not the best pass catcher but could fit for short yardage and running situations and maybe make the team.

Yeah, I am still tinkering with it. I really would want Austin if he is there. I actually really like Rackley but who knows what we will do. I also want us to take a blocking TE like Andre Smith in round 5. But we could use some DE rotational help. I am trying to find a way to move around a few picks like S,DE,TE,CB to get a better fit. But that was my drunk version. Right after I posted it the boards went down. It was too much for them to handle. Hahahahaha.

So you think we need to draft multiple OL? I really think people go overboard on our O line. I do not think it is as awful as most. Palmer just can't move and they are made to run. We took them out of their game. Like to see if Andre can pan out before drafting a OT high. A solid OG would be what I really want. Maybe a back-up guy later instead of a RB if we keep Benson.

I am going to tinker with it tonight when I get back from running the dog unless I get roped into a lame movie.

Well I have combined a list of some players that have shown some potential through college and the combine. Many of these players could go in later rounds.

Quarterbacks:
Christian Ponder- many believe he has injury issues, when in all actuality he suffered injuries due to being sacked a ridiculous amount of times. He has rebounded well from injuries. Projected Round 2

Jake Locker- Rates real close to the same as Ponder. Both proved themselves in college with teams that weren't the best constructed. Projected late first round or 2nd round

Tyrod Taylor- moving to west coast offense he has good speed and hand size. Could have a little bigger frame but could be a good later pick. Projected round 5-6

Running Backs:

Shane Vereen- has remained remarkably healthy while performing well. Has good strength and speed, has shown to be a good power back. Projected round 3

Wide Receivers:

Johnathan Baldwin- Good speed for his size, vertical is very good and hand size is good as well. Projected Round 2

Leonard Hankerson- About as fast as Baldwin, good vertical and hand size. Projected round 2

Denarius Moore- A faster receiver with good vertical, could be a good speedy receiver. Projected round 5-6

Tight Ends: Not really much of a need however

Rob Housler- Probably a later pick, good size, speed, and vertical for tight end. Projected Round 4

Oline: These guys aren't as hyped so therefore will probably drop to later rounds however they have shown potential and could be better than some of the over- hyped olinemen.

Ryan Bartholomew- projected round 7th round or undrafted
Jason Kelce- projected round 6th
Chris Hairston- projected round 5-6

Dline: later picks with good strength and speed for DT

Marvin Austin- projected round 2-3
Chris Neild- projected round 6-7

Linebackers: not a huge need for this team but would be nice to pick up a young guy with potential and see how it works out

Martez Wilson- good size, speed, strength projected round 2
Brian Rolle- good speed and strength projected round 6
Ross Homan- good size strength and speed projected round 4-5

Defensive Backs:

Patrick Peterson is obviously top of most people's list if he falls to us in round 1.

However later picks could be: good speed, vertical, and strength for CB's

Brandon Harris- late round 1 or 2nd round
Curtis Brown- had a poor 40 time during combine so may drop some stock however many believe he's faster, just had a bad run. What he lacked in speed during combine he made up for in drills and with his vertical. projected 2nd round
Darryl Skrine- performed well during drills, vertical was good, and ran fastest 40 (unofficial) with a 4.29 projected round 5-6

Shiloh Keo (safety) - didn't have the most impressive 40 time however during drills he performed very well. While he did not run a very good 40 many observers felt he is faster than what he ran. Mike Mayock and Deion Sanders praised Keo's hustle and quick feet. Projected round 5

So I think many of these players could be good picks in later rounds. I'm just shootin from the hip here, I'm not saying these are the greatest players just saying they have shown a good bit of potential through their college experience and the combine.

Feel free to share thoughts/ opinions and who you think could make good late round picks.

Pro Football Weekly's Draft Guide 2011 which is rather expensive for a magazine( $7.99) said:

Bengals team needs:
1. WR
2. DL
3. OT
4. QB
5. RB

Now the players they say best fit our offensive scheme are:
QB: Ryan Mallet
RB: Kendall Hunter
WR: Torrey Smith
OT: Lee Ziemba
RB: Delone Carter
OT: Byron Bell

The players they say fit our offensive scheme:
DE: Robert Quinn
CB: Jimmy Smith
LB: Martez Wilson
DT: Marvin Austin
DT: Drake Nevis
SS: DeAndre McDaniel

Here are my thoughts: The Bengals seem to be wanting to focus on offense first which means Robert Quin and DeAndre McDaniel probably won't be drafted by the Bengals. Jimmy Smith and Ryan Mallett haven't been performing at the top of their game lately. Torrey Smith's hands aren't exactly what the Bengals need, we all saw how many passes Coles dropped when he was here and we don't want to see that so I think Torrey Smith is not a great fit for us.

