Thought you would be interested in this info that was released today.

The NFL announced several revisions to its annual college draft today to streamline the selection process for clubs and fans.

The changes were announced by Commissioner ROGER GOODELL at a league meeting in Philadelphia.

Beginning with next year’s draft, only Rounds 1-2 will take place on Saturday (April 26), the first day of the draft. Previously, the first three rounds of the draft were conducted on Saturday.

The time allocated for each club to make its selection in Rounds 1-2 also has been changed.

Instead of 15 minutes for each pick in Round 1, clubs will now be allowed 10 minutes. In Round 2, the selection time has been shortened to seven minutes from 10 minutes.

The draft also will begin later on Saturday -- at 3:00 PM ET rather than at noon.

Round 3 will be moved to Sunday and remain at five minutes per selection. Rounds 3-7 will be conducted on Sunday, with each selection allocated at five minutes.

The draft on Sunday now will begin at 10:00 AM ET rather than 11:00 AM ET.

“We believe these changes will make for a more streamlined and efficient draft,” said Commissioner Goodell.

The 2008 NFL Draft will be conducted on Saturday and Sunday, April 26-27 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and televised by NFL Network and ESPN.

I hate the revision of the start times.

3pm on Saturday? 10am on Sunday!?

What are they thinking?

There was a rumor of holding the 1st round on Friday night, then 2-4 on Saturday and 5-7 on Sunday. I kind of liked that idea.

Ya I agree with you I do not like the idea of only having 1 and 2 on Saturday. I would perfer that it be the same or first round be prime time.

Well think about it, we started at noon last year and weren't done with round 1 until, what, 4, 6? If we start at 3, we wouldn'tve ended round 1 until 7 or 9. I know they shortened the picks, but it just seems like a bad idea to me.

Ya but the first round would end more like 6 probably maybe earlier and the second would be over around 10 so it should be over earlier.

If only I could go back in time and say that when Goodell first got appointed.

I consider it a missed opportunity.

It's weird. The saying "He was a first day pick" changes from 3 rounds to only 2. I hate the 10 am. Sunday start. Even malls don't open till noon on Sunday. For football fans, the draft is an Event. I'm dissappointed the league didn't turn 'Round 1 into a prime time Friday night event.

Can anyone take a stab at how many picks the Bengals will have this year? I think we traded a 7th round pick to get Fitzpatrick, but with our free agency losses in '07, aren't we expecting 2 or 3 compensatory picks? What rounds would you anticipate the compensatory picks being?

With the loss of a pick for Fitzpatrick I think we'll still end up getting 9-10 picks.

I'm thinking we'll get a 3-4 out of Steinbach.

the rest will be in the later rounds, 7th likely, 6th if we're lucky.

Like it, the old way was to long and boring.

Clearly they are going for a larger audience on the west coast for round one.

Also, remember that Fitzpatrick is a RFA, which means that if we tender him the offer where the compensation is the round they were drafted in, then we would get a 7th. We could have anywhere from 9 to 11 picks in the draft, which I'd rather keep than trade away.

Are compensatory picks based on the FAs salary or their on-field performance? I was looking up our FAs stats and none have really contributed, but I can't find ST stats to see if they've done anything there.

It's amazing what a good draft can do for your team it you think about it. The roster is 53 guys and only 45 of them get activated each week to play. If you have a draft like we will this year with around 9 picks, you could conceivably turn over 20% of your roster. Let some of your free agents go elsewhere and bring in some talent to fill needs, and you could have a third or more of your gameday players be new.

I believe it's based on on field performance. Then again, if it were you'd think that Jon Kitna would've gotten us more than a 7th last year. So I dunno.
