Crocker is expected back next week.
That would be great.
Still, I would expect even a third string safety to know better than to try to tackle a 226 lb RB high.
Safety is definitely a draft need IMHO.

Safety became a need when Roy went on IR and showed that he still had issues with his arm. I never saw Nelson as some playmaker. He's nothing more than a ST player who gets a couple of defensive players.

Even on ST, tackling should be basic. I think we have some guys on offense who can tackle better than that.

I realize the Jets have great defense, but good god.We have faced good defense from 3-4 teams such as the Ravens, and Steelers. So why such a difference,do the Jets really disguise their blitz that well.I think not.We need to study that D all week, and by all means stop the run,but that will be harder with the loss of Sims.Maybe with Peko and Crocker coming back we get a little better, but still,im no where confident.
Until we score first Saturday. Then it all changes.

I don't ever recall seeing a Bengals team lay down for their final game of the season. Even when were 3 and 12, they still played their hearts out. I have seen us rest players before, but that had little impact on the motivation to win for the players in the game. We got manhandled by a better team tonight. I hope we come up with something that will work at home.

Hopefully we get a few players back, and our guys have a chip on their shoulders. I know from experience that it's hard for a team that has everything going for it to continue like that two weeks in a row against the same team. I was joking. They were awful at DT. Our line of back ups was bad. Losing Sims hurt too. And when we did we stopped putting Tank in as often. So we had Fananae, Sean Smith, Oreon Harris, Frostee Rucker. Then Tom Nelson went down and we had Herbert in there. I was only worried about the offense but I really think we didnt want to show our hand. B Scott is a good runner but not against a stout run defense. When LJ came in for his one run he got the only yardage we had in the first half. Lol

I was sortfa hoping for that as well, just to get him some extra reps to get him ready for the post season. Who knows how much we will use him though, Benson will probably get 35 carries again this week.

I have the answer to your LJ question.
As I stated above B Scott is great but his running style does not work vs The Jets. Like you guys I expected to see a heavy dose of LJ. We took Benson out for "Rest"
We did not want them to see our gameplan. So we didnt give LJ the ball as he is just like Benson. The one carry I saw him get he powered over someone and got 7 yards. Then right back out of the game. Benson will see a lot of carries this week. Scott will be our return man. Leonard in on 3rd downs.
We ran a vanilla shell so that we could see the blitzes and looks they were going to come at us with. They did not have that luxury. And we took advantage of it. Imo we used this game as we should have. Would have liked to see our defense do better but thats what happens when yo have all back ups in. Herbert? Then Chad got hurt we lost Sims and really packed it in.

New drinking game. Everybody has to drink when the Bengal's have an offensive penalty.
You'll be drunk by the start of the second quarter. However, it would help to numb the pain.

I can see where it would have been for him. He was a ballhawk playmaker at CB. To have to switch from being on an island covering a WR tight to playing centerfield and just making sure nobody gets past you would have been a huge mental and ego-sucking challenge. Guys like Rolle, however, were viewed as busts at CB and then really found a niche with the new responsibilities.

Didnt he make a Marvin thread about coach of the year? Few days later the article on the front page. Lol. Maybe he is Mike Brown.
I don't think he made that thread, but I know he posted in that thread. I just don't read too many of Fred's posts, I'd think Brat and Bres were the best combo of coordinators in Bengals history if we listened to him. I am confused by some of his posts, I remember he was critical of Andre Smith's workout from the first episode of HK.

Oh and BZ, I understand that ROlle was considered a bust, but still, changing positions like that can be extremely tough. Woodson did it after his first year of trying, as did Role, but Ratliff isn't near their level
You can never tell. It's seeing the field in a whole different way. Sometimes, that clicks something in the guys head and he falls into place. Rolle probably has better athleticism, but he was considered a complete bust at ARI. They tried to shop him around the league, but nobody wanted him. Then Whisenhunt came, saw and made the right move.

Going to be a good year for the draft, extremely deep with all this talent coming out. A little surprised that Marvin Austin, the DT from North Carolina, chose to return to school. Saw him going in the 1st in a couple of mocks. How big is Render?

Well Render could play into a LG battle, he's around Mathis' size. Obviously I would like Mike Iupati, but if one of those WRs is there, then I'd go there. Wouldn't mind John Jerry or Brandon Carter in the later rounds as a future RG for us.

We'll most likely keep Mathis since no one will give up a 3rd for him, but Mathis could be tricky. He went undrafted so another wouldn't have to give up anything if we decide to put a lower offer on him.

Lots of good Guards in this draft. And prob some Ots that could move to Guard.

From DS:
10/01/09 - Oklahoma tight end Jermaine Gresham and Oregon cornerback Walter Thurmond III are not letting their season-ending knee injuries keep them from exploring their NFL options. Both, in fact, have elected to enter the 2010 draft rather than apply for a medical hardship and return to college next season, the schools announced Wednesday. Gresham, given a first round grade by the NFL Advisory Committee, suffered a knee injury in the week prior to the Oklahoma's opener against BYU. He underwent surgery to repair torn cartilage soon thereafter and is expected to be fully recovered in time for the Combine. A strong performance in workouts and clean medical grades from team doctors will likely keep Gresham in the first round. There is no doubt that when healthy, he is the elite tight end prospect eligible for the 2010 draft. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
