There are some rumblings that Gholston might declare for the NFL draft. I heard that the projection is first round, but perhaps he could slide to second (don't count on it though).
He had 3 sacks againt Michigan, inlcuding one where he made Jake Long look like a Freshman.
So, I ask, would you want him, and if so, where would you take him?

I do not think he will go any earlier than late second round he only has one move

I'd take him anywhere in the late first to second round. He was a beast and made Jake Long look like a statue on a couple of plays. He was beating a guy who is projected to be a first round offensive line lock.
I loved his ability to hit multiple gaps on successive plays. Michigan had no idea where he was going to be coming from. He moved Way, Way up my draft board.
If we end up with 6 or 7 wins this year, and hence pick after the mid point of the first round, I'd grab in in a NY minute.

He is beautiful, and has many concubines. The Bengals must take him.

i see his stock ending up being around what lamaar woodleys was last year, everything had woodley as a first round pick early on in the draft talks, but then he eventually slipped to the early to mid 2nd round. I'd be all for takin gholston in the 2nd tho.

Gholston is like Quinn Pitcock. There was alot of OSU fans calling for the bengals to draft him in the first round and then there was some people who had sense who said not to. Alot of people even had him as a first round prospect i can even remember him being a top 15 at one time. He ended up getting drafted in the late third round and was a great pick for the third round. I say the same thing applies to Gholston.

Quinn Pitcock was not a first rounder. However if he were there in the 4th round, I would've been all for grabbing him. Pitcock alongside of Peko would've been a nasty combo.

You know, one of the knocks on Pittcock was that he didn't always play full-throttle. I confess that I got enamored with Gholston after watching him play one monstrous game against a bitter rival.
Perhaps I should calm down, review his stats for the season, wait for some combine times, and catch my breath.
Man, that was a great game, though.

Gholston never disappears in big games. I know he's got at least 11 sacks this season. He's quick and powerful, he's a playmaker.

About this time last year probably a little earlier in the year he was considered a first round pick but when the draft came around he was a second round pick and ended up going in the third.

That's what some said, but as much as I like Quinn, he wasn't a first round talent. He could start for a team, but he's not a stand alone DT. He needed to be in a 4-3 scheme to flourish.
Gholston however, is different, he reminds me A LOT of Will Smith, only faster.

Buckeye, I'm glad you're so high on the guy because he's exactly the kind of disruptive force I was hoping we could find for when Justin goes to greener pastures.
Now the real test. If both he and Little Animal are available, which one would you take?

The Little Animal there is no question about that one. Gholston will never be a top 15.

It's really tough, but as I'd go Laurinaitis. As I've said, DL is deep this year, someone is bound to slip and go further down the board. We need a disruptive Linebacker who we can expect to be on our team every play. He has no injury problems nor character flaws, he'll be here for a long time and on the field he is the best LB in the country.
Besides, we might actually need to draft more than one LB, I'm looking toward Laurinaitis and Lehman if he's there.

Gholston had a nice game and i will give him credit he probably moved himself up into the second round and secured the fact that he will declare. The sack against Jake Long was just luck though. Squirrels fall out of trees sometimes to.

Id have to say....if we could pick up Little animal in first....i think we could trade downa few spots and pick up another 3 or second round pick, just a nice though.....pick little animal up, then in second Vernon in second....and Leman in third...and with 2 second round picks id pick up Okam if he slides...and three thirds, that would be nice...id say two defensive guys and an TE or WR....
Ahh, all the thoughts....if only it could happen! HAHA:tiger:

It wasn't luck, he juked Long. I mean he made him look like a pop warner tackle. I watched that play, not only did he run around him, but then he ran him over.

that was apparently the 1st sack allowed all season by Long. Thats saying something about Vernon cause if there is anybody on this years Michigan team that is worth anything its Jake Long.

Vernon Gholston reminds me a lot of Geathers. He is a great pass rusher and he drops back into coverage at times.
I'll all for drafting him if we draft in the middle of the pack. I say then we have the OLB's to get us set up for the 3-4. Put Brooks at MLB, get us another DE later on day 1 and we have totally revamped our D.

i love watching this kid. It seemed to me that during the OSU/ Michigan game that dude owned almost every one on Michigans O-line. They couldnt contain him.

Don't feel bad. Even the experts do it. I watched Jarvis Moss play at Florida for a couple of years and no one considered him a first round talent. Before last year's National Championship game he had 5 sacks in 13 dames. Then he got two against OSU, and suddenly became the second coming of Jevon Kearse.
Gholston is a much better player than Moss was.

If he is there in the second rd we should take him.
I don't think he is a 1st rd pick right now.
All of this depending on his combine numbers also.
If some thing shows up there then he may drop.
I don't see it happening, but would love to see him in stripes as our second rd pick.

I think he'd be a good mid 1st round pick, where we might actually be picking again this year.....he'd be a nice addition to the bengals!
