before i make a post about the pens i was wondering if anyone here even likes hockey. i think its such a fantastic sport, and i wonder why more dont like it. its incredibly physical, takes so much skill, and is really a beautiful game.
how about this, for those of you that hate it, why do you? and if lots of people like it, lets start talking about it. pens are on a roll!

I used to be undecided about hockey. Probably because it isn't hyped at all down here. Knew that it was a great sport, but never really got into watching on tv. Then I went to a game. Seeing it live was freaking AMAZING!!! Now I love it!
Go Lightning!!!

There used to be a thread in here about hockey I remember posting in not too long ago.
Mods have been cleaning up the place , so it probaly got deleted.
I keep up with the Hurricanes. Not like I would like to with no TV. And tickets are rediculous , upwards of $100.
They have been doing pretty good so far this season.
Lost a tough one to DET on Sunday.
They play Ottawa on Wed. That should be a good one.
Its early though. Ottawa and NJ are going to be tough in the East.
DET will be there in the West as usual. 21-6 is a solid record. They are looking good.
I wanted to have them in my sig , but I already have enough. Maybe I'll ask Kavran if he could add to it. I'll wait and see if the Reds trade Hamilton:nervous: first since he is in my sig.

I started taking an interest in hockey in the mid to late 90's. Thought it was a pretty cool sport...fast action & very physical. I started going to some minor league games & then hit some games in the Blue Jackets 1st year. I then fell in love with hockey & continued to feel that way until that lockout.
For whatever reason, once that lockout hit I lost total interest. Even last season my interest wasnt near what it used to be. Didnt help much that the Blue Jackets were still stinking it up too LOL. The Devils were my first fav team even before the Jackets came about but they werent themselves last year either.
This year is better for me though. It's taking some time but my interest is getting back to where it used to be. It also helps that the Jackets are off to their best start.
Viva NHL.

I have watched more and more hockey as I grew up. Watched Gretzsky and Lemeuix ( I'm sure I spelled both wrong, I get a pass on hockey names right) as a youngster and then watched the sport fall by the wayside during the strike. I was very suprised to see them fail to come to an agreement and lose a whole season. Even though I didn't consider myself a fan, I did feel for the people out there who it did effect.
Sidney Crosby....WoW....how can you not be a fan of that kid. He's like David Blane in skates. A magician...... He is the human highlight reel of hockey.
Even though it's in my DNA to dislike anything that's yellow(..gold,whatever)&black, I find it almost impossible to not root for Crosby.
So I guess I consider myself a fan in progress, since I don't have a team here in Cincinnati other than a minor league club. (The Cyclone's) Its not something I get to watch very often,Sadly.

Yea but the Jackets are just 1.5 hrs up I-71. I know, I know, there hasnt been much to root for so far. Now that we have a real coach & a new GM, hopefully things are gonna be different. It's still very early but they are in the thick of it this year & have played some exciting games so far. Usually they are already eliminated from the playoffs by now.
You should make a trip up & check em out!

I've been to a few Jackets games at Nationwide... just because I can and it's there... cool arena,.. but it really lacks heart. I dunno.. I guess it's because they're still pretty new and this town is owned by the Buckeyes. I'm sure they'll pick up a bigger fan base soon enough.
I've always wondered why they aren't in the Eastern Conference... I mean heck they could be in Pittsburghs division. I really wanted to catch a Guins game here in the C-Bus, but it doesn't look like that will happen any time soon. :(

I'm still new to the hockey scene, although I do try to follow the Jackets, I also tend to root for the Calgary Flames.

Considering the product that's been put on the ice since they started in 2000, the fan support has been pretty good. I cant remember the exact stats off the top of my head but a few yrs ago they had a nice sellout streak & ranked in the top half of the NHL in attendance. This all from a team that hasnt even come close to sniffing the playoffs. However, the last couple years fans are becoming impatient & getting tired of the same old promises from the old GM with absolutely no signs of improvement. With Hitchcock behind the bench & the new GM, things seem a little brighter. Once the CBJ can consistently compete & become a playoff team, they will have no shortage of rabid fan support.
Yea, I think I would like them in the Eastern conference better myself. They could build a nice little rivalry with the Pens. Two young teams with bright young stars (Pens are a little brighter of course) & relatively close proximity. Now they have that rivalry thing though with the hated Red Wings. Or at least in the CBJ's eyes it's a rivalry. LOL. I also hate it when they go on west coast road trips & you cant catch many of their games or get any final scores before bed.
Oh yea, if you didnt hear, the NHL is going to change the make up of their schedule as well. I cant remember when this goes into effect but they are going to lessen the large number of games with divisional teams & spread em out more around the entire NHL so people get to see more teams/players. So sometime soon there will be a better chance of the Pens coming to town.

Well, as much as I hate to admit, the Pens are looking like they did 10 years ago. I can't say we'll dominate Pitt again this year. And I haven't seen the Rangers doing this good since '94. I think it's safe to say our powerhouse NHL teams are back. I cannot wait to play the Pens in the playoffs.

a little bit yes bubbs...but I'll tell you I hate the leafs more than anything else in the world...and its mostly because of their arrogant, ignorant fan base.
I was influenced at a very young age by my cousin and thats how I became a hab fan.
i'm almost at the point where i'm not sure if I watch hockey to see the habs win or the leafs to lose.
I really truly hate them.

its a short form of Les Habitants...french word for inhabitents. Got this from Yahoo Answers...they explain it in a bit more detail than I ever could.
Habs is an abbreviation of "les habitants," the informal name given to the original settlers of New France, dating back to the 17th Century. So it's a natural fit for the The Montreal Canadiens, established in 1909 and marketed as a French-Canadian hockey team.
Having said that, the nickname might have been the result of an error. According to NHL.com, the first man to refer to the team as "the Habs" was Tex Rickard, owner of Madison Square Garden, in 1924. Rickard apparently told a reporter that the "H" on the Canadiens' sweaters was for "Habitants." Not true. The distinctive C-wrapped-around-H logo stands for "Club de Hockey Canadien
