This guy look like he's the next LT, and if our draft pick is high enough we should definitely choose him. Now the most logical choice is a defensive player, but over the past years our defensive picks have not worked in our favor. A combination injuries and lack of playing ability have simply destroyed our defense. Jonathan Joseph and Leon Hall have been nice additions to the team, however our most valuable defensive players over the years have come via free agency. (e.g. Deltha O Neal).
Anyways not only can Darren McFadden rush, he can pass and catch better than any running back I've witnessed. He's already thrown for two touchdown passes and is averaging 14.4 yards per catch.
Here are some videos on this guy.

I'm mixed about Darren McFadden. When I first started reading some 2008 mock drafts, they had us taking him, and some still do. At first I actually liked the idea of grabbing him, because we do need some offensive help. Our terrible needs at D overshadow the fact that our offense is aging and we need to start grooming for the future.
After seeing what Watson can do and what hopefully Irons can bring to the table, I'm not sure I'd want to take him. I won't throw my arms up in the air and get angry if we select him, he'd be a nice addition.

I was amazed at first, but I thought about and realized where they were coming from. Rudi is showing wear and tear so I don't know how long we've got him for. Perry is constantly injured and has only given us one good year while hear. Watson is a free agent after this year and may get some looks from other teams. Dorsey may not even be here when Perry is activated.
So the possibility of McFadden isn't at 0%.

I could see the Bengals going all offense in the draft; depending on who the coach is(Martz maybe).
I would like some D but they may address that in free agency(Briggs, Hall maybe).
They might try to make a super O with McFadden(he is a star), TE and some young OL.
McFadden, Rudi(if here), Irons and Watson would be scary. I like Kelly as a TE but he is getting older.
If you could get a special TE(game changer the D would have to cover) in the second round.
I would be o.k. with it. I do not think it is the biggest need though. I always though think it is smart to draft good lineman O or D every draft.
With a healthy Palmer; with all those weapons it would be scary. The D will have to get better next; hopefully with a new DC(either Ryan please).
Every Defense no matter how bad plays better with a lead.
If McFadden is there when the Bengals pick; I would be fine the pick. I just think he will be a top 4 pick.

We do not need a running back enough to take one in the first round this year, there is nobody that stands out, not even McFadden, not this year. McFadden will not be as good as Adrian Peterson is let alone L.T. The Bengals have not even shown that they are committed to a running game so why would they draft a 1st round RB if they don't plan on running the ball. They throw the ball it would make sense if they drafted a WR or a special teams guy.
McFadden will be a good pickup for any team but we don't need a flasy 1st round pick that comes in and we expect him to be this hugh game changer. We need a solid team player who will contribute to the team as a whole.

People thought the same thing about Adrian Peterson.
I really don't see us taking yet another RB with a first day pick, especially when we took one last year.
I think we'd be more apt to take a star WR than a RB, but I don't see that happening either. Mike Brown and Marvin Lewis are going to try to fix what they think is broken, and that's our Defense. Since we're losing Justin Smith, I look for them to try to get a star DE or a LB with our first pick, and then get whichever they didn't get in the 2nd.

Peterson still went top 10, and that's with all the injury problems.
McFadden has been playing through one this season, so he will definately stay top 5 unless he breaks his leg.
I agree with not taking a RB. We got one last year Kenny Irons, and one in 2004 in the first round Chris Perry. Kenny Watson has emerged & Rudi is still under contract meaning we may have 4 RBs to start off the season. Don't be shocked, however, to see them couple Rudi and/or Kenny and move up in the draft.
If they end up picking top 10, I still doubt that, they will try their best to snag Glen Dorsey and stick to a 4-3 D with Rucker-Peko-Dorsey-Pollack on the line.
One way or another, they're going to be adding defensive help, and it looks like LB & DT are the ways to go on the first day here.

I for years have been screaming defense, defense defense on draft days. But recently I have lost faith in the Bengals coaches to draft or use right good defensive players. I would love a great middle linebacker in with the first pick; that you could build a defense around. Is there a special LB like that the Bengals could get next year. I think the Bengals are going to bring in Briggs as well. Is Bob Sanders available next year at safety.

No way. The Colts might not sign many defensive players, but they would never get rid of Freeny or Sanders.

no way the Colts don't re-sign him, but I think they gave him an extension last spring.
As far as Briggs...Dear God, I can only hope, lol. We NEED to make a big splash this off-season. I'll be happy bringing in just ONE good or great player.
As far as our draft choices, I like them so far. I hear Rucker is very close to coming back and has proven to being a beast if/when he stays healthy.
I still say, though, that Haynesworth is the player to snag this off-season. We are in DESPERATE need of a good DT, and he's one of theb etter ones as he can stuff the run, and help with the pass rush. He's a younger version of Big Sam Adams, but with a mean streak on him.