While I do like some of the players they mentioned there are some very questionable players on their list.

Here are some things walter football is saying about the Bengals.

Ryan Mallett QB Arkansas
In one media session, Ryan Mallett refused to deny drug use; lashed out at the reporters; accused someone of setting him up to take a fall; said wise words like "Some people don't like my confidence. I can't do nothing about it;" and stormed off the podium.

The consensus from everyone there is that Mallett is very unlikable. In fact, Wes Bunting tweeted, "Don't trust Arkansas QB Ryan Mallett... end of story, guy rubs me the wrong way and he wouldn't be on my draft board. Period."

Mallett won't be on many draft boards. In fact, he'd be a late-round flier if it weren't for teams like the Bengals, Raiders, Eagles, etc.

Greg Little WR North Carolina

Sports Illustrated has reported that Greg Little has been "less than honest" during the Combine interviews - "and that's putting it nicely." SI speculates that Little could go undrafted, but I'm not buying that. He's too talented. Some team that doesn't care about character concerns (Bengals) will take him in the later rounds.

Patrick Peterson CB LSU

Patrick Peterson confirmed that he's the best cornerback prospect since Charles Woodson on Tuesday. Despite measuring in at 6-0, 219, he ran a 4.32 40 and notched a 38-inch vertical. Like Woodson, Peterson has the size and speed to play multiple positions on defense. He won't be the No. 1 pick, but he can go as high as No. 3 to Buffalo. I don't see him falling past Cincinnati.

I just don't reallu understand the reasoning for cutting a good defensive player like that. I know they apparently didn't want to pay him his bonus. So why not renegotiate instead of cutting him. Cuz now they apparently want to re-sign him to a lower salary, but odds of him re-signing are small.

As a side note I still think Newton is a risky gamble for a team to take high in the draft. I mean he only has one full season and 20 games total. His completion percentage was 65.4%.

Just seems like a gamble to me, when a safer pick would be to take someone with more starting time and a decent completion percentage. I think in this draft you can get one of the better qb's in the middle rounds instead of spending such a high pick on Newton.

Bishop showed some potential he has made good progression through the years with the Packers. Matthews is playing at a very high level, Barnett is good when healthy and at the top of his game.

Only thing is will Bishop do well consistently because this was his best season and he did receive much more playing time this season compared to his other seasons with the Packers.

It is just a horrible idea telling a team to head into the draft and look for your replacements there.Everyone knows the draft is a gamble as it is,but now you really do have to look at it like that a crapshoot. We have no choice but to roll the dice on 1 of are backups,or a rookie.Just a f'd up situation. And it really does get to me.

I agree not the best qb draft but their are some that have some potential. I think if they manage to pull off a deal before draft then we could be fine and make trades and dabble in free agency I think. The draft isn't until the end of April this year so I mean there's a possibility a deal could be reached by then and teams will still have time to try to sign free agents or make trades. Although I do agree this is f'd up and should not even be happening.

I have been saying Ponder since the beginning of off-season. His deep ball isn't the greatest but with the Bengals switch to a west coast offense he shouldn't be required to throw too many deep. Only thing is Ponder might cost us a round 2 pick. So with that said some other later round QB's with potential could be Andy Dalton or T.J. Yates.

Most projections I have seen so far seem to have Dalton going in rounds 4-5. i think Dalton could even be a good 3rd rounder. Not too high but of good value. I think Dalton is a safe pick because he has plenty of starting experience and his completion percentage wasn't terrible. So could be a valuable later pick, then in rounds 1-2 we could pick up some bigger play makers. I still like Ponder but the combine helped push him into the first couple rounds I think.

I would like to see us make some other safe good late round picks so we aren't gambling too much with the draft because we may not have much to work with depending on how long the CBA deal takes.

Thats why we need to trade Carson for a 2nd. If a freaking CBA is reached by the draft that is. <_<

We badly need it to happen.I rather gamble with a vet.And heck I wouldn't mind even waiting until next years draft to see what we could get.
