Alot of USC players are on that list. I assume USC is gonna be a tough team to beat in 2007, more so than usual.

I am one of the OSU bashers on this site, but with that said i would love for us to get Laurinaitis next year.....

It looks to be stacked on the Dline, we should be able to get a good one at 32.
Also Keith Rivers is a beast and I guarantee he'll turn out to be a freak athlete.

There's an actual mock draft.. I'm sure the players don't mean much at this point because plenty will change before then, just thought it was nice to see we were picking 29th. Proof that at least one writer thinks we'll have a great season.

Dan Connor or James Laurinitis I would love to have either or BOTH on our team, or even Cason!

I dont know Dan Connor...but I watch alot of Big 10 ball (regional coverage) so i've seen alot of Laurinitis. If he continues to play as well as i've seen so far I doubt he'll fall to 32 [:D]
Thats right i'm expecting a big year this year for the Bengals.

Another thing that will be interesting come 2008 will be the returning of some key players, as well as some of the compensatory picks we will get. We will probably get another third as well as sixth/seventh, if not more. Plus I see us as possibly getting back a fully healthy Pollack, and possibly healthy Chris Perry.
It would be nice if we had enought inactive roster spots to let Thurman, Pollack, and Perry just practice a year, get fully healthy, and come back in 08 hungry for action.

I think we are good at CB for quite some time, but I would Love to see Laurinaitis the most then Conner then Keith Rivers. Always looking for another LB. Would love to see Lawrence Jackson but I truly hope we dont get him as the premeir pass rusher normally goes in the top 5, and I hope we are picking at 32.

I have not checked out the links yet so I dont know if he is mentioned or not, but Malcolm Jenkins is the best CB in college right now and has been the best corner in the Big Ten since his freshman year. People dont hear about him because teams flat out dont throw his way, ever. Its too bad we took a CB in the 1st the last 2 years and wont be needing another one for a long time.

I double checked...didnt remember seeing the name...he's not on the list. I'm sure this list will change about 1 zillion times up till the next draft.

I would be surprised to see Laurinitis come out early. Considering who his father is, I'm not convinced they need the money. He might pull an AJ Hawk and stay for his senior year.
I'm also intrigued that they didn't list Alex Boone or Kirk Barton on that list.
At 6'8 325, Boone is a BEAST.
And I believe it was Barton that had filed his papers with the NFL to see where he would go with Ginn, Pittman and Gonzo. He was the only one who decided to come back. He was projected to be an elite NFL prospect (possible first rounder) then, but came back. He should be right up there with Long. He's 6'7 325.

The big issue with Boone and how he projects to the NFL, is he has issues handling speed rushers coming off the edge. He doesnt explode out of his stance with enough consistentcy to handle people off the edge. He also has lapses some times where he will release his man to the guard, but the guard is picking up a blitz and Boone's man runs free to the QB while Boone is floating on the line not engaged with anyone. The best example of this is the OSU-PSU game in 2005 when he released Tamba Ali(1st rounder that year) to the TE and didnt chip on either the DT or Ali. I know that happened in 2005, but it happens consistently, every game. That was just the most significant one I can remember because it cost OSU the game.

Freesafety what are your thoughts on us drafting Leon Hall. We had several conversations about it predraft and you had mixed feelings I remember. His 40 time at the combine had you second guessing alot of your prior beliefs. Not trying to hijack the thread but i'm just wondering what your post-draft thoughts are? I know your a big OSU fan so try to be as impartial as possible.

True, but we have a tremendous OL staff, I'm sure they'll snap him in shape, before the draft. I think he'll get looked at on day one, maybe not first round, but unless he completely screws up, I see him going in the 2nd or 3rd.
Besides, the combine means a lot these days. If he does well there, he could jump pretty high.

Next year in the draft we need a good DL or Connor at LB.

This is all speculation man.. By the end of next year manyunderclassmen who have overachieved in their Jr year will be enteringthe draft.. and the scales turn upside down.. It happens every year.. Ithink we should put this talk aside for 10 more months..

One person I would love to see a Bengal, if and only if we cant resign Justin Smith, is Vernon Gholston. He has a tremendous character, and for people who have never seen him, he is an absolute monster. He is the best DE coming out of the Big Ten for the last 5 years. And thats saying alot, because look at who has come out recently, Anthony Spencer and Lamar Wootley this year, Tamba Ali last year, and Will Smith 3 years ago I believe. All of them but Wootley were 1st rounders and thats just off the top of my head so please excuse me if I forgot anyone. But he wont be there between 19 and 24 which is where I predict we will be picking, most likely 24.

I think the drafting of Hall was the best move that we could have made. We had a hole to fill in our secondary and Hall was the best CB on the board. However, the questions I had on Hall before the draft were based on his speed, especially what I saw him do against Ball St, OSU, and especially USC. He looked easily outmatched against both Steve Smith and Dwayne Jarrett. With that said he ran very well at the combine and if you go back and watch the film from the ND game, he shut down two very good WR's. I think towards the end of the season he wore down a bit, either from fatigue or wear and tear. Trust me, the lumps you take during the season can wear on you, especially if you're a physical DB, like Hall. Will the same thing happen when he has to play 6 games a year in the most physical division in football, the AFC North.
edit
I would also like to add that it is true I am a huge OSU fan, but I am also a huge football fan in general. To me football is a passion, not just a past time, and I watch every game I can. For two reasons, one being so I can pick up on every tidbit of information I can to help me progress in my pursuit of my football oppurtunities, and two, because I love the stategy behind football, it's much more than just lining up being faster or more physical.

My problem with this draft is Brian Brohm. People automatically put QB's at the top, but Brohm is not worth a 1st pick. He has to really show me something his last year in order for this to ride. I think Chad Henne is better than Brohm.

Agree Gholston would be a great pick but probley won't be there for us and i look for him to have a great year at OSU.

Next years draft could be excellent. If Smith chooses not to resign but has a bang up season we could re-franchise him and trade him for a 1st or 2nd. Assuming we grab a 2nd then as of now our draft could look like this. Everything depends on this season of course:
1. LB/DE- both positions should be loaded in the 08 draft
2a. TE- TE is deep and we should be able to find one that can stretch the field. (USC's Fred Davis could tear it up this year and move himself into the late 1st or early 2nd)
2b. DT/DE/LB- Typically DT is not stacked in the 2nd, but there are always some good ones that fall. DE if we get our LB in the 1st or vica versa.
3a. PR- Get the best available PR, we may actually be able to draft for luxury next year, I know it would be nuts. (Hopefully we exercise this pick in the supp and nab Paul Oliver)
3b. RT- Find Willie's eventual replacement, although I think we already have that in Stacey.
4, 5, 6, 7 BPA- Once again LUXURY: wouldnt be amazing!!!

I want us to look at DT/DE first to reload the only aging group on defense. Then look at WR/TE to add youthful weapons and depth to the offense.
All of these positions are loaded next year. Next years talent should really match up well with our needs.

You get points for you posts. It just seems like when you post it's more about quantity than quality. It doesn't seem like you're adding much to the discussions, just posting one or two words for the sake of posting. Just sent up a red flag is all.

We won't need a MLB (hopefully), but Jasper brinkley from South Carolina is a beast. He is huge (250-260) and plays sideline to sideline. Finished 7th in the nation in solo tackles last year.
Also Early Doucet the WR from LSU is a great player. Chad an TJ will be 30 this year, so WR may be high on our list of needs next year.
