The Bengals might, sorry; might get a top 10 pick. I think any player except a QB and WR should be an option for the Bengals.

So if it were to day and say the Bengals are picking 9th; Who do you want.

Defense only in the first round, if not 2. Best available player at any defensive position, with emphasis on the D-line.

Defensive End big enough for the 3-4. My pick would be Howie Long's son Chris Long out of Virginia.

If top 10 pick
I would try to trade down for another's team 1st round and (2nd or 3rd round pick)
With the new 1st pick I would take Laurenitus....because I think he could finally give us some intangbles on defense like heart, instincts, leadership.
IF,IF,IF,IF,IF,IF, Odell and Brooks are healthy, eglible and in playing shape that could be an oustanding linebacker group for 5-6 years.
Also, I would take Woodward out of Kentucky with one of the 3rd round picks.
As we now know you can never have too many Linebackers!

James Lurinitus? (not being a homer here)

Would be a great pick but LBs thrive on the defensive line maintaining their gaps especially from DTs. Laurinitis would be a great pick as long as you pick up a good DT (which are fairly easy to grab later) in the later rounds.

We need to draft defense in the first 3 rounds 1st DL 2nd DE 3rd LB .

Laurinitis? Great just what we need another linebacker that can't get off of a block. We need a serious D-lineman that has to be doubleteamed everydown. We need a space eater/run stuffer

its gotta be glenn dorsey or chris long i say, calais campbell is just overhyped due to his size from waht ive seen.

I agree totally, Campbell has been a disappointment so far this season. Dorsey or Long would be awesome if we could get them.

also try to remember guys, long is beastly enough that he could be moved to under tackle ina 4-3 and we could still go for a passrusher at DE

If Smith goes, then I am all for Long on the team.

Also Dan Connor is a guy who I would like to get as well.

Laurinitis. 19 tackles in a single game against a pretty good team.

Oh, and for the person who said he can't get off blocks...I'm sorry, but I really don't know who you are looking at.

Peko, Connor is good, but if we had this high of a pick, we'd be reaching to take him that early, he's a mid to late first rounder, he might even end up slipping to the second.

Where was he most of the Penn State game. Nearly everyone on here complains about Smith tacking from behind plays. Taking anothe r backer that high in the next draft would be a bad move anyhow. The Bengals need guys to keep blockers off of the backers we have now.

Most of the game Penn State was running and throwing away from him. He had one bad game, that doesn't mean he's horrible.

He's still averaging about 8 tackles a game. Not to mention he is a full blown leader and a blue collar player who is consistent and tries on every play.

Sounds a lot like J.Smith doesn't it. I never said He was horrible just overated and with our D-line he would need to get a lot stronger and learn to shed those blocks. Actually take time to watch the D-line of OSU. Animal part deux has it pretty good. Those D-linemen keep guys off of him (as they should).

Our Defensive line was nonexistant during the NC game, and yet somehow Laurinitis still manage to rack up 15 tackles. I'm sorry, I just don't see how that is underperforming.

Also, the comparison of the Animal to Justin Smith made me laugh....so thanks for that.

Oh I know Connor is a Paul Posluzny draft player, who should go mid first to early second. I would like to see us grab him with an early draft pick in the 2nd round if he makes it, or trade our 2nd round pick and a 3rd round pick (we should have 2) for a late 1st round pick to draft Dan Connor.

I like Long and Dorsey.

I would love to sign Haynesworth if somehow he gets released, and get Glenn Dorsey, then rotate Peko and Myers in while releasing Big John Thornton.

Your words not mine. The Bengals D needs a difference maker. Not another guy punching a time clock.

Yeah, he does try on every play, meaning he doesn't take them off. The difference between Laurinatis and Smith is that Laurinatis does his primary job near or behind the line of scrimmage, Smith doesn't.

The difference making starts from within, and what I mean by that... is a new defensive coordinator.

Once that happens, we might see some light.

We need scouts as well.

Hey Buckeye, if Ohio State wins the NC, you think that some of these junior stars will declare for the draft. If that is the case, then I'll be all for bringing in Laurinaitis.

If we get him, can we make him a special uniform, like his dad's ring gear?

I think that's the only way they come out. Players buy what Jim Tressel is selling.

Laurinitis is an immediate improvement to the Bengals defense but i think a NT is much more important at this point. Now if they can grab Laurinitis and get a late round gem at NT which is very very possible as NTs drop alot of times then that defense is DRAMATICALLY improved.

That would be awesome. Hines Ward goes up for a catch, AJ Hawk picks him up on his shoulders and James comes and jumps off Peko's back and clothlines Hines and secures the pinfall victory for the Bengals, 1. 2. 3!

To say nothing of hearing the LOD theme when one of them makes a tackle. That would NEVER get old.

i don't care WHO we draft as long as the first 3 picks are in the front seven....and players who can GET to the QB...i'm tired of staring at the opposing teams qb with his completely clean jersey

we need desperatly to get some help on the D-line...linebackers are a crap shoot we have some decent ones on paper odell, brooks, jeanty, johnson...add another player and it has potention problem is none of these guys are all on the field at the same time

You mean like this?

http://www.thewrestlingpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/11/t1_laruinaitis.jpg

Incidentally he was recently asked if he wants to start a campaign for the heisman (he's up for the Lombardi, Nagurski and Butkus this year). He said "no, if they give it to me, that's great, but I took pictures dressed up like my dad and they were plastered all over the lockerroom."

That's why I love this kid so much, he's humble. He actually all but gets embarassed by all of the attention. He just quietly leads his team through his actions. He would be a great person on the field and in the locerroom.

I simply cannot agree about the Lewis hit on Chad.

I do however agree that their uniform rules are pretty draconian.

i am compelled to agree with you, but then again, I am sure if the NFL didnt enforce this, everyone's individuality would emerge and I'm sure we would all prefer they keep in uniform amongst themselves.