Ali, you're a good man, so I don't want to see you disappointed. Don't expect Haynesworth, as I told you once before, he has character issues and I just don't think they go after him.
H*ll they might not even go after Briggs.

I'm along with Buckeye, don't expect anything big this offseason. I don't think I'll ever go into a Bengals offseason expecting some big free agents to come in. As long as Marvin is in charge, free agency for us will always be scraping the bottom of the barrel, and we'll continue to build through the draft.

I do not like Rucker because of his past evil deeds. I do not want that kinda of person on the Bengals; our in the city.

Do you feel the same way about Chad Johnson?
I'm all for giving people second chances, and he has been out of trouble completely since stepping into the NFL.

Rucker is starting to remind me of Keiwan Ratliff. A non-1st round pick with a bunch of hype who's done nothing so far.

I will literally throw up and smash my HDTV if we draft Darren McFadden.
He is very un-needed. Unless we trade Chad Johnson (which I am strongly against) for a first round draft pick, and we trade Rudi for a 3rd round draft pick, no way in heck would I want Darren on our team. That would be almost a wasted pick.

You're comparing apples and oranges. Rucker was a third round pick (as was Keiwan, I believe), and that's where it ends. Rucker has impressed during training camp, but he hasn't been healthy yet. Keiwan was burned a lot because he was far too slow to play in the NFL. Keiwan had a lot of hype around him, and just never lived up to even be 1/2 the player everyone thought he would have been.

Do you not recall hearing about Keiwann being impressive in every training camp? They were always talking about him getting faster and improving his hands.
Both of them have been all sizzle and no steak. Hopefully Rucker can get on the field and prove that he was worth the pick, whereas Ratliff proved to be another wasted pick.

:rotf:
Wait, are you talking about how the staff also told us that Keiwaan could possibly be a starter at CB if JJ was not healthy?
Or how the staff said Keiwaan was the most improved player and he is sowing how incredible he was?
lol.

yep....oh and about how Ratliff was an explosive kick returner....................nope, that's still not funny.
What about how we passed on Chris Gamble to get Chris Perry and Keiwann...............ok now I want to vomit.

To be fair...Gamble wouldn't have been anything special for the Bengals either. He's an ok player.
I still take pride in calling Heath Miller that year. Can't believe we passed that one up

He's ok.....but he still was ultimately better than what we got. Furthermore, it would've freed up a second rounder.

Well, if Chris Perry could ever stay healthy, he'd be one of the better RBs int he NFL. He has a great O-Line, he can catch, he can break tackles, he can juke, change direction...Essentially do everything...
...But stay on the field. I think the Bengals didn't want anything to do with Gamble, because that is the draft they traded down twice, and still saw Gamble sitting there, but passed him up. The worst thing with Gamble was that he was just as much a gamble as Keiwan, but at the cost of their first rounder.
IDK, Perry is a ridiculous player, but he just can't stay on the field. Nobody faulted Minnesota for taking Peterson because he has played this season. Now, if he went down in the first half of hte second game he played, and missed the season, the vikings franchise would be taking even MORE heat.
Speaking of O-Coordinators...Why not Brad Childress after he surely gets fired at the end of the season.

Gamble has 25 tackles, 3 assists 1 FF and 1 FR. That's pretty close to what we have out of Deltha.
I agree though that he was a gamble, no pun intended. I still wanted him over Perry though, still do to be honest. Perry has issues with his health, but I wasn't every really sold on the pick even if he had been, I felt we had other needs. Granted Rudi was in a contract year, but I was confident in our signing him.
I don't think they'll fire Childress at the end of this year. They'll probably give him one more year to get it done. Even if they do fire him though, I would still want Zampese to get the job.
Zampese is one reason that Carson is as good as he is. He's done a masterful job teaching Carson and I think he has a very good offensive mind and he knows what this offense can and cannot do. Besides, if we don't promote him, we're going to lose him.

Wow, Buckeye. We must be connected mentally. I was also hoping for Chris Gamble in 2004. I was a little frustrated with us trading down, but we were finally there at #26. I remember Tagliabue at the podium and when he said "Chris" my hands went up and I was about to yell "yes." Then he followed up with "Perry" which knocked the wind out of me.
I am also a fan of canning Brat and plugging Zampese in as our OC. He's on a lot of teams' lists as a potential OC. We almost lost him to Carolina, but luckily they went another direction. We need to keep him in Cincy and give him his overdue promotion.
